Not sure how active it will be but thought it best to create the thread for the new upcoming season

What would success look like for you in this upcoming season? I've kept my eyes on the team a little bit due to some friends who were Newcastle fans during the more difficult era. As an outsider, I think a top 6 finish with no cups could still be seen as a success in the grand scheme of the overall project. Obviously the aim should always be higher but if at the end of the season thats how Newcastle finish I think it will be a decent return. What are your expectations as a lifelong fan?Not sure how active it will be but thought it best to create the thread for the new upcoming season

Acc to reports Isak will stay at Newcastle.
For Liverpool spending 150m was a bit much anyway imo.
According to reports Liverpool bid £110m, which was rightly rejected
Not sure what they were hoping to achieve with such a low ball bid
I do think the club would be willing to sell but it would have to be upwards of £120m, maybe closer to £150m
I still think a deal ends up happening, once you move Nunez, Elliott on you'll use that money to up your bid, especially if we manage to sign our replacements first
The player wants to leave , LFC see this as a bargaining tool to reduce price , esp with the way Isak reacted. His attitude is not conducive to the clubs momentum after a lot of hard work from new owners , world class manager , wining a major trophy. If Newcastle refuse will they get the same Isak as last year ? Liverpool are champions, they believe they already have the squad to retain the crown. Nunez could turn the switch but he’s 2nd choice. I’d rather we spend on central defenders instead of paying 150m. Tbh I’d prefer his attitude fully focused on Newcastle unless they want to sell. It’s a short career but for Liverpool professionalism should be key when pay a record price . I doubt it will go through, lfc if still interested can wait 12 months
£110m is a fair price for an injury prone striker who has never broken the 30 goal barrier in his career.According to reports Liverpool bid £110m, which was rightly rejected

As the selling club we get to decide what is a fair price, not Liverpool and not you
I get that and the feeling from a lot of Newcastle fans is that they want him gone, his actions have turned people off him, which is a shame as he was brilliant for us
However we can't allow that to then dictate the price otherwise it's a blueprint for others to follow, just down tools and you get the move you want at a low fee
I do think Liverpool up their bid but if they don't then Isak is going to have to quickly get over it, it's a World Cup year so he can't afford to play half heartedly
Isak is not worth the price Newcastle have put on his head, Liverpool are not very desperate to sign him but Isak is desperate to leave, and there will be no bidding war because no one is going to pay this much for him.
It is a very messy but interesting situation that could go either way.
That is fine, you can ask a billion pounds for him if you wish to, but Newcastle have already shown that they are a little delusional about where they stand in today and where they are going, as reflected by the fact that they were caught off-guard by Isak asking for a transfer this summer. As the selling club we get to decide what is a fair price, not Liverpool and not you
Newcastle don’t want to project the image that they want to be a selling club to superior PL clubs and I get that. This might set a wrong precedence, especially when Gordon is on Arsenal’s radar as well.I rarely agree with you . But it’s not messy from lfc side , we were open made a bid . Newcastle should have just boosted his wages and shown him a vision . Arsenal and Liverpool have both sold their best player, it takes time to recover if you want to be the best
I don’t think it’s fair to only criticize Newcastle here. They’re his employers, and they clearly value him highly—so it makes sense they’re asking for a certain amount if he’s going to leave.
Newcastle have played this so poorly . No point forcing a player to stay if he wants to leave so desperately.
That thread seems more focused on attacking each other than on sharing useful insights that others can benefit fromBeen reading the Arsenal thread, turns out Elanga has already scored his first goal for Newcastle![]()
I don’t think it’s fair to only criticize Newcastle here. They’re his employers, and they clearly value him highly—so it makes sense they’re asking for a certain amount if he’s going to leave.
But what really surprises me is his behavior, especially as a Swedish player. This kind of attitude doesn’t reflect the values usually associated with Scandinavia, and he’s definitely no Zlatan. I understand he wants a move, but he should stay professional: keep training, keep playing, and let his agents and the clubs handle the rest.
Let’s say he moves to Liverpool and they have a bad season—what then? Will he sit out and wait for a transfer to Man City or PSG? Honestly, I don’t usually comment on these things, but I haven’t liked how he’s handled this situation. Of course, I don’t know the full story—there might be more going on behind the scenes. Maybe one day he’ll explain.

