What's new

Name your five players to watch out for in the 2019 World Cup

1). Shaheen Shah Afridi

2). Johnny Bairstow

3). Kuldeep Yadav

4). Jasprit Bumrah

5). Ross Taylor

1. Babar Azam
2. Virat Kohli
3. Joss Buttler
4. Joe Root
5. Adil Rashid

I think there are many more but these are just off the top of my head. Plus there's some healthy competition there, especially Babar v Kohli v Root...the young upstart v the old guard v the man in the shadows

Shaheen Afridi
Butler
Hetmyer
Rashid Khan
Kuldeep Yadav

Keeping in mind, I'm not choosing obvious people like Kohli.

1. Virat Kohli
2. Shaheen Shah Afridi
3. Shimron Hetmyer
4. Kuldeep Yadav
5. Jos Butler

Hetmyer
Babar
Imam
Jofra
K Yadev
Shaheen
Shah

these are new rising stars in world cricket, would like to see how they perform at the biggest stage.

Players like Bumbra, Smith, Kohli, are already at the next level, they just have to perform at their expected level.

Pretty weird that no one is talking about hasan ali being good even though he has the same amount of wickets as bumrah in the same amount of matches. Just because of Hasan Ali's dip in form?

1. Dhawan
2. Shaheen afridi
3. Perera
4. K yadav
5. Rayudu (power of biryani)

Shimron Hetmyer
Babar Azam
Lockie Ferguson
Mustafizur Rahman
Shaheen Afridi

1.Kuldeep yadav
2.Virat Kohli
3.Jos butler
4.Rashid khan
5.Jasprit bumrah

Kuldeep yadav is the trump card.If a team has to chase 270 and above against kuldeep in a knockout, they will be shivering.

Assuming this means players that have slipped under the radar and will quietly have a great tournament (thus excluding the likes of Kohli and Starc):

1) Moeen Ali
2) Imam ul Haq
3) Imran Tahir
4) Tim Southee
5) Usman Khawaja

Shaheen
Babar
Buttler
Kuldeep
Hetmyer

Don't need to watch out for Kohli as we will all see anyway.

Curios to know why these specific players. I mean these are mostly underwhelming selections.

I would name six:

1- Kohli
2- Butler
3- Yadav
4- Boult
5- Starc
6- Shaheen Shah Afridi

Apart from my own team, here are 4 players I'd definitely like to watch perform in the WC-

1. Imam Ul Haq (I have regards for him for being a hard worker)

2. Babar Azam (He is one talented bloke)

3. Hassan Ali (I have been a big fan of him since the CT 2017)

4. Fakhar Zaman (I still believe he can be a very valuable member of his side in ODI cricket)

I think you also missed Asif Ali.

It's always nice watching youngsters doing well in any tournament, let alone in a World Cup. I don't care which country they represent. I'm a fan of the game, will always be. Nationalities don't matter much to me.

But honestly speaking, Hassan Ali is one guy I really, really want to see do well. I have been a massive fan of him since the CT 2017. I've defended him in this forum every time whenever he has not done well in a match or two.

And credit to some Pak posters, all it takes is for such a talented gem to have a bad match or two, they jump up on him. But back in the time of the senior players, they could have a bad couple of years, they were merely going through a bad patch. I believe he is the man who will be the best fast bowler in the world in a few years alongside Bumrah (I really wish) in the future.

Khawaja won't even be at the WC.

Finch
Warner
Smith
Marsh

That will be the top 4 for Australia.

Among the first timers

Bumrah
Kuldeep
Rashid
Mujeeb
Imam

Among the more experienced/established stars

Kohli
Rohit
Dhawan
Hafeez
Mushfiq

Not in any order

1. Rashid Khan: I'm sure during the long tournament, there will be a day/night when the conditions will be favorable to him and he'll run over a batting (hopefully not against us but that's the most plausible outcome). Superstar back home and one of the most important stars in cricket especially when it comes to expanding the appeal of the sports beyond the traditional cricketing nations.

2. Lockie Ferguson: He has had one good series against Pak in difficult conditions and then one bad against a team that has taken him on. He can crank it up and is a really exciting bowler. Would be interesting to see what can he conjure now for the premium limited overs tournament.

3. S. Afridi: Think this event is a bit too early in his cricketing development but it's difficult to know what to expect from him. Never seen him swing the ball much but in RSA he has got the ball moving in both directions and at good speed. Can he reawaken the spirit of aggresive fast bowling back in Pakistan and become the next superstar from a country deprived of a genuine fast bowler for the best part of the decade?

4. S. Smith: There's nothing more beautiful than watching a redemption story unfurl in front of your own eyes. This could be like watching a biopic and having the feeling of "I was there when this and this happened"

5. Dhoni: I know he's not an unknown and it's obvious why his country folk have been fed up of him but the man has been a colossal figure for the game and this is probably his last shot at glory. Being a Pakistani fan, it's at times difficult to like the player that he is but his cricketing genius is unparalleled. Has seen it all, and has been through it all, and now is just doing this because he still loves the game and wants the thrill that comes with it. Don't want to wish him luck because I want Pakistan to lift the trophy but if it's his swansong, I hope it ends on an okay note.

There are others too; some upstarts, some not so famous, some old established names, and a few tried and tested failures who'll manage to sneak in but these five will be definitely the players I'd be most interested to watch and follow.
