Netflix Originals, TV shows and Movies

Anyone into mockumentaries? I suggest watch Trailer Park Boys, funniest most original comedy show I have ever seen.

I especially loved the chemistry between two leads, the scene at the convent where they meet each other for the first time was epic to say the least. They were like a dark and disturbing version of Ross and Rachel lol.

I just finished it. Really enjoyed it, was pleasantly surprised with the interesting and unique ensemble of supporting characters too.

I know. Canada has some of the funniest shows. Schitts Creek is great too and on Netflix.

Schitts creek is good but somehow I couldn’t get into it, Corner Gas though is amazing for
me and Kim’s is pretty decent.

And yeah Canadian humor is remarkable you should watch 22 minutes if you have some idea about Canada and its news.

It was absolutely hilarious, I so love refreshing low budget indie flicks like that.

They have made it into a series in 2019 too. The funniest comedy show of 2019 in my opinion. Also watch the hilarious Wellington Paranormal by the same team (Waititi/Clement) where two police officers are asked by the chief to explore top secret paranormal cases, only they do it in a very polite, by the book and aloof NZ way.

I Lost My Body

Beautifully crafted. Surreal & touching. Handsdown the best animated movie of the year.

Watched 3 seasons of Narcos,I have no words to describe, what a masterpiece.

Dracula is one weird show. Claes Bang fits the character like a glove and the first episode is an almost perfect reimagining of the classic story with some great humor and one liners thrown in. The second one is more of a Sherlock episode disguised as Dracula but is still great. The third episode is like a Twilight version of Dracula and completely ruins everything. Wish they had ended it after the second episode and I would have been waiting desperately for another season.

A very accurate summary.

Jamtara, well made series about a bunch of rural village boys doing telephone credit card scams in India, worth a binge watch, acting is top notch from a very unknown cast.

Started watching Killer Inside - The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.

Through interviews with friends, players and insiders, this docuseries examines how Aaron Hernandez went from an NFL star to a convicted killer.

Very interesting.

I thought it’s fangtastic. There have been too many versions telling the classic story. I loved how they brought Dracula in to the modern era. Looking forward to another season.

Watched Sex Education Season 2

It was comedy in the beginning but it turns out to be dealing those problems regarding sex life and daily life, you will find some parts cringey.
Overall it's a good show.

Fair enough. However, I didn't really mind that they brought Dracula into the present. In fact the first half of the episode was rather amusing with Dracula trying to adjust to the modern world. It is just that they almost turned him into a bad stereotype of a millennial and it became more and more like a young adult vampire novel towards the end. Plus the ending for me was disappointing (won't discuss because of spoilers but it was not very well thought out in opinion).

Never been on Netflix, but is there any way of watching a show that is currently airing weekly in the US right now, but won't be shown in the UK until July.

I'm talking about Manifest season 2

Any way of watching it in the UK now?

First They Killed My Father
pretty powerful viewing, the first half at least

Just google it, there are many streaming sites available.

Classical Dracula is so, so good that any attempt to modernize it doesn’t seem to work.

Episode 1 was fantastic, episode 2 was bearable but episode 3 was dreadful.

Finished watching Hip Hop evolution series 4. Quality viewing.

Quality viewing I can't recommend it enough especially for hip-hop heads and it has an element of NYC's urban history which for me is really facsinating because my father keep on telling me that back in the day NYC was a real s#*t show didn't fully believe him until I watched this documentary but it's really cool how out of poverty young guys created one of the most dominant form of music on Earth.

Jamtara, well made series about a bunch of rural village boys doing telephone credit card scams in India, worth a binge watch, acting is top notch from a very unknown cast.
Finished it yesterday. Found it worth watching. However, there were too many gaalis in it.

Also, its climax left a lot to be desired.

Started watching Killer Inside - The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.

Very interesting.

Finished this.

Brilliant viewing.

At the end I didn't know whether to feel sorry for him or not.

Poorly done. The story doesn't come close to the reality. I was involved in catching them back in 2015.

Just watched - Who Killed Little Gregory?

It's about the case of who killed Gregory Villemin, a case which has gripped France for 30 years.