I disagree that we have played this badly, we have been on the backfoot on a situation caused by Isak and by extension Liverpool
I actually think Liverpool/Isak have colluded to behave in such a way to make it so toxic that we just think "let's just get rid", which would be playing exactly into their hands
Whilst I don't care for keeping Isak if he doesn't want to be here, why on earth should we be forced to accept a lowball bid? What kind of precedent does that set? Next season what if there is interest in Tonali? And he reacts the same way, then what?
Also, what is baffling is the timing from Isak, he should have made it clear much earlier that he wanted to be away but he left it until we were back from pre-season. Which is why I think he's done it in conjunction with Liverpool to try and lower the price
Plus, it's being played out in the media with mouthpieces like Ornstein and Romano, if Isak really wants to leave then he should grow a pair and submit an official transfer request? But that would mean losing money so instead he's behaving like a scumbag instead
He also needs to tell his agent to get Liverpool to make a proper bid, not that nonsensical £110m, which was rightly dismissed
It's such a messy situation and has massively disrupted our season but I'd be more annoyed if the club cave in and sell him for a below value fee
Liverpool made an open bid, there was no backhanded plan with Isak. I agree a club should get the value of the player esp if he still has 3 years remaining. However the situation right now is ISAK is refusing to play at all in the first XI. Player power is huge in the modern game. If I was a Newcastle fan, I would want him out even for 90m! If this drama continues into the season, he will await for the Jan window , which could damage the squad moral , mentality. Your club has improved , it would be a shame if this episode sets the club back .
There's good reasoning behind PSR. Look it's understandable why clubs like Newcastle and Villa feel PSR frustrates their ability to catch up with the established clubs. However spending needed reining in.I feel sorry for Newcastle United fans. They have the richest owners in football, but can't spend any money due to PSR, which is complete BS. How can you tell someone who is a billionaire that they can't spend their money because of some nonsensical financial fairplay rules?
As for Isak, what a joke of a human being.
That's your opinion but I think otherwise
Obviously neither can prove definitively what's happened but the behaviour of Isak combined with the lowball bid is why I'm convinced collusion has taken place. Plus you add in how Romano/Orsntein/Jacobs have basically been running PR for Liverpool
I don't care for Isak, seeing him play again for us is of no interest but as a club we absolutely have to take a stand, accepting "even for 90m!" would actually set such a bad precedent for the club. I would actually prefer to let him sit in the reserves for 3 years and then leave on a free
We absolutely should not accept any fee, it has to be at the price we deem suitable and I personally would go one step further if Liverpool do match the evaluation, I would insist he submits an official transfer request, there's not a chance he should be leaving with any sort of loyalty bonus
Fwiw I think Liverpool will come back with another bid around £120m with some add ons and I think the club will accept
It's the agents which do the negotiations. Isak's agent knew Liverpool want him and are willing to bid a new British transfer record, the player wants the move too. I dont think its much more than this, ultimately the player chooses his future and his attitude towards his current club who dont want him to leave.
Newcastle fans are becoming way too emotional over this, burning his shirts, calling him all sorts of names on social media and demanding he is sent to the reserves for the next 3 years lol. We both know this wont happen, Newcastle is also a business and this doesn't make any commercial sense at all.
No one player is bigger than any club. This saga could impact on the teams performances and morale in the squad. Sell him , he's gone and the club can move on to concentrate on winning football matches.
Liverpool want Isak as he is proven Premier League quality esp his all round game which suits our style of play. We could have hunted the likes of Gyokeres but Isak is a far superiour striker, hence willing to pay so much for him. I think LFC should not up their bid now, the player wants to leave and imo Newcastle will accept the bid if they are sensible, before the window closes.
I think that would actually get the deal done, maybe even a touch less, £120m plus £10-15m in add ons and it happensThe max I would pay for Izak is 140m
Definitely they should take the money and re invest in the squad however I don't think they can make top 6 unless they get someone of the same quality.I think that would actually get the deal done, maybe even a touch less, £120m plus £10-15m in add ons and it happens
There's no bottom to his barrel. Stick him on ignore instead of descending to his level. My word, I thought you just talked rubbish when it came to Arsenal, turns out you are a massive racist too
There's no bottom to his barrel. Stick him on ignore instead of descending to his level.
Back to the actual football: not only is a compromise needed over the fee before Isak goes anywhere, there also needs to be a domino effect.
Newcastle want Wissa at Brentford who want to replace him with Ouattara at Bournemouth who want to replace him with Adli at Leverkusen...
With Ramsey's signing it seems Newcastle will utilise Gordon more as a 9 so signing two strikers this summer won't be necessary.
