What's new

Not been this excited about a Pakistani player for a long time......

Leg break bowlers are always exciting talents. Shadab has all the tools, hopefully he keeps on improving

And then people like Imran Khan go talent is not getting a chance to perform in the PSL... we are investing in foreign players instead of that... look at this guy, if anyone knew what this guy was capable of before the PSL please raise your hand...

The credit of this only goes to PSL.. its the brand thats bringing our identity back to our cricket.. what an aggressive little lad, full of energy and a bag full of tricks

This lad was doing well, long before the PSL. He was on A tours to England and Zimbabwe.

Wrong to think it was the PSL that made him

Saw his wickets (Highlights) in last two matches, looked very confident and surprisingly very accurate, would be interesting to see how he copes up on flat pitches but dangerous bowler indeed and yes defn looks very exciting.

Shah is not making it back to LOI that's for sure now.

Was ordinary on the England tour and performed OK against the Zimbabwe. Psl had a big role to play in making him

PSL brought him to the attention of people who don't know much about Pakistan cricket.

Having a promising leg spinner is awesome news for world cricket. There is a resurgende of wrist spin talent now all over the world.

A tours are not much followed these days because of too much cricket. He had a fantastic FC match against almost full ZIM team (I think scored a hundred & took 9 wickets), which is outstanding for a teen aged leggi. That actually brought him to PSL, otherwise I don't think ISLU management would have tried him at the start of PSL. In PAK, capability isn't measured at nets, rather measured through reputation & age (experience). His team mate is equally exciting, probably even more considering he can be a fast medium all rounder who can bat in top 3 - he had to wait till 7th match & after 2 senior players got banned & their replacement couldn't total scores in 3 innings equal to his age.

Obviously, talented kids will fast track, if they can play at highly competitive matches with higher skilled players.

I have been following the A tours. Incidentally I was in UK when our A team toured England. His performance both with the bat and ball wasnt that good. Apart from that odd game against Zim that you mentioned his performance was not that good. Infact he was below the pecking order amongst the promising leggies in the country being preceeded by Mir, Shahzaib and Karamat

He was just 17 in UK, a place never conducive to leg spin. His only FC was probably in ZIM. Heis in the ageof fast learning.

No, he played an unofficial Test against SL A. Also played four limited over games. His best figures were 4/100 odd against SL A

He was not picked for first game in second he picked a 4 fer when the game was heading to a draw and also scored 60 plus batting with the tail was one of the match winners in that game not sure how he did in list A

But for him to even be in the Pakistan A squad means he was already on the radar.
Saj bhai not doubting your credibility one bit, you've been tracing down talent long before they become mainstream. What I was referring to was how PSL was crucial in his development, the dressing room exposure he got standing alongside legends like Wasim Akram, Dean Jones, to playing under the current test team captain Misbah ul Haq is a big deal... not only that getting International level players wickets.. prize scalps during the PSL of big names.. this is irreplaceable in terms of development for an 18 year old...the broadcast standard and following of A tours will never be as much as that of PSL.. so for a player to be the standout find of a tournament is a big plus on his CV

I might have exaggerated in saying if anyone knew about him before PSL.. (due to my lack of knowledge of A tours)

Someone like Imran Khan is undermining the contributions of these leagues, when he himself boasts about the Kerry Packer series he participated in

The PSL gave him the exposure, the audience, the chance to play alongside and against some very good players - no doubt about it.

However this lad has played Under 16s, played Under 19s for Pakistan including a World Cup, played for Pakistan A, so for some to say he was discovered by the PSL is absurd.

Al most correct, with a footnote. WSC DIDN'T FIND THE BOWLER OR ALL-ROUNDER IMRAN KHAN, WSC, MADE THE GREATEST FAST BOWLING ALL-ROUNDER IMRAN KHAN.

Imran was picked to represent WSC World XI, in 1977, after arguably bowling the best ever Test in Australia - 12/160 against Ian Chappel's team, which was No. 1 at that moment by some margin. Then he went to WI & took 26 wickets in 5 Test, against what was the start of a dynasty - Lloyd's WI.

T20 tournaments doesn't find players, neither teach them cricket. Only contribution is, it might fast track few youngsters.

Imran Khan himself has said, him playing with the big names of his era... just like it takes place in the IPL, brought a new dimension to his cricketing passion... if only young players were developed in the t20 leagues, established players won't be participating in t20 leagues around the world right now (along with the monetary benefits, which were there in the Kerry Packer series as well)

Ofcourse Imran always is one of those old men who has everything nice to say about his era, but doesnot appreciate anything that takes place in modern cricket...

Point I'm trying to make is these leagues are a win:win if you are a youngsters, or an International great plying your trade... getting new exposure in different places

Also I'd like to reiterate what I'm saying here, if anyone thought Shadab would be the 'find of the tournament' in the PSL, would excite everyone like no other, I think that would be quite a pick considering the number of youngsters that were playing this time... there are some very good performers besides Shadab, but he stood out because of his passion and fire that he showed to make it big.. (along with his performances ofcourse, which were match changing to say the least)
