The fully-licensed game will feature both the men’s and women’s teams from Australia and England ahead of the Ashes

The Ashes rivalry will extend well beyond the boundary and into households around the world this summer with the announcement of a new cricket video game.
Ashes Cricket, the first cricket game from Big Ant Studios to be fully licensed, will bring all the action of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes and Magellan Ashes Series to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC in November.

Big Ant has worked in conjunction with Cricket Australia and the England & Wales Cricket Board to create the most authentic cricket experience ever seen in a video game, with the new offering to feature photo-real depictions of the men’s and women’s teams from Australia and England.

All players have had their likenesses captured using 35 DSLR cameras to create lifelike characters in the game.

The cameras take one million photos, which are then stitched together by an algorithm to create a player’s in-game likeness. There’s then approximately 15 hours more work required on each player before they’re considered ready to play.

The Australian game studio has a strong history of bringing high-quality cricket video games to fans, including Don Bradman Cricket 17 and the Big Bash 2016 mobile game that was downloaded more than four million times.

“Cricket Australia’s new strategy recognises the growing role that gaming can play in reaching younger fans,” said Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland. “And by working with the likes of Big Ant to develop products that meet this need we are positioning ourselves as leaders in the cricket gaming space globally.

“The anticipation for the summer of cricket is building and this game will give our fans another way to be a part of the cricket excitement.”

To add to the realism of the game, Australian cricketers Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Emma Inglis and Mackinley Blows all had their movements captured in a complex recording process.

Each player was required to move around the 360-degree field playing a wide variety of shots depending on the height of the ball, and whether the shot was aggressive, normal or defensive.

Motion capture data from the Bupa National Cricket Centre was used to recreate bowling actions for the Australian players, while the skills of the in-game competitors have been assessed by Cricket Australia’s Team Performance unit.

In addition to being able to customize players, teams, stadiums, logos and match formats as per Big Ant’s previous sports games, cricket fans will be able to dive right into a comprehensive career mode.

Starting right down at a local club, players will be able to work their way through the ranks with the ultimate goal of leading their country to an Ashes triumph.

“Time and time again players tell us the feature they love most about our cricket games is the deep customisation options,” said Big Ant CEO, Ross Symons.

“We have produced a true Ashes cricket game, through and through, but we’ve also made sure that our heritage in sports games remains true.”

I love that maxwell is doing motion capture for this game.

Big Ant finally caught a big fish ai, managed to get support from the ECB and ACB; wonder how much of an effect this will have on the quality of the game given their investment.

I hope the batting and bowling animations look good this time at least with all the facial animation they did.

But hopefully in the next game they'll have licensed players from all the countries

I feel like the game will remain the same but with better models with regards to the individual cricketers from England and Australia, codemasters or EA need to get back into the cricket !

It looks same as DBC 17. DBC 17 was so disappointing, it was a step down from DBC 14. On top of that, this game was so expensive like $90 after tax. Don't buy this game until you read the reviews. I preordered last time and the game was unplayable for the first month. This should have been a DLC. Not gonna waste money once again for a game that is same with licensing.

I didn't get DBC17 becuase of all the bad reviews. I'm probably gonna do the same this time and wait for the reviews again.

DBC 17 has some amazing features such as being to play in hamara PSL but....

STATISTICS ARENT LOGGED PROPERLY :(

I bought it like an idiot, mainly because DBC 14 was very good. I never though a game released 3 years later will have an inferior graphics but it did.

Yes dbc 14 was quite better than dbc 17.
I really hope this will be better version, though I would like to see EA releasing a cricket game.
But already Big Ant have made a huge progress by getting licensed team of England and Australia.

EA is currently making one. I'm sure graphically it will be better but might not be accurate as DBC 14. It is very hard to get cricket game right. Cricket gaming market is very small. Most in South Asia cannot afford to pay
Rs. 4500 for a single game and most won't have the graphics requirement or have Rs. 30,000 PS4 console.