Excellent viewing.

Just watch the full series (3 episodes) and it would be interesting to see your view. I won’t say anything on it yet.

Stopped watching after 10 mins of the 3rd episode.

First episode is excellent.
Second is great.
Third was a parody of the show.

Serious advice for all, don’t watch the third episode. It will ruin the show for you.

Moffat strikes again. This guy can build a great show but can’t end it properly to save his life. Wrote a pathetic Sherlock finale and ruined Dracula now.

Started watching The Alcassar Murders.

Netflix’s new five-part documentary series about the 1992 abduction and slaying of three teenage girls in Picassent, Spain.

Very interesting viewing.

95% of Netflix originals don’t interest me. Too many options these days.

Looking forward to watching Who Killed Malcolm X.

Just Finished both the seasons of "You".

Great acting by Penn Badgley portraying a sociopath.

Netflix been churning out utter craps for quite some time, they need to run proper quality inspection before green signalling every tom, dick and harry script. Only reason I still have the subscription is cuz I am desperately waiting for the next seasons of Fargo and Ozark.

Bojack Horseman. The best animated series I have ever seen. So thought-provoking.

Watching The Stranger on Netflix

The Brits may suck at comedy and/or pretty much everything else in life, but if they do one thing right it is making crime/mystery dramas.

I liked the third episode best, especially the reimagining of Lucy / Bloofer Lady. The first two were so horrible that I nearly gave up.

I like The Office American version too but watch Extras by Gervais. It's hilarious and every episode is based on and has a cameo by a celebrity.

Out of that lot I would rate:

Fawlty Towers ( best by a long way)
Blackadder
The Office
The Young Ones

The rest I could take or leave to be honest. East is East was probably the best black humour cross cultural film for me.

You can only come to this conclusion if you watch crap like: THE ONLY WAY IS ESSEX

It was meant to be a mild natured jab at the Brits. Jeez.... calm down. Take a walk in the sun, oops sorry.

But my Canadian/Pakistani humour does not align with British comedy and I do not find your comedy shows very funny. Apart from the IT crowd.

Off topic: anyone ever watched Inside no9 on BBC? One of the best dark comedy anthology series.

Currently watching Don't F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer.

A twisted criminal's gruesome videos drive a group of amateur online sleuths to launch a risky manhunt that brings them into a dark underworld.

Fascinating to watch. Really interesting.

Watched The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez.

This is a true crime documentary about the 2013 murder and abuse of Gabriel Fernandez, an eight-year-old boy from Palmdale, California.

This was one of the saddest things I have ever watched in my life. Brilliantly made but very difficult to watch.

Just finished watching Snowfall. What a show. Damson Idris is a seriously good actor.

Yes. Love it. I think its one of the best anthology series period and I've seen both the Twilight Zone and Black Mirror.

Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days

Netflix will reduce the video quality on its service in Europe for the next 30 days, to reduce the strain on internet service providers.

Demand for streaming has increased because large parts of Europe are self-isolating at home due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The video-streaming provider said lowering the picture quality would reduce Netflix data consumption by 25%.

But it said viewers would still find the picture quality good.

The change appears to include the UK but Netflix has not responded to the BBC's request for confirmation on this.

Video quality

The company will cut its streaming bitrates, which influence how clear and smooth videos look when streamed online.

Videos with a higher bitrate tend to look less "blocky" or pixelated, but use more data.

The announcement came after a phone call with European officials.

Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, had earlier said people should "switch to standard definition when HD [high-definition] is not necessary".

An hour of standard definition video uses about 1GB of data, while HD can use up to 3GB an hour.

Netflix also offers ultra-high definition 4K video for some of its programmes.

Netflix's decision to reduce video bitrate by a quarter appears to be a compromise.

"Following the discussions between Commissioner Thierry Breton and [Netflix chief executive] Reed Hastings, and given the extraordinary challenges raised by the coronavirus, Netflix has decided to begin reducing bitrates across all our streams in Europe for 30 days," the company said.

Commissioner Breton praised the "very prompt action" Netflix took just hours after the phone call, saying it would "preserve the smooth functioning of the internet during the Covid-19 crisis".

