What's new

Not even seen one ball bowled at the IPL

Don't have the time because of school but will after finals, cricket is cricket and IPL has proper quality and entertainment.

Supporting SRH

So it has ended. Sadly didn't manage to see any of it. Oh well, there's always next year! How was it for you, great entertainment or damp squib?

Looks like you didn’t go on cricket websites too for the past 2 months. That’s interesting.

Anyway IPL this year was better than all previous versions. Huge hit. CSK won the title.

I watched highlights of a few games. Didn’t watch any live action though. Wanted SRH to win because of Kane.

Some posters: “I do not watch a single match of IPL but quality of cricket in PSL is much better than IPL”. How do you trust these drama queens?

This year's IPL was one of the most exciting and entertaining seasons in the past 10 years. I thoroughly enjoyed every single match and there were hardly any boring or one sided matches except one or two. I see that IPL is only getting stronger and more competitive by every passing year and there might come a day in future where IPL will become the major sporting event in England and USA too. I miss IPL already and can't wait to see the clash between the Best vs Best yet again in 2019!! More excited than the World Cup event.

This thread was posted out of insecurity. IPL is the best T20 league in the country.

I am not sure what is there to brag about. Many fans don't even watch even a single ball in international cricket unless their team is involved. Only hardcore cricket fans watch all kind of cricket. I did not watch even a single ball of first test between Pakistan and England. But i did follow the result. Having said that as an IPL cricket critic for a long time, i got hooked on eventually. This season it was so good.

True that. By far the most entertaining season by some distance. Lot of big hitting. This was the first time i had paid subscription.

Any exciting talented kids unearthed by IPL this year?

Loss was yours mate. Nobody even noticed!
I noticed it when I heard Virat Kohli injured his neck while playing in a Pyjama League match. You know what if he doesn't get fit in time and doesn't perform this time in England as well loss will be ours.

Same observation. Few of my Pak friends subscribed it for last four consecutive years, they always wish Pak players could participate, it makes them feel like they enjoy cricket at home (Pak)

cannot watch a league which discriminates based on nationality; sorry

Any exciting talented kids unearthed by IPL this year?

Why does any tournament have to unearth new exciting talented kid? Why not star players performing against each other? Will that make the tournament bad or unwatchable?

Btw yes quite a few young talented kids show cased their talent. Without IPL I would have not got a chance to see them show casing their skills and playing in front of huge crowd. I enjoyed watching them. If you have not seen it, good for you. Don’t have to keep telling us that you hate this tournament. We got your point.

That was a simple question. Let me try once again. Any exciting new talent from IPL this year?

Not interested in your gibberish. If there are some exciting new talent please tell their names otherwise just say no.

Dont be so burnt out brother, I hope all the leagues become equally successful.

Lol. You asked me a question and I was trying to help you with info, now you are being rude and asking me to help you again? Dude, are you serious?

If you need to be educated on this too, then I would prefer to discuss cricket related issues with someone who has little knowledge about cricket.

:) he wants to learn something but he does not know how to ask politely.

Would love the Indians to actually accept this but they’ve never gained the courage to say it as it is.

Always makes me chuckle when they used to say “but its the franchises who don’t wanna buy Pakistanis because they’re unsure the players will get a visa or not”

Not sure what has this got to do with other Pyjama Leagues? I am an Indian so I will look forward to exciting new talents coming from our own Pyjama League.

Yeah I can see your international cricket related knowledge and cricket schedule awareness outside IPL.

For someone who does not care about IPL, you cared enough to show others how much you did not care by making this thread. Good job! :19:

Thanks my pleasure. However, the credit should go to someone else too. I made an off the cuff remark to MenInG that I hadn't seen any of this year's IPL. Cue thread idea, hope you don't mind MiG bhai. :akhtar

Lacks true jazba like the PSL. Also doesn’t unearth talented players. Last I saw was Shilpa Shetty in 2010 with a shovel digging out something that looked like Vinay Kumar’s arm. I’m going to skip it this year.

Can’t wait for the most exciting league though. Samit Patel, Darren Ganga, Denesh Ramdin, no other league brings all top class players together in UAE.

Well, it's back! Bigger, brighter and badder than ever! It's due to kick off soon, but I wouldn't have known if I hadn't just seen the BBC proudly announcing they'll be covering ball-by-ball commentary this year. So instead of seeing even ball being bowled, I may catch a glimpse of some text commentary.

Now before, anyone gets offended, my apathy towards IPL is not because I despise it or anything. It's just that I have a lack of interest in it, I'm not sure which channel it would be showing on, it's probably a paid one which I don't sub to and obviously there is the ban on Pak players. However, I may try to catch a glimpse of it which I didn't do last year.

So who's gearing up to watch, frothing at the mouth with anticipation, a plate of nachos and soda at the ready? :ashwin

T20 leagues are the worst standard of cricket. I dont take huge interest in the game but i dont entirely boycot IPL either. IPL does indeed bring the very best in the game under one roof. I am interested to see which of the top players can steer their team towarss ghe trophy and how some of our young talents perform.

Will be keeping an eye on Oshane Thomas, Jos Butler, Ashton Turner.

Will be tracking performance of Shubhman Gill and Rishabh Pant. They need to be in the world cup squad.

