Recently Sami Aslam in his interview to PakPassion alleged nepotism to be responsible for his derailed career. I have anendotedly heard of many such occurrences. Can anyone with deep knowledge of history of Pakistan cricket list some names that
1. Made careers due to nepotism
2. Lost their potentially promising careers due to nepotism?
From my experience of playing under 16, under 19, and Quaid-e-Azam trophy/first class cricket in Pakistan (I also represented Pakistan, against Sri Lanka in an all Pakistan college 11 vs all Sri Lanka college 11 game) , there is A LOT of corruption in the regional and domestic level cricket. And I am telling you, there is A LOT of it!
Many young promising and talented cricketers (mostly 14 and under) are chased away by pedophiles in the domestic/regional cricket atmosphere, and others don't stand a chance against nepotism and corruption.
Many talented kids who maneuver through these hurdles get their careers destroyed by internal politics and groupings, (that Rashid Lateef calls "Qabeela", it's 100% true).
And on the other hand, many incompetent and less talented sifaarshies and burgers get a head start and are pushed to be among the pool of Pakistan probables.
Domestic scorecards are rigged by making the batsman of choice play extremely weak bowlers. Sometimes even third class bowlers are paid to provide halwa balls, so that the burger can play a few strokes and make his record look good.
During my playing days, if you had played 6 first class games, you would qualify to apply for a visa to play some Jr. county in England.
And many guys would use their connections or pay to buy a spot in the first class regional team to get 6 games under their belt, and then try to leave Pakistan for greener pastures in England, thus butchering the spot of a talent player on merit.
Many of the regional cricket admins of PCB are some of the most dishonest and corrupt people you may come across. They act as an all knowing big time philosophers riding on a self righteousness horse.
And then is also a problem of recreational drugs. Many youngsters, who mostly do not have any education and come from poor backgrounds, are slaughtered by this laanut when they join the ranks of domestic cricket team environment. The off the field activities of many youngsters are not ideal.
We do not, and I repeat, we do NOT have a healthy environment in our domestic level cricket atmosphere. We repeatedly fail to groom talented youngsters. There is a lot of corruption and injustice in domestic cricket.
