No news on fitness tests for Australia and India players before World Cup squads are announced?

Seems that players from these countries are superman who come pre-tested, since we never hear a word about them having to pass tests.

But in Pakistan's case, there is a whole palawa of tests etc before they are considered.

Seems odd but is our fitness so bad?

Other teams don’t tend to differentiate between international fitness and domestic fitness.

Only in Pakistan will you see someone like Umar captain a team in the Pakistan Cup days after being declared unfit for international cricket.

The fact that Indian and Australian players are playing in the IPL have played international cricket recently is enough proof for their fitness.

Besides, I am sure basic procedures are carried out anyway and they don’t necessarily have to make the news.

Pakistan is new to this whole fitness business so perhaps they feel the need to make a big drama out of it.

That sums up the whole thing.

Let's be honest- for decades Pakistan players have been under par for international cricket fitness.

Spare me the one off examples of fit players & great professionals because for every Misbah or YK you have a Shoaib whose ego bowls for eternity but can only deliver 8 overs day at high pace on an Oz Test tour & then he's a huff & puff trundler.

The fact Mickey felt he had to make such a public point of it tells you the standard was poor.

In Oz we have seen guys like Cosgrove not selected for their weight. Khwahaja was dropped for over a year until he got fit, ,lost weight & improved his running in wickets & fielding.

I think every team does it. Pakistan is just in a position where a new standard /benchmark is trying to be brought in to CHANGE a culture, rather than deal with the odd outlier.

Mickey can't be involved with every FC franchise but he CAN publicly set out the standard he wants them to bring players to. It's a necessary step.

Because Indian and Australian players know the importance of fitness. They are brought up with the importance of fitness.

The fitness testing for the world cup would have infact happened before the odi series preceding the world cup (for eg the Aus-nz series for India or the India-pak series for Australia). Barring any serious injury between then & now, all players would be deemed fit to play for the WC & only playing form & team strategy would be the criteria to select a team.

Fitness test is only important for the people trying to break into the team or getting back after an injury

There’s an interesting interview with India’s strength and conditioning trainer on gulfnews.com.

If you google the headline “Cricket World Cup 2019: Eat, sleep, play - welcome to Indian team’s fitness world” you’ll see a link to it.
