"No input was taken from franchises about processes for PSL 6" : Sameen Rana, Lahore Qalandars

The fallout continues

Lahore Qalandar COO Sameen Rana:

"First we need to understand what a bio-secure bubble is in the first place; This sort of bubble has been established in many places around the world and there are standards which are followed to achieve that"

"Let's take the example of IPL that took place in the UAE and this was about a 45-50 day tournament, we then had the T10 League in which we participated and that was a 15 day tournament, and there were no positive cases in it"

"And then we had the series against South Africa that happened without any problem, so the question is what was the reason that only positive COVID-19 cases came out in PSL?"

"In my humble opinion, the protocols followed during the South Africa series and IPL were not present during PSL 6; We need to accept this and learn from it - There is nothing wrong in doing this and finger pointing will not achieve anything positive"

"Let us accept that our planning was flawed, and let me give you an example; In any league around the world, all teams are tested for COVID-19 on every fourth day; In PSL, there were COVID-19 tests done at the start of the tournament and then there was a gap of about 10-15 days when no such test was conducted"

"The only time the test was done when the IU player felt unwell - this will show you that our SOPs were not well thought or planned"

"I do not say that franchises are not to blame for this but the process in such cases is built by the organizer; If you are conducting an event then it's you who specify the processes and then you ensure that these processes are followed; Those who do not follow the process are then strictly handled by the organizer"

"I have come from Dubai on the understanding that I am being protected (from COVID-19) by the PCB"

"When you plan anything of this nature, it needs to be done carefully and the responsibility lies with the organization who is organizing this event"

"No input was taken from franchises about the processes involved - if I had been asked, I would have shared my T10 experience"

"Staying at the Movenpick hotel was not a franchisee decision; It was said that players were using the staircase which was unsafe but question to ask is who opened the path to the staircase?"

"When we had a call with the PCB, it is I who raised the issue about owners of teams sitting in the ground with the teams; If you look at IPL, LPL or the South Africa series, you will not find one instance where owners were walking about inside the ground"

"Do give air time to the owners but not in the ground, as this can be done away from the ground in galleries etc"

"There is no point us taking vaccines now as it is well documented that only after 6 weeks of the first shot do we get anti-bodies”

With each and every day, the sheet incompetence and carelessness of PCB continues to get exposed.

The reality is that there was no such bubble in the first place, and what we are finding out through media and the statements of the owners is just a glimpse of the lax attitude that the PCB leadership exhibited.

Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani are sweating bullets right now because if the real story comes out in public, they will be on borrowed time and even their sycophancy towards their patron is unlikely to save their jobs,

Damning stuff from Sameen - and am sure the inquiry will be told all this.

Well done Javed Afridi, aur bulao influencers ko!

The PCB should take most of the blame. They had months to prepare for this. They should have laid down rules from day 1. The BCCI and IPL franchises laid down the rules before the players were due to fly out. These franchises stories seem to me there was no rules and no clarity on who should be in the bubble and who should not.

I feel that the truth is somewhere in between

Probably rules were communicated but enforcement suffered due to personal relationships between franchise and pcb guys

No one realized the enormity of their lack of diligence.

Exactly. The bubble did not exist in the first place, and that's just pathetic.

I personally think that Javed Afridi should be penalized, fined, and banned from all future games in this edition with the attitude he has shown. His own desperation to revive his business by endorsing celebrities and attempting to use Peshawar Zalmi as a platform to sell his brand is clearly visible, and because of this, he should be removed from all future PSL games.

Until PCB makes an example out of Javed Afridi, everyone will continue to raise points and start sharing stories which may or may not be true.

I don't know what Sameen Rana is saying either, he was also at the center of incompetence by playing a COVID positive Haris Rauf fully knowing that he demonstrated symptoms of the vaccine. His own incompetence ranges out of this world, which is why I don't believe much that comes out of his mouth as he is trying to cover up for his own franchise's braindead retaliation to Peshawar Zalmi's phadda.

PCB need to make an example out of someone to protect their own reputation, and if any players want to boycott the league, they should be made aware that they will be sacrificing their futures with Pakistan by doing so.

PCB should have made rules before the competition. If you don't follow them you will be punished.

Its important that the franchises put their foot down if they feel PCB is doing something wrong - or we will have same issues when PSL 6 resumes (whenever)

When the first sentence starts with "First we need to understand what a bio-secure bubble is in the first place"

Then you know you are in trouble.

Organizing and maintaining a biosecure bubble was well above and beyond PCBs paygrade. They should have reached out to the ministry of health and other agencies to operate the bubble because they themselves were totally clueless.
