The toss wasn't a factor yesterday because THERE WAS NO DEW.

1. No Hafeez vs Warner in the 4th over, once Finch was gone

Huge mistake not giving the ball straight away to Hafeez, once Finch had departed.

Instead Babar played into Aus's hand by giving Imad another over and making a critical mistake of bowling Imad vs Warner - horrible matchup.

Hafeez did have a mishap once, but he came back strongly with only 6 runs given in the next 5 balls and Warner was struggling to get after him.

Marsh isn't a good starter against spin either, so it was the best move to make.

2. Not enough spin

Aside from that Warner vs Imad battle, Imad bowled really well to Marsh, Maxwell and Stoinis.

Imad should have bowled his full 4 overs and Hafeez should have been brought on earlier.

Also, the Aussie batters were allowed to start against pace instead of spin, which they struggle against.

3. Giving Hassan 4 overs - INSANITY

No way would any thinking captain or management would have allowed Hassan Ali to bowl 4 overs again, despite being woeful throughout the whole campaign (incl. the warm ups) - INSANITY!!

Those 3 blunders cost Pak more than the actual dropped catch and toss!

Agree with all 3 points. Seems like Babar had a set template and he didnt want to budge from it. He is a young captain and will learn from this though

Babar's captaincy was at fault. Clear fault, he was too animated instead of doing anything. But people like to make scapegoats and for them its going to be Hasan Ali.

Our fielding was top class. The catches held by Asif, Fakhar and Harris were under tremendous pressure.

Hasan Ali was nerve wrecked after bowling very badly. Babar should had not given him the over, but problem is Babar is also that cricketer that believes oh jee spinner ko akhri over nahi..

You make a goodpoint on Hafeez. Except for that one bad ball, Hafeez not only bowled a 6 run over, but his bowling was very very good.

As for Hasan Ali, he has been our best fielder through out. This was before yesterdays match

Toss was the biggest factor! it gets easier and easier to bat and even without the dropped catch it looked like only a matter of time either of the two batmen will find the boundary. Both wade and Stonis played well but they are not the type of batsmen you will usually associate with 80 run not out partnership @ 12 an hour

People's still don't know how important is toss in this world cup . Chasing under light is easiest thing ,ball came nicely on the bat and most of the match dew factors also came .

It only gets easier because of dew, but there was none yesterday.

Basically, no excuse of a wet ball.

There was no dew yesterday.

Also, lights were on the whole game.

I had pointed out before the Semifinal that Babar underbowls his spinners even when they are the ones that are keeping runs in check. He has done that in all games, and yes he has a template no matter what last 6 or 7 overs have to be pacers even if one or two being hammered. In UAE spinners are harder to hit.

Same Australian team was bundled out 85 odd runs against England when they bat first .more than 95% match won by batting second amongst top team in this world cup .Toss made huge huge difference if you still don't understand they it's up to you.

Tbh Pakistan had the game at 93/5 but Hassan Ali had different ideas

Plus Mathew Wade played an innings of a lifetime!

If you don't trust your main bowler to bowl in PP, he shouldn't picked. This is where Babar went wrong, he chose Haris over Hasan, a clear indication that he didn't trust Hasan. WHY PICK HIM ?

A bowler who had a horrible run throughout the tournament, Babar didn't have a backup plan for him .
Why gave him 4 overs ?

Little things are quite big in pressure situation.

Captaincy did fail in this match so it's time to learn from this going forward.

Aus made 125 odd.

Also, was there dew later on?

In this game there was no dew, so the conditions were the same throughout.

Did you see the Pak vs Afg game?

There was no dew in that one either and it was helpful for the spinners.

We'll been saying this in various threads.

If you look at Hafeez, he actually bowled decently to Warner too. Apart from the first two deliveries ofcourse. The next five (minus the no ball) went for just three singles and Warner was playing them off middle stump which was dangerous.

Hafeez should definitely have been given a second over.

Also, with the ball swinging in the first over, the second over should have been bowled by Hasan Ali who, even though off form, has been able to bowl the away swingers. It was a question of Imad, who has been pathetic against Warner, vs Hasan Ali who would at least have found some swing.

We definitely threw this game away due to inflexibility. Just went with the set plans without taking conditions and the batsmen which were occupying the crease at the time. Another case in point, both Stoinis and Wade at the crease, looking awful against Shadab and both preferring pace, this was the time to introduce Imad or Hafeez back in to the attack.

I must say Babar is not captain material, heck even folk @ KK know that , agree with op plus not using squad players during the 2 dead rubbers was criminal & to say a player is undroppable was another blunder , should have chosen better words to back his team mate. Finally this Dosti nibhana culture has to end , Hassan needs a break from T20 as he’s been amazing in tests & should concentrate on that

Agreed.

Just a shame there was no flexibility or thinking going on.

Lol no. Pakistan got their tactics and match-ups spot on given the players you have. Throughout the tournament, Pakistan have absolutely nailed their tactics. You need better, mentally tough personnel to do any better than this.

Babar and Riz played 86 balls and scored 106 runs total. I guess some 15+ could have been scored more. But yeah that's in hindsight.

What I wonder is no one blaming Afridi. The guy literally bowled 4 balls back to back in slot including full toss.
He was lucky to get away with 3rd ball when Wade played early and mistimed. People blaming Hasan for dropping but that ball was right there for a lefty to dispatch. Not to mention next three balls.

No dew?
Ha!

Did you even watch the game?
If not, check how many times Baber and other Pak players used hand towels to try to dry the ball.

Shaheen swung only in the first over as the ball was dry n light and then zilch

Australian players themselves said yhere wasnt any dew

“Matchups” seems to be the new buzzword in cricket. It is the flavor of the month.

Everyone seems to be using this and it appears that it was invented during this World T20. I wonder who the culprit is.

There are no matchups in cricket. This game is not played on computer simulation. Things do not always pan out according to combinations. You have to adjust in the heat of the moment and react accordingly.

100% agree. Look at New Zealand’s game. They did not bowl there best spinner because of a bad matchup.

Seems to be plan A and little else

Only if you had used your eyes instead and WATCHED pak players using hand towels to dry up the ball, would tell you that Australian are BSing to take full credit.

Oh, I know your counter, "Pak players doing it for show off".

I'd like to see some clips of them wiping the ball because there wasn't any instance where they were wiping the ball.

Not everyday there is dew, did you watch the Pak vs afg game?

No it made the big difference. It so obvious if Pakistan batted 2nd they would have won the game.

Because of the toss, Pak lost from a position of 103-5 after 13 overs?

That is absolutely ridiculous!

The toss didn't say you can't get another wicket or stop them from scoring 74 with the tail to follow.

With Australia at 93/5, Pakistan had one foot in the final. The issue is the boys also started believing that and I feel dropped their intensity.

Then Hasan Ali who has been playing for the opposition the entire tournament decided to take matters in his own hand and lift Australia to the final. Amazing.... 21 gun salute for the mujahid. Should play for 2 more decades.

Again, the australian players and captain themselves are saying that there wasnt even dew.

When they themselves have said, you will keep arguing just for the sake.
