[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Afghanistan appoints Younis Khan as mentor for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

With Australia so weakened and England so badly out of form, this is the best opportunity for Afghanistan to book a semi-final berth. They should take confidence from the fact that they have managed wins against both teams in their last encounters in ICC tournaments. Even against South Africa, they have a bilateral series win. This group is going to be interesting.
I also think the same. A little bit of purchase off the surface and nobody should get surprised if they take down 2 or even 3 teams in their group stage

Hashmatullah Shahidi, in the pre-match press conference ahead of Afghanistan's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against England:

"Younis Khan is a legend, and we are trying to benefit from his experience. When he speaks, everyone listens."

A real slap in the face to daytrader and Major who tried to hijack this thread with nonsense such as "he carries a knife".

The decision from ACB to appoint Younis Khan has turned out to be a masterstroke.
When the greatest PK captain of all time wants to coach Afghanistan instead of your own team 😖😖.

I can just imagine YK sitting in the Pakistani dug out face palming every time he talks about fitness and someone is eating cake in the corner.

Ome of the predictions I made a few months ago was that YK would help Afghanistan. Afghanistan in this tournament seems to be fitter, better fielders and unlike many times in the past there they've bottled it from won positions such as aus and Pakistan encounters, it didn't happen against England.

You can clearly see YK's mentality, fitness standards and sharp cricketing acumen being integrated into their mindset. Imagine if Misbah coached this team.

Zadran and gurbaz would be batting at no 6 and 7 🤣🤣 while seqiullah would be their t20 opener.

Superb post. Younis Khan has elite mentality, fitness and cricketing acument.

Whereas Misbah's most well known remnant of his era is actually cake cutting. Just imagine how a fraud like this has fans. I think he appeals to shy, timid and weak men.

Since misbah came back as a coach, the entire Pakistani team grew lethargic and you could see it in their performance vs Zimbabwe.

they improved in 2021 due to pcb hiring foreign coaches on a quick term tournament only basis however it was short lived as it was for one tournament only. They weren't interested in coaching Pakistan long term.

Afterwards ramiz came and just let babar do anything he wanted and babar's mentality at this point was the exact same as Misbah's.

More then skill set, it's laziness. Watching Pakistan feels like watching a bunch of Legend league players with overweight tummies playing against a prime classic aussie team.

Actually even that's a compliment since aussie, wi, pak, sa and Indian chachu 11 from the legends league would dominate this team. Brett Lee has lost his speed but can still bowl with accuracy and would still get dismissals along the 3rd offstump line considering bobby can't use his backfoot and rizwan can't play on the offside by default.

Anyone think Afghanistan can win this CT. I would so dearly love to see it happen. It will be a bigger rags to riches story than SL winning 96 WC. The entire dynamics of cricket world will change.

I do. It might be the wake up call that Pakistan cricket needs. We need a hard reset.

Naa, the only way they can is if they tweek the bowling line up. Azmat and GUlbadin both cannot be played.

I am interested in seeing that new pacer they found, Naveed Zadran.

Afg almost bottled the game against Eng. Afg is not a high scoring team, so in death overs they need someone to assistn Fazalhaq.

Younis Khan is such a good coach that he was able to help Afghanistan reach the semi final of the last work before he had even joined the set up.

He’s a legend of the game who has plenty to offer in the coaching and mentorship space, there are some who would much rather worship a fake personality who achieved little :misbah3 and coasted on the hard work of others, just because the one with a chip on his shoulder isn’t their cup of tea; what does that matter when you go to bed in silk sheets and danced with true greatness. It’s Pakistan’s and the fans loss that they never appreciated Khan enough, their huge ego’s were much better suited to pandering to mediocrity :misbah

It’s good man, for once he can thrive in an environment which appreciates him and he can offer guidance to humble people who are willing to take on board what he has to say without feeling like a small insecure female pet :rizwan

From Pakistan YK is the undisputed greatest of all time but it's unfortunate that pcb and Pakistani cricketers pretends to be vince mcmahon and continue to make garbage decisons.

Removing YK from captaincy is the equivalent of making brock and roman beat taker at wrestlemania, Everyone's mama was against such a decison including roman and brock themselves.

I now ponder a world where oath gate never happened. This man is the sole reason why Misbah fans can atleast use the rubbish excuse of Misbah being a goat captain.

What a theif, rubbish odi and t20 captain and took all the credit from the goat who actually made him no 1 and made Pakistan test team famous.

So a century from Zadran shows capabilities of YK as a coach?

These comments were for Jonathan Trott :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I know the tournament has been a huge disappointment for Pakistani fans but let's not be so desperate to acknowledge everything as a Pakistani achievements
He literally said the words younis Khan? And even said mentioned him by name on live TV? I think the only one who's desperate is you

oh bhai mere don't take everything so personally. These comments were from mid innings and he named Jonathan Trott.

Exact comment: [Advice from Afg mentor Younis Khan?] He is sharing his experience with us. I am trying to talk to him a lot during the nets sessions, and I have chatted to Jonathan Trott in the last two sessions. I just asked him, 'What do you see, anything different?' He said, 'You're playing very well. Once you cross 40, you'll play a big innings.' I brought that into my game. Before the game, I had a chat with Rashid. Whenever I chat with Rashid, I get a score."

He said it to YK as well. Look at the tweet? And this is not just a PP tweet. It's all over twitter.

He didn't name YK though. He was asked about YK and responded with names of Jonathon Trott and Rashid.

Even in the post match when he went to get the MoM award he was asked about adapting to conditions - he could've responded along the lines that YK as a mentor gave us input into them - instead he spoke about his past experiences in Pak

Younis khan has been with this team for few days only. I don't think anybody can change the team in few days.

Yep, younis must have given them some tips that they found useful for playing on these pitches but it is not just younis khan who turned the whole team around.

World cup 2023, and similarly indians fan went gaga over ajay jadeja. Than the australia match happened and all became quite..

Now younis fans want to bill Younis as a sane coach so.

The guy who who took a knife on the Zimbabwean coach

All you do is find an opportunity to diss our legends. Not only have hou done this with Younis Khan, you also did this with Wasim Akram and more recently with Shoaib Akhtar.

And all this coming from someone who is a member of the Misbah/Babar/Rizwan fan club. It’s funny how you have a fetish for mediocrity but when it comes to our legends you want to take shots at them.

I think I know why. The likes of Misbah and etc appeal to shy, weak and timid men. I guess the shoe really does fit.

Salman Butt, while speaking on a show:

"We have played together as colleagues, and he [Younis Khan] has also been our captain. I think he is a very positive influence on the team, and he is someone who gets things done."

"He wants everything to be in its place and on time. Once he makes a decision, he does not change it easily. He will go ahead with the plan, even if he has to do it by himself. That’s the kind of character he is. I think he is very disciplined and will definitely bring a lot of good things to Afghanistan."

Sure bro if that's what you want to think. Reality is, I ignored the post until you name dropped me and major on your post that got deleted. But i knew you were gonna do that cause you just want validation of your opinion even if the facts are different

Can you tell me why you are always in awe of underperforming beta males?

Also, why do you have so much contempt for our legends? - which include YK, Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar.

Man you're in your own world - Alphas vs betas. Like that's what it's really about.

I haven't downplayed any legends cricketing achievements. Just their cringe and hypocritical personalites

If they are performing, I don't care if they're alpha or beta. The issue is you have an irrational fear when it comes to alpha males - something you've obviously picked up from Misbah.

The truth is you disrespect the likes of Wasim Akram, Younis Khan and Shoaib Akhtar but your energy is different when it comes to serial underperformers like Babar, Rizwan and Misbah.