Attending IPL games is kinda cool. I have already booked my tickets for the Delhi v KKR game.

There is public screening at all bars and lounges too. So chilling with buddies having a few beers in the summer catching IPL action on TV is a good experience.

Cricket does indeed bring us all together.

Same as every other year, didn't watch a single over of the PSL nor do I envisage watching the IPL. It's just not my bag.

I last saw the IPL in 2008. Back when Franchize t20 was a new and fresh concept
How are the Deccan Chargers doing by the way?

They don't exist anymore.

The city is still in the league by another franchise name The Sunrisers Hyderabad and they are a damn good team. Played the final last year. Lost to Chennai.

SRH has everything covered. Top order, Bowlers who can choke you, just need middle order to click (even though they have good middle order batsmen). Panday was selfish last year, big time!

Oh, didn't know who won last year. So who are the favourites this year?

I see it its coming back.

But nah, not for me since it has a ban on the Pak players just for being from that country.

Gotta respect our fellow Indians who support any League while knowing there cricketers are not there, unlike us who need Pakistani players to be in that League to enjoy it.

I really didn't know this thread existed, lol count me in as well haven't seen any of it ever.

However, I feel IPL is more for domestic consumption same like PSL and other leagues so foreign consumption would be preferred but would not be a requirement for the league's financial structure.

I watched the 2008 one with full enthusiasm. Supported rajistan royals as i was a big fan of sohail tanveer. Also loved watching shoaib play at kkr. I still remember that kkr vs delhi match where shoaib caused havoc and srk went crazy..

After that how these indians discriminated Pakistan, i dont even bother to tune into their league.

I have seen these same people cry or find ways to claim of being victims of discrimination in the west.

It's not quite that is it? No one would have a problem if Pak players went unsold, but there is a complete blanket ban.

The Indians are bringing their politics into it even though a mingling of players helps to bring a thaw in relations especially amongst the Indian public who at the moment have been brain washed with hate.

And of course, Indian players are also welcome to play in PSL if they so wished, they've never been banned, its just that BCCI don't allow them play in other leagues.

IPL made internet history by reaching 5.5M concurrent viewers in match 5. To put the 5.5M concurrent viewers of IPL in perspective, most live-streamed Superbowl game peaked at 3.1M concurrent streams

These are the numbers just over web through official streams and doesn't account for TV viewers.

because people in western countries watch on live TV with 4k quality.

its just the expats indian who are watching online as they dont have much better to do on weekends

From what I can remember, didn't the PCB ban their players from the IPL? Either ban or refused NOC.

Firstly do you know who started the whole denying NOC for Pakistan players?

If you know the answer to that

Now tell me why would a league which has billions of dollars at stake risk filling their teams with players who potentially might be recalled or unavailable due to political sensitivity?

On top of that, recently didn’t Pakistan reject the idea of trade with India till Kashmir is resolved?

So IPL contracts or Pakistani artists making money are more important than Sugar, tomatoes and wheat?

Let me speak for myself as a cricket fan. If Pakistani players are allowed it will definitely add to the league because Pakistan has some quality T20 cricketers.

I know you realize it is purely political right but you do realize it is not a one sided thing here right?

I understand it’s your frustration to see your fav players in the biggest league in the world but it is what it is due to political climate. No amount of whining and complaining will change that.

2.5 billion dollars for 5 years tv rights . Imagine if OP was watching IPL...3 billion was guaranteed.
BCCI lost out on lot of money eh?:trump2

As an Indian, I don't really watch T20 cricket, IPL or internationals. I follow the auction though as it throws up interesting names and scenarios and I specifically those games/ phases where a particular batsman/ bowler who I think is the future is playing. Also tuned in to watch PSL for the first time a couple of days back to see Dahani bowl..

I watched IPL up to the point of season 3 i think. Saw most of the live matches at that time. But then only followed season 7 or 8 through IPL's app watching highlights. My brother in law still follows it.

Tbh we barely get time to watch PSL. School days gave you a lot of time. But the work life *Sigh*

have never seen a complete over since the 1st addition (when Pakistani players were playing)

dont care abt it ... doesnt matter to either me or the IPL lol but still

Its not huge amount of money considering there are about 1.3billion people in India (officially) and cricket being their No.1 sport. Even if 10% tune in every now and then money will be made back with profit.

I have not watched IPL for the last 4 years simply been too busy and have no appetite for cheap entertainment. I dont even get time to watch Pakistan play all the time, even did not watch all matches of last T20 WC.

'I have not watched IPL and I want to tell the world about it' - lol

I don't watch super bowl, I wish I can just go around telling people, 'Hey, I didn't watch a minute of super bowl'

Come to think of it 'I have not watched this year's WWE Royal Rumble' - Hey there world, I skipped watching 'Royal Rumble XIVIVIV'.

Feel so relived strangers in internet now know I haven't watched 'name any tournament you hate here'.

Okay, it's started up again. So who's been enjoying the first couple of days?

Okay, it's started up again. So who's been enjoying the first couple of days?

Not me.
Never felt any attraction or need to watch IPL.
Too much fake and shallow hype with little content.

I guess a few years ago I did search a Robin Uthappa’s innings on YT as I heard he had scored some good runs (and him being the most stylish Indian batsman, IMO) but never bothered to actually click any of the YT fetched results.
