"Needed a guy who can hit sixes at #6/7, Asif Ali is a good addition for our team" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

Sarfaraz Ahmed at the post match presentation after Pakistan beat Australia:

"Thanks to Almighty Allah"

"The way we played today, lots of credit to Fakhar Zaman. The pitch wasn't easy to bat on but the way he batted, credit goes to him"

"Today's pitch was very difficult, if I see it as a captain, it's not easy to play when you pitch the ball up. Credit goes to the bowlers, and Fakhar Zaman, Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali did the job for us"

"We needed a guy who can play and hit sixes at #6/7, Asif Ali is a good addition for our team"

"We gave Shaheen an opportunity as we're taking him for the last 3 series, we gave him a chance and his bowling was excellent. All the bowlers did a great job for us today"

I hope Asif isn't being pigeonholed as a late order hitter. I would like to promote him to 3 in T20s so we can capitalise on the Powerplay overs.

Most teams now don't save their cleanest and biggest hitters for the lower order in T20s.

Can be experimented in T 20s but not in ODIs as we need someone in the lower middle order to do that finishing job.

I think Asif Ali's inclusion into the T20 has been a breath of fresh air. As finally we have someone who is a consistent hitter at No.6. With Shadab and Faheem to follow suit in the line-up. We have solid lower order batting setup

Credit to Mickey for sticking with him. He struggled in his first few games and looked an inconsistent slogger but Mickey kept his faith in him.

Other Pak coaches would have dropped such a hit and miss player after a serie.

The batting position of Talat and Sarfraz are a matter of debate. Both grafters are at 3 and 4.That will kill momentum against top opposition.

With the addition of Babar (more than likely in the opening spot) that would make 3 of them with similar batting style coming in one after they other.

Pakistan dearly needs another opener like Sharjeel Khan.

Asif Ali is better than I thought. I expected him to be just a hack but he seems to be international standard. I think his current role in the T20 team is fine

Looks like Misbah's backing since first edition of PSL has finally helped us develop a power hitter we were sorely lacking, plus he is pretty good against pace. Seems to have a lot of time playing his shots. Not taking anything away from the brilliant coaching staff at Islamabad United as well that helped him improve massively in the 3 years. Hopefully he can be what Miller has been doing for SA.

Yes, he is of international standard and hopefully will serve Pakistan for next 8-10 years. He came to international cricket on back of a good experience of FC cricket, that certainly helped.

Miller has been doing absolutely nothing for SA apart from a few cameos here and there. For the sake of Pakistan i hope Asif ali can actually score some runs when it matters unlike miller.

He's 30+ already, probably only an option till the 2020 T20 WC

And you need two guys up the order who can match the opposition as you can't have a make shift opener for the sake of playing a guy who does not belong there in Haris Sohail and keep a guy who should have been tried out in Farhan.

we need some solid hitter in the middle order as well all other countries have one or two but we have all tuk tuks in the middle. name any of them (malik, hafeez, haris, babar even sarfraz) all of them have the same technicique which is not suited to intl cricket

Players like Asif are what you need in today's modern game, I do think he can play a similar role to NZ's Colin Munro except Asif's average isn't something we should talk about. He's improved a lot in the domestic ODI cup but we need to see him more of a player that can try inflate our score as high and quickly as possible given that we are historically a shaky batting side; in other words his batting average is nothing to be ashamed at, he's a genuine clean hitter of the ball.

With more games his batting will improve , he will learn how to play ball on merit.

ya asif ali is a power hitter of cricket ball and his batting order number is fine but he can use early when require run rate will be high

Sometimes you need those kind of blockers, who just make sure good bowler can get his overs without giving a wicket to him and expose other batsman for him.

He's been good down the order and if he does well in the ODI's it will be even better.Hope we uncover more big-hitters like him
