Who will go down as a better test bowler: Philander or Wagner?

Has Wagner done well in Asia? Philander stats are misleading in Asia, he was treated as stock bowler in subcontinent.

Post some stats.

Philander is better overall, more skillful, better stats. Only in Aus Wagner is comfortably better than Vernon.

Good Lord, Philander is underrated.
He was twice the bowler Wagner is (metaphorically not mathematically )
and that is not an attack on wagner, Wagner himself is a great bowler.
Philander was great everywhere except Asia.

Hard to compare as they do different roles. Wagner does all his work with the old ball as a 3rd seamer and is more effective as the test goes on. Big Vern will take you out early in the test with a newer ball.

Different sort of bowlers with different roles.

Wagner is the third pacer while Philander was the first.
Wagner probably hasn't opened the bowling attack in his international career till now while Philander I believe never came in as first or second change bowler in Tests(his t20is in 07 is a different story)

Philander is like Matthew Hoggard of 2005 Ashes while Wagner is Simon Jones. Weird analogy though.

It's a bit like comparing a swashbuckling #6 batsman like Doug Walters & a stodgy but effective opening bat like Mark Taylor...

Or David Gower & Ken Barrington... Most people would tell you Gower was the better bat but Barrington's stats put up a strong show.

I don't think its a poor comparison even though they play different roles.

After Steyn, Anderson, Johnson and Cummings, these two are probably the two best quicks of the 2010's.

They both deserve a lot of respect.