Seems like Ramsey deal will be confirmed soon
Whenever I have watched him play I have always been impressed with him, seems like a good footballer, only concern I have is around his injuries
@shaz619 What's the general feeling amongst Villa fans about this deal?
There was one example of a fan burning a shirt, which even if we accept was legit is not exclusive to Newcastle
Football fans are emotional, did Liverpool fans not bur Gerrard's shirt or Trents?
Of course we want to sell him but again, it can't just be at a lowball price, that's much worse for us long term than having him sulk and refuse to train/play
If Liverpool make a bid that is befitting of his quality, they will get him, instead they are trying to take advantage of a situation they engineered and so far it hasn't worked for them in getting Isak at a lowball price
There are always a minority of idiots in every club. But in general the Newcastle fans havent taken this well, which is understandable. We've never really had a player who has ever refused to play/train with 3 years left!
I think LFC should move on and not entertain any higher bids. We have enough attackers right now.
Do you have enough?
You've sadly lost Jota in tragic circumstances but also sold Diaz/Nunez
Brought in Ekitike, whilst Rio looks a talent he's a kid you don't want to be relying on
Liverpool do need one more and I do think Isak deal happens late in the window (after our game on Bank Holiday)
The problem is the manager doesn't seem to rate Chiesa at all. He's probably back off to Italy this window. The more the merrier but we have Wirtz now who can play all around the pitch. Salah can also play centre, with Chiesa on the right. Gapko and Etitike can also play in various positions.
The first match is tonight! LFC need to get on with gelling this new team and focus on trying to regain the title. This is a great chance to get to 21 and with this squad its possible.
The problem is the manager doesn't seem to rate Chiesa at all. He's probably back off to Italy this window.
Now Ben Doak seems to be off to Bournemouth !
So we definitely need attacking reinforcements if we're to compete on all fronts. A young, versatile winger like a Fofana or Yildiz would be ideal.
Seems to be like he's released that statement as he's getting desperate
One final act to make things so toxic that we will just accept any lowball bid
He's talking about broken promises? What would that promise have been? That he can join Liverpool? Or that he can leave? If it's to leave then surely he would accept a move to any club, it doesn't have to be Liverpool? The only thing that is confirmed is he signed a 6 year contract and he has 3 years left on it. He should be upset at his agent and himself for not trusting in his ability by putting in a healthy release clause at the time
He's full of crap and this statement makes me wish the club match his energy and make him sit 3 years out, whilst it impacts us financially in the short term, long term we'll be fine but he'll be almost 29 and having sat on his backside which serious club goes for him
Isak accusing Newcastle of broken Promises.

Alexander Isak transfer news: Liverpool target breaks silence to declare he 'can't continue' at Newcastle
Newcastle deny giving Alexander Isak a commitment he could leave this summer as the striker pushes for a move to Liverpool and say they do not foresee the player being sold as the conditions required for them to sanction a sale are unlikely to transpire in the final weeks of the windowwww.skysports.com
I think that Liverpool have developed some leverage also, no need to pay £150m, try and get for 120 with additional onsOnly thing that's written down is he has 3 years left on his contract
He wants to leave (which I understand) but he's gone about it in totally the wrong way and he's now so desperate he's making the situation as toxic as possible
When really he should be telling Liverpool to make a proper offer instead of the crap one they made
I think that Liverpool have developed some leverage also, no need to pay £150m, try and get for 120 with additional ons
I agree bhai.I think £120m with add ons would have gotten the deal done earlier but they only bid £110m
It's a risky strategy because this kind of tactic annoys people more and I hope the club are even more determined to not cave in, if anything they should up the price
I agree bhai.
Truth be told, quality player but for Liverpool, I would prefer a more versatile attacker- Rodrygo did not play for Madrid again tonight
He is in a situation where Liverpool clearly do not want him enough and he has burnt his bridges with Newcastle.
Newcastle should remain determined to not be bullied, and if I was a Liverpool fan I wouldn't be overly interested in a player who can crap on his club to try and get his own way.
Yeah its probably the case. Hopefully Newcastle hold out, you guys have big aspirations and cant be treated as a small club that is a stepping stone to bigger things.Maybe different from a fans perspective but I am absolutely convinced he has been coached to behave this way by both Liverpool and his agent
You are spot on bhai.Isak is premier league proven, not just scoring goals but his all round game has improved vastly over the last two years. Eddie Howe and the Newcastle coaching staff have done a great job. The chances created for him in the LFC team will allow him to score 20+ league goals, add this to the other attackers goals, it will ensure another league title strong challenge.
