Police are responding to a "developing incident" at Sydney's Bondi Beach after reports of multiple shots being fired.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the shooting but said it was unclear if anyone had been hit.

New South Wales police said two people are in custody at Bondi Beach but added the operation is ongoing.

"We continue to urge people to avoid the area. Please obey ALL police directions. Do not cross police lines," the force said on social media.

"We are aware of an active security situation in Bondi. We urge people in the vicinity to follow information from NSW Police," a spokesperson for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

Sky News correspondent Nicole Johnston, in Sydney, said she has seen some of the graphic video that is now circulating on social media.

"It is graphic and it is shocking. You can see two men, active shooters, firing from a pedestrian bridge right at Bondi Beach," she tells Sky News.

"There's also video of injured people on the ground. They're receiving medical treatment. There is blood on the ground. So clearly that have been sort of at least a number of injured people there."

Sky News has not yet been unable to verify video circulating on social media.

Here opposition is blaming govt for neglecting the attacks on Jews since 1 year.Terorists have placed a bomb near Jewish synogogue( opposite to a public school with out any care for kids) during Easter but police were able to foil it. I have made a thread on attacks but usual suspects derailed it.

Naveed Akram is confirmed to be one of the two shooters who opened fire on a Jewish Chanukkah event shortly before 7pm on Sunday.

This is going to be a massive blow to Pakistani immigration if the reports about its national being one of the attackers are confirmed to be true.

All the time these guys spent behind fake MAGA profiles trying to promote hate speech against high net worth Indian Americans who contribute highest tax to America and yet one of their own has been found shooting people in broad daylight on Bondi Beach.
 
Pakistanis praying right now all these reports turn out to be false and they can make their entry in this thread to call out hate speech and Islamophobia from Modi bhakts. I am kinda on their side right now and hope the reports are false. I don’t want things to go bad for them honestly even though they deserve it.
 
Abhorrent attack. If the motive being reported is true, how does this advance the Palestinian cause ?

Just seen a clip of a rather large man tackling the shooter and grabbing the gun which is remarkable.

I understand for you Hindus it is a day to celebrate if Pakistanis come under the scanner.

But I feel very hollow and numb seeing this news.

It’s a horrible attack, children are roaming around public beaches . This is no worse than the thousands of attacks on innocent civilians on the beaches of Gaza for decades , which don’t even make the news now as they are so regular .

They will blame it on Hamas or supporters whatever the truth is . Could very well be a patsy .

Expect to see more of these attacks to divert media attention from israel. Netenyahu has been coming under increasing fire, and many social commentators have been predicting exactly this. I guess Australia is an easer target than the USA.

I am not sure how a person can hold the belief that the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians and collective punishment, needs to be punished through collective punishment of Jewish people in a 3rd country.

What the hell does this achieve apart from more misery and bloodshed?

Palestine will only be free via armed resistance and re conquest of their land . These incidents make no difference now . After their mass slaughter for over 2 years , this is a global war against Zionism until they no longer exist as a sick ideology . But this war in terms of violence can only take place in the occupied areas of the holy land . The talking means nothing now
 
This is sickening to say the least. How can anyone target innocent civilians.

Really hope the little ounce of humanity left in the Jewish community wakes up to realise how sickening and heartbreaking it is to see innocent people getting slaughtered daily right in their backyard
 
I hope they use bodies of these terrorist for live human testing for new drug trials.

Even the religious degree couldn't stop him from being radicalized.

Its time to address the root cause of these Islamists and how/why they are being radicalized to kill innocent people. The issue is that we don't see people go and kill in the name of religion like Christians / Hindus / Buddhism etc in such an organized way. Somehow the affinity to get radicalized is higher in some pockets. My bet is on the religious mullahs who hold the power. These madrassas should be monitored everywhere.

We may not bring back the lost lives but at-least we can prevent hardline islamists turning into terrorists and save innocent lives.

Latest update from Bondi Beach shooting

At least 11 people have been killed and 29 wounded, including two police officers, after a mass shooting at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Saturday evening, in what Australian authorities have declared a “terrorist” incident. Police said one of the suspected attackers was shot dead at the scene, while a second alleged shooter remains in critical condition. Investigators are also examining whether a third person was involved.

The shooting occurred around 6:47pm local time near the Bondi Pavilion during a Hanukkah celebration attended by more than 1,000 people. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said the attack was “designed to target Sydney’s Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah”, calling it an act of terrorism that shattered what should have been a peaceful celebration. An improvised explosive device was later found in a car linked to one of the suspects, police confirmed.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as gunmen opened fire on crowds gathered along the beachfront. Several people said they heard dozens of shots, prompting panic as families and bystanders fled, leaving behind belongings in their rush to escape. Some witnesses likened the scene to “fish in a barrel”, while others spoke of helping injured strangers amid bodies on the ground.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack as an “evil act of anti-Semitism and terrorism”, pledging that authorities would “eradicate” those responsible and ensure the safety of the Jewish community. “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian,” he said, urging calm and warning against retribution.

International condemnation followed swiftly. The United States, United Nations, European leaders and regional allies expressed shock and solidarity with Australia, while religious leaders called the shooting an unspeakable tragedy. Israeli sources confirmed that Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a member of the Chabad ultra-Orthodox group, was among the dead.

Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most famous tourist destinations, remained largely deserted hours after the attack as heavily armed police continued searches and investigations. Authorities have appealed for the public to share any relevant footage as the counterterrorism inquiry continues.

Thoughts and prayers with the families of the dearly departed, who were the victims of this abhorrent terrorist attack, an act that was very clearly targeted and antisemitic.

I hope this evil terrorist gets what’s coming to him.

It’s always someone else’s fault there’s never any willingness to accept responsibility. Osama bin Laden was found in KPK, an area where nearly 90% of the support base backs PTI, yet that reality is constantly brushed aside.

It’s about time people start owning the facts instead of deflecting.
