New Zealand (243/5) defeat Pakistan (242) comfortably by 5 wickets in the final of Tri-Nation ODI series

C’mon bro nitpicking on a guy who just played a historic knock. Your benchmark for Rizwan is Bradman or what?
u cant understand the problem or what , for no reason he took 13 balls to score a single and this happened after the powerplay , the field was spread out... At one point he was just 8 or 9 off 32 balls... Putting too much pressure on himself and the non-striker Salman... Even in the 350 chase he was scoring at 75 SR ended the game with 90+ SR couldnt even do 100 SR...

If Rizwan was out for 20(11) like most people want him to, Pak would have been wrapped up for 180-200 max.

I just wanted to understand his thought process for scoring at 60 SR consuming 76 balls in modern day cricket. No one else can explain it better than you.

Rizwan is a very responsible and calculative cricketer. Proof in how he lead the chase the other day. He had a target in mind and unfortunately got out before he could make it count. His innings still gave Pak a fighting chance. Sometimes these calculations goes wrong: I have seen it happen with master chasers/ calculative bats like Kohli, Miller and Dhoni too.

The real issues, if you can look past your bias, is our utmost insistence of playing fake all rounders who are neither good bowlers or batsmen i.e. HappyHeart and Rana. We are better off playing a proper batsmen and a bowler instead of those two...I still have no idea how those two made a comeback in the team!

This is literally such a trash squad. Imagine a team and middle order consisting of the likes of Saud, Khushdil, Faheem, Tayyab...My god. Doubt any of these guys will be remembered even in a year's time. And this isn't even taking into account an even worse bowling lineup made-up of hospitalized Abrar, and social media stars SSA, Haris, and Naseem.

Honestly think this team is the worst we've put up for a world tournament. Up there with the 2015 ODI World Cup (Sohaib Maqsood, Shehzad, U Akmal anyone??? LOL).

We will get slaughtered in the CT.

Bad days ahead.

Say bits of the game, obviously not enough runs but the bowling looks weak. When Faheem is your 3rd seamer you have very little wicket taking opportunities

we dont have even 4 bowlers

Ya for you guys any team pak select is worst it was the same team for god sake which smashed australia and south africa in their home you guys will always complain aqib knows what he is doing.

Salman Agha who won the player of the series award shared the following thoughts in the post game presentation:

"I'm batting well and I'm happy with that. But at the end of the day we didn't win unfortunately. We'll focus on the Champions Trophy now."

Thoughts on today's pitch:

"We knew one wicket (batting first) is going to be a bit better and next one is going to be slower, and the ball was gripping in this pitch. This is something you can expect in Karachi. Was a 280-290 kind of wicket. My wicket and Rizwan's wicket made it 240, otherwise it could've been different story."

Which bit of his performance, he enjoyed the most (batting or bowling)?

"I love batting so I'll go with batting. It was a challenging pitch to bat on."

Are you really referencing demolishing Australia's C team? if that's the standard you want, good luck to this team. Also don't recall any of this middle order, besides maybe Tayyab, in SA (and if so, doing anything, pretty sure Saim Ayub carried that entire lineup). So, wrong on all accounts.

They played full team first 2 games.

Mohammad Rizwan in the post match presentation ceremony shared the following thoughts:

Thoughts on today's encounter against New Zealand:

"We batted first because we thought the pitch would be difficult. And it was. Credit to their bowlers. Salman and I had to build the partnership after losing 3 early wickets. We were looking at 260. I got out at the wrong time and that changed the game for us."

Emphasized the need to improve team fieding:

"We need to improve in the field. It's one department where we have to improve. Abrar is brilliant in the field, the others also have to catch up."

Rationale behind batting first:

"We wanted to take the pressure of batting first as well (before the Champions Trophy 2025)."

Not really from the final one day game in South Africa, these players was not playing today:
Saim
Abdullah
Kamran
Hasnain
Sufiyan

Out of those players, only Kamran and Hasnian are in the CT squad. I don't think anybody can deny that the squad named for the Champions Trophy is one of the worst picked for an ICC tournament. And a lot of us will not be surprised if Pakistan don't get past the group stages.

New Zealand cruised to a five-wicket victory over hosts Pakistan in the final of the tri-nation ODI series, successfully chasing a 243-run target with 28 balls to spare at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Friday.

Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham anchored the chase with a crucial 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket, both registering half-centuries. Mitchell, who came in at 76-2, scored 57 off 58 balls, striking six boundaries, while Latham contributed 56 off 64 deliveries, including five fours.

Latham then combined with Glenn Phillips (20* off 17 balls, 2x4s) for a steady 37-run stand off 31 balls for the fifth wicket, guiding New Zealand to victory in 45.2 overs.

Pakistan had an early breakthrough when Naseem Shah trapped Will Young in front of the stumps in the second over. However, Kane Williamson (34 off 49 balls, 3x4s, 1x6) and Devon Conway (48 off 74 balls, 5x4s) built a solid 71-run stand for the second wicket.

For Pakistan, Naseem Shah picked up two wickets, while Salman Ali Agha, Abrar Ahmed, and Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed one each.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat, but lost Fakhar Zaman in the fourth over to Player of the Match Will O’Rourke. Struggling at 54-3 in 11.5 overs, Pakistan found stability through a crucial 88-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (46 off 76 balls, 4x4s, 1x6) and Salman Ali Agha (45 off 65 balls, 1x4, 1x6).

O’Rourke bowled Rizwan in the 32nd over, while Salman fell to Michael Bracewell in the 37th, leaving Pakistan at 161-5.

Tayyab Tahir provided some late resistance, scoring 38 off 33 balls with four boundaries and a six before being dismissed by Jacob Duffy in the 42nd over. The lower order added 47 runs, with Faheem Ashraf (22) and Naseem Shah (19) making useful contributions.

O’Rourke was the standout bowler for New Zealand, finishing with figures of 9.3-0-43-4, while Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell claimed two wickets each.

Pakistan and New Zealand will now meet again in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the same venue on Wednesday, 19 February.

Once again batting let down Pakistan. No one stepped up when needed and the job to get it done was entirely left to a bowling attack that is weak and nothing special.

Another 50 runs would have done the trick for Pakistan. It’s very hard to defend below 250 scores in this day and age.

His arrogance got caught out again with its pants down.

They batted first to test the bowling as if their batting is well equipped to score 30-40 above par on any track.

Besharam batting unit lead by the most besharam batsman of the modern era!

It was a very good tri-series. It gave me 90's vibe. These tri-series were quite common in the 90's.

Pakistan should arrange more. Maybe one yearly tri-series like Australia used to do.

Great explanation bro but i think you forgot to mention another calculative bat: Misbah.

Yes and so does everyone else besides you 🤡
They absolutely have 3 world class pacers for odi and t20
2 very good pacers as well for LoI so all yo 5 quality pacers

But in tests it’s about 3 which is still top tier.

The guy who is saying otherwise is delusional lmao