Isak has angered the Newcastle fans, which is understandable but again this stance of forcing him to stay, playing reserves is daft, the club wont have him playing and will be losing money. Liverpool will not bid more ,there is no need now, unless we lose to Newcastle next Monday lol.
Yeah its probably the case. Hopefully Newcastle hold out, you guys have big aspirations and cant be treated as a small club that is a stepping stone to bigger things.
And perhaps I am being overly generous to Liverpool fans. Football fans are generally weird that they think a player is a hero if he comes to their club, but if it was a Liverpool player doing this those same fans would be irate and up in arms.
I do think there is a lot of genuine supporters of all clubs who hate this behaviour and conduct.
Isak’s behavior has been highly unprofessional but you are wrong to draw parallels between him and Trent. The situation is completely different.Look how Liverpool fans treated Trent and he never once downed tools but they are lapping up everything Isak is doing
To be fair it's not unique to them, there are some Newcastle fans that are criticising Isak but are willing to give Wissa a free pass, even though his behaviour hasn't been too dissimilar to that of Isak
Isak’s behavior has been highly unprofessional but you are wrong to draw parallels between him and Trent. The situation is completely different.
Firstly, Trent was a youth Liverpool player and you expect more loyalty from youth players.
Secondly, Liverpool are very successful. Trent has won everything at the club so Liverpool fans were right to think that he had no reason to leave.
In comparison, Newcastle are not successful. They are going absolutely nowhere and are not even close to competing for the league. Isak joined them only 3 years ago so has no affiliation or connection with the club.
How is that going to benefit Newcastle ?I think Newcastle should not be bullied into selling Isak. They don't need the money as they are the richest football club in the world. So they should stick to their guns and let Isak rot in the reserves.
How is that going to benefit Newcastle ?
It won’t. Newcastle have become far too emotional. Isak has refused to play but the club are begging him to return while the fans are calling him some evil villain simply for wanting a career change when an opportunity has arisen. They should sell him use the money to strengthen the squad and concentrate on the season or this will continue until jan.
Monday night should be interesting. Liverpool will face a motivated team but could use their emotions against them and take advantage
@Geordie Ahmed your thoughts on the Liv game plz
I'd be confident if we had a striker
Gordon is not and never will be a striker and I think that will end up hurting us in the game
I think Liverpool score 2-3 and with no recognised striker I don't see how we manage to match the scoring
And I think we'll concede 2-3 ourselves !I'd be confident if we had a striker
Gordon is not and never will be a striker and I think that will end up hurting us in the game
I think Liverpool score 2-3 and with no recognised striker I don't see how we manage to match the scoring
Thanks for your comment.
I thought Newcastle would have acted a bit more strongly in the transfer market after having another good season and with their ownership. They’ve been acting weaker than they should need to imo.
I saw some analysis which suggested that Murphy to Isak was one of the top assist/goal combo in pl last year. Isak’s class is obvious but that tells me that Murphy is also really good. Maybe he should be starting too.
Gordon’s scored imp goals for Newcastle but don’t know if he has the composure to be the no. 9
Best of luck against Liv.
If we had Isak starting or even a decent striker then I think we could score 2-3 but without a recognised striker it will be toughAnd I think we'll concede 2-3 ourselves !
St James is always a tough place to visit, and the atmosphere will be even more lively than usual because of the Isak drama.
Frimpong is injured, Bradley is touch and go, and Gomez hasn't had much training time so our right flank may be a source of joy for Newcastle.
We also need to match Newcastle's physicality in midfield as Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno ran all over ours in the League Cup Final. Hence why I'd prefer Szobo to start with Wirtz either wide left or coming off the bench once Newcastle tire.
Draw would be a decent result for us.
I don't think that is the case at all
We've explained what the conditions for sale are, they haven't been met
We know whilst the window remains open there is no chance of him getting reintegrated back into the squad. If he is here when the window closes then I think he will be reintegrated
We will but only on our terms and when a bid that matches what we deem him to be worth, that hasn't happened yetYour manager said he would welcome him back with desperation in his face . No player is bigger than a club. Liverpool has always had a close relationship with Newcastle as it’s similar to Liverpool, a fans club. Let him go , he’s good but he’s not a Shearer, Rooney or Salah .
Newcastle dominated the league cup final but tonight the emotions may get the better of them . The fans are desperate not to lose at home to Liverpool .
I agree , a draw is good for both clubs at this time
We will but only on our terms and when a bid that matches what we deem him to be worth, that hasn't happened yet
Suarez wasn't allowed to leave despite wanting to, he then had his best season and left a year later