Internet usage

Netflix has not yet said whether the bitrate reduction will be applied to other areas such as North America.

Internet usage has been heightened in the last few weeks as more people work from home and avoid going out.

Telecoms giant Vodafone reported a 50% rise in internet use in Europe earlier this week.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday that the platform was seeing "big surges" as users tried to stay connected with friends.

The social media boss said the company typically saw its largest surge in use on New Year's Eve, but that recent demand had outpaced that.

Watching The Stranger.

A web of secrets sends family man Adam Price on a desperate quest to discover the truth about the people closest to him.

It's ok, I've watched 6 parts so far, but it's got to the stage now where I want it to finish and move on to the next series.

You.

What would you do for love? For a brilliant male bookstore manager who crosses paths with an aspiring female writer, this question is put to the test. A charming yet awkward crush becomes something even more sinister when the writer becomes the manager's obsession. Using social media and the internet, he uses every tool at his disposal to become close to her, even going so far as to remove any obstacle --including people -- that stands in his way of getting to her.

Watched 2 episodes so far and it's really good.

The Platform (Spanish)

Highly recommended distopian set movie.

Have had a lot of free time recently (like most of us) so been binging on Netflix. I do not watch Bollywood and haven't done so for years because the plot typically does not have alot of depth and dialogue is cheesy, but some of the Indian movies on Netflix are spectacular (do they fall under Bollywood). I watched Andhadhun and Badla and they both were epic. There was a show about scammers which I only watched one or two episodes, it had too much galam galouch and I couldn't enjoy so didn't watch alot.

I noticed there was some new series on Sigmund Freud available, I'll give that a watch next.

Rise of Empires: Ottoman was a great watch for a history buff like myself.

I don’t know if it’s going to be a series of different empires or continuing with the Ottomans.

Half was through the third series of Ozark and have to say I'm disappointing. It's been predictable with no major twist.

So you like suspense thrillers.
Drishyam is available on netflix, you should give it a shot sometime, its the best thriller to come out of indian cinema.

You should watch these Bollywood flicks on Netflix-

The lunchbox
Pink
Pad Man
Drishyam
Special 26
Stree
Kabir Singh
Kahaani

There wil be a session 5 of money heist? I loved the original story but can't get me motivated enough to watch season 3 let alone 4 and 5

Enjoyed the first season.

Struggling to keep my interest for season 2 though.

Keep watching. I'm on ep.8 and it's starting to get into 5th gear. It has been a slow burner compared to first two seasons, but it is quality stuff.

The Witcher, Utter garbage ..... trying to be at level with GoT and failed .... tbh GoT sets the bar very high.

Waiting for season 6 of Peaky Blinders. Whenever it comes out, thanks to the Chinese virus.

Finished watching all 5 seasons of Peaky Blinders. The first few episodes of the show were boring, but it does get better, and I'm glad I didn't give up on it.

Spoilers below:

Cillian Murphy does an excellent job playing Thomas Shelby's role. He was by far my favourite character in the show followed by Alfie. I do wish they didn't kill Grace, I still don't understand why they did that.

Still livid about John's death when they could have easily killed Finn instead, since Finn adds no value to the storyline whatsoever. John on the other hand provided a very good balance between Thomas and Arthur. I miss John. Same thing goes for Alfie, I wish we'd gotten to see more of him. :sree:

I did get annoyed every time I saw Esme's face so I'm glad she was ousted from the show after John's death. I do hope they get rid of Linda in the next season. She's just there to create problems in the Shelby family.

Don't want to get started on Michael, but he is easily the worst character in the show. Have hated him since day one. He is an opportunist. Left the mother that raised him to join the Shelby family. Made fun of Polly after she got sexually coerced by Campbell. Pointed a gun at John's head. Lost the Shelby family fortune, and he wants to take over Thomas. His own mother wasn't happy to see him coming back from America. I hope he gets beaten up/murdered by Thomas or Arthur in the next season.

Won't talk about Michael's wife since I don't want to use expletives here.

Overall: 9/10.
