"No one in Pakistan questioned me when I donated $10,000 for Yuvraj's foundation": Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi at a media talk:

"Our foundation does health and education related work and clean water also so this was something new for us. So I planned to go out and help others as much as I could. The issue was how to start because we didn't have volunteers. I was also worried about people working due to me and potentially catching the virus but we all planned to come out together.

"We started a campaign and us 4-5 friends invested 25-30 lakhs to start working. I came to my village, I gave my team instructions from here. Here, we have a lot of needy people and the cities are under lockdown so I took my family and we started work. There were many challenges, reaching villages in KP. We started getting messages from many villages.

"It was like climbing K2 for me because some of the areas were so far away and isolated but we made the intention to help. The roads there were so bad that I had to drive at 5-10 kph and it was a big challenge. But once you make the intention, you have to carry it out.

"I would like to thank General Asif Ghafoor who helped me reach into these areas. I got in touch with commissioners in many areas to reach them. They all helped me a lot and made things easy for me. The people in Chitral gave me so much love. I have been all over Pakistan but I haven't seen people as disciplined as the ones in Chitral. Thousands of people were coming for ration and observing social distancing norms, they set a great example.

"This isn't the time for politics, this is a problem for everyone. People need to stop bringing politics into everything, I am worried about the whole of Pakistan and want to reach all the areas. More people will need to come out for food drives. If we sit at home then people will start dying of hunger. So those people who are financially blessed and otherwise need to go out and help others.

"SA Foundation works with all parties. I have worked with PPP in Sindh, al-Khidmat of JUI in Kohat, MQM, PTI, I am ready to work with everyone but please don't give this a political angle.

"Pakistan is very big, we have many more places we need to reach. So far, we have reached around 9500 houses and given them ration for 2-3 weeks. We have a lot more to do. I also request the govt. to make a plan that is correctly followed, I can also become a part of that and help. We have a lot of Afghani people here, IDPs, we have sorted ration for 1000 families there. There should be a plan so that all NGOs can get on the same page and worth together.

"All organizations including departments should come forward to contribute, it shouldn't be just PCB. Everyone needs to help others. Giving in charity doesn't reduce wealth, it increases it. If your intention is right and not for show, Allah automatically increases the blessings from it.

"Economy wise, we know where we stand. We need all the financially strong people to stand up. They have earned a lot from this country and Allah has given them a lot. They need to come forward and work and help others.

"A lot of cricketers have helped, from India Yuvi and Bhajji supported us and cricketers, celebrities, film stars have helped us. Some players who I won't name also helped us. Pakistan is our land and we have to help each other and contribute.

"I would like to request all celebrities who have been financially blessed that this is not just my foundation, it's everyone's foundation. Support us.

"Labourers are very important and we have to help them otherwise this will be a bigger problem than corona. I want Imran bhai to get in touch with all the leaders, sit them at a table and have tea and food with them and tell them they all need to work together. There is no 'me' in this, everyone has to do it together. It's everyone's issue. Everyone needs to focus on their own communities and areas. All MNAs and MPAs need to be given plans. Nothing is too difficult. Imran bhai and the govt. has a very important role in this, to forget everything in the past and find a solution. But we need a solid plan for this.

"We all have to get behind the PM and do what we can for this country. OK it may not be for his sake but we need to do it for the country. Take the example of Hazrat Umar and the Madinah state and follow their ways.

"Shoaib Akhtar said something positive for humanity (regarding proposal for India-Pakistan matches to raise money), I am shocked at Kapil Dev's reply (that India doesn't need to do any fundraising). I have seen many videos from India where people are eating food from the garbage and eating it. So he shouldn't have said something like this. I respect him a lot.

"Yuvi is doing great work, he is working hard for people, for children and my support will always be with him and I would like to request India's people to support his excellent cause, he is working for humanity. He has been given a name and has achieved a lot for India, now if he wants to give back and help people then they should support him.

(Would you like to join Tiger Force) "My foundation and myself, we are a force. We have all your support. If Imran bhai and the govt. want to utilize our services, we are ready to work with any party for the betterment of the country.

"I would like to thank Yuvi and Harbhajan for supporting my cause, Harbhajan also supported a cause of mine in Bahrain. When I was in Canada, I went to support Yuvraj's foundation and announced 10,000 dollars for it. Everyone in Pakistan supported me and no one said anything that why did you do that, why are you supporting India.

"It's a matter of humanity. Allah will forgive many things but he won't forgive us if we don't have humanity. The Prophet (PBUH) taught us this also, that we have to help people in tough times. The work we're doing in Sindh, 54% of the people we're helping are Hindus. We had a food drive in Karachi for the Hindu community, even Aga Khanis, Ismailis, Christians in Karachi and we will keep helping these people.

(Indian media saying Pakistan is sending coronavirus patients to India via Nepal) "I believe that if your intentions are bad about someone then Allah is sitting there, Allah won't look at whether you're a Muslim or not. So this is just 'ghatiya, fazool soch' (disgusting and depraved thinking)."

People in India eating from bins
That's still going to happen even if shoaib akhtar and shahid afridi go to India just like they did in Deccan in 2008

Kapil Dev responded to Shoaib Akhtar's proposal for a 3-match ODI series between India and Pakistan, saying it's not worth taking a risk in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

"He is entitled to his opinion but we don't need to raise the money. We have enough"

This is the part that people have been responding to.

I think the statement has been blown a bit out of proportion though, he didn't mean it in that way (that everything is fine and nobody needs help). Kapil usually seems like a sensible person, this statement was more aimed at telling politicians and authorities to stop with their blame game.

If you take the response to Kapil Dev's remark out of it, the rest of the speech was very heartwarming. Seems like Shahid and his foundation are doing some sterling work.

Kapil Dev needs to answer. Nobody asked his opinion in the first place but what he said is inexcusable given the current state of the world. As a role model he is expected to promote peace and positivity rather than making arrogant comments like ‘we don’t need money’.

Money is needed in Ind, just as much as in PK. I think the Ind elite live in some fantasy world, where they believe their own press.

Idk why indians say they don't need money, we see so many charities in America raising money for india.

If you need money then you should stop activities at border: Kapil Dev

NEW DELHI: Former India skipper Kapil Dev was pulled up by former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi after he turned down Shoaib Akhtar's proposal for a India-Pakistan series to raise funds to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

But Kapil has made it clear that he still stands his ground.

"You could be emotional and say that yes, India and Pakistan should play matches. Playing matches is not a priority at the moment. If you need the money then you should stop the activities at the border. The money which will be spent can be used to build hospitals and schools. If we really need money than we have so many religious organizations, they should come forward. It is their responsibility. We offer so much money when we visit the religious shrines, so they should help the government," he told Sports Tak.

In fact, he wants everyone to look at the larger picture and not even think about cricket at present.

"I am looking at the larger picture. Do you think cricket is the only issue we can talk about? I am rather worried about the children who are not being able to go to schools and colleges because that is our young generation. So, I want schools to reopen first. Cricket, football will happen eventually," he said.

Afridi had earlier said: "The entire world is fighting against coronavirus and we need unity in our region to defeat this common enemy. Such negative comments don't help at all. I don't see anything wrong with Shoaib Akhtar's suggestion for Pakistan and India to play cricket.

"Kapil's reaction has surprised me. I expected better from him and feel one should not talk like this in these crisis times. Sport is supposed to bring people together and build bridges. It is pretty disappointing," he said.
