NCA to host national players for specialised camps

• Spin bowling camp to run from 10 till 15 June; fast bowlers will train from 16 till 21 June

• Longer spells in specially-designed sessions will help selectors list down best possible players for Sri Lanka Tests

• Camps are a step towards developing a deep and strong core and inculcating The Pakistan Way in the upcoming players

Lahore, 2 June 2023:

Thirteen spinners and 11 fast bowlers will undergo specialised men’s camps at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore this month in a bid to develop a deep and strong core ahead of an exciting and challenging season. Fourteen batters will also be involved in the two camps that will run from 10 till 15 June (for spinners) and 16 till 21 June (for fast bowlers).

The men’s national selection committee has invited players from the Pakistan men’s, Shaheens and U19 sides and they will train under the guidance of national team’s and NCA’s coaches.

These camps will help the selectors in jotting the best possible squad for Pakistan’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka in July, which will be national side’s first assignment in the third cycle of the World Test Championship.

Separate camps for spin and fast bowlers will help the bowlers to bowl longer spells in specially tailored sessions that along with enhancing their skill level will test their fitness under tough weather conditions. Similarly, the batters will get to bat for extended periods, a requisite for the upcoming tour.

Having players from across the rungs together will also help in inculcating The Pakistan Way in the upcoming players, so they are aware of the expectations of the national side as they continue their journey. This will also help the youngsters to benefit from the experience of the senior side’s players.

The players who have been granted No-Objection Certificates to participate in County cricket or other leagues will continue to feature in them. Mohammad Nawaz (rehabilitation for finger injury), Sarfaraz Ahmed (personal commitments), Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan (both are traveling for Hajj) have been exempted from the camp.

The following is the list of invited players:

Spinners – Abrar Ahmed, Ali Asfand, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Mohammad Junaid, Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir Khan, Noman Ali, Qasim Akram, Sajid Khan, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usama Mir and Zahid Mehmood

Fast bowlers - Aamir Jamal, Arshad Iqbal, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Naseem Shah and Shahnawaz Dahani

Where is Shaheen Shah Afridi?

He is one of those granted NOC for County Cricket I assume

Spoke with some of the players who have to attend and they are not too pleased about it.

Some are supposed to be playing in the UK, others are worried about the heat.

I understand Hajj is a religious duty but how can players be selected without attending this camp?

They should mover on from time and tested and failed dead woods , particularly Faheem Ashraf and Haris Sohail. I also don't have much hope from Kamran Ghulam.

Yes a camp in 115 degrees seems silly.
Pretty good list though, with Saim, huraira and qasim included.

Should do these camps in North of Pakistan - they are just camps - all it needs are nets and a small ground - not a stadium.

The specialised camp for spinners will commence at the National Cricket Academy from tomorrow, Saturday.

In this specifically designed camp, the players will undergo extensive sessions that will enhance their skills and test fitness in challenging conditions ahead of two-Test series against Sri Lanka next month.

Abid Ali and Fakhar Zaman have been included in the camp, while Usama Mir and Iftikhar Ahmed have been granted exemption from the camp. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf has also been exempted from the fast bowlers camp, which runs from 16 to 21 June.

Good list of players apart from Hussain Talat, Karman Ghulam, and Tayyab Tahir. Very please to see Arshad Iqbal selected. He should be designated as a test prospect.

One hopes that all the exempted players are doing better things with their time away from this camp.

Fast bowlers? Shahid afridi was faster than Mir Hamza. Aamir Jamal is our test quality bowler for next Wtc?? Seriously???
Salman Agha is a nothing player, don't know why Babar is so fond of him.. He'll take him to W. Cup as well.. Such a dumb captain we have

I was speaking recently to a Pakistani pacer and he said these 4 or 5 day camps are a waste of time.

The bowlers get very little out of them and they are basically for the coaches to show that they are actually doing something.