It will be released on the 16th of November, look forward to the reviews...:irfan

my biggest probem with most of these games is the unrealistic ball physics when bowling. Just does not feel natural.

Stick Cricket actually has the bowling speed down pretty well.

Agreed, Stick Cricket is so underated but its a shame for the developers who make games on bigger platforms that many of us would rate Stick Cricket ahead of their games. EA or Codemasters need to get back in the game, am kinda put off Big Ant and don't think the release next month will be great, probably a repackaged DB17

its basically a dlc for Don Bradman 17 so it will definitely suck, not looking forward at all

I heard EA is launching theirs around 2019. I'm waiting for that one because I think it will be a remastered version of 07 and most importantly will have online multiplayer. Personally I feel EA don't even need to make a new game, just add online gaming in 07 and it will be enough to beat every other cricket game being released

True that EA 07 game is still so popular

EA are not working on a cricket game. That news story has been conforms to be false.

Don't know why people would get excited by EA developing it. It won't have the team or the financial backing that the FIFA series has. And their last cricket games weren't anything special either. Cricket 07's core gameplay is horrible. The only reason it's survived till date is because of the extensive mod support from the community.

I only got DBC 17 a few months ago, so I don't know how horrible it was at launch. But I've enjoyed batting much more on it than DBC 14. Customizing the sliders and difficulty was a brilliant addition. In 14, I would always plant the front foot as it was difficult to pick up length. But I bat much more fluidly in 17 and it feels more rewarding.

Bowling is ok. Don't bowl much except leg spin career from time to time.

However, I agree this Ashes game looks just like DBC 17 with an added license. The player animations could be different as they have used the professional players for mo-cap. But I doubt it make any difference to the gameplay and is more just for cosmetic.

BLC 99 was one of my favorite games during childhood. Served as my first proper introduction to the different players of the different teams.

I loved the little bars against each discipline during the loading screen. Taught me that Pak's strength were bowling and India'a batting. Still remember Boycott's intro for the Pak team on commentary:

"Pakistan are a superb One Day side. Their bowling is outstanding, often leading the batting meager totals to score. Their only weakness is in the fielding, where they can lose concentration from time to time."

Just realized that descripton could match the current side as well :amir3

Weakness in fielding and the current side? :murali

On second thoughts, we do drop catches from time to time so that's where the concentration comes in. :ba

Bin Ant's New Cricket Game

Hey Guys
First time poster, long time lurker here. I'd like to talk about something that is not talked about too much on this blog. I urge my fellow readers to buy the latest cricket game Ashes Cricket developed by Big Ants Studios. Cricket games come out few and far between these days and Big Ants studios has developed a great cricket game for cricket fans. Alot of memebers of pakpassion are teenagers or in their early 20s, and are bound to be interested in games. This game studio has developed several cricket games before as well so they are pretty experienced. The latest game only has licensed playrs from the English and Australian Cricket teams, but other players from different nations can be downloaded online through the user generated section. We as cricket fans dont get enough quality video games these days, so we should support developers who make quality cricket games even though our beloved **** team might not be in it. It's a quality game with tight controls, and shouldnt be overlooked by any cricket fan.

I agree a 100%. The only way the quality of cricket games can be improved is if we have more developers in the market . And the only way we'll see other developers is if they realize the genuine interest in cricket games we have.

Clearly not an advert at all.

Ironic that Maxwell has been used heavily to promote this and he might not be in the Ashes at all.

Not really an advert.Dont know why you're saying that. Im just trying to raise awareness for this game. I rather people not overlook this game and group it with the garbage cricket games that come out on iOS and android on a daily basis.

Not worth it, won't be buying this garbage will be getting the latest fifa instead more value for money.

I will buy it if the price comes down to £20-£25 because I don't think that cricket games are worth full price unless they introduce a competitive and active online mode like FIFA and UT or online seasons.
