NZ TV commentator, Scotty Stevenson, makes a remark about Mohammad Amir and fixing on air

Guys, can we just ignore whatever this Scotty Stevenson says. He is a Rugby Commentator, and this year is the first-ever time he is a cricket commentator, so he barely knows anything about cricket.

I personally don't really see the point of him commentating cricket but Spark sport are probably paying him a lot of money since they poached him from Sky Sport rugby so they have to put him to work.

Commentary aside he is actually a very approachable person. He interacted with Pak fans on twitter straight after the days play to clarify what he meant by the remarks.

I think people are trying to find something in nothing, I don't think it was an Amir reference.

Talk about mountain out of a molehill. An embarrassing level of attention and energy being wasted on a bad joke about Nasim's age. Grow up guys, you're making us all look bad.

That could be because their crimes aren’t comparable. Amir was convicted of spot fixing which is bad but it is not at the level of manipulating and throwing away matches which is what Cairns/Vincent have been accused off.

Amir was also very young which is why the public was quick to forgive him, Butt/Asif have been largely shunned by the fans.

Sure, whatever helps you justify the difference. Pakistan even had a justice qayyam report in late 90s implicating not-so-young players of Pakistan in match not-spot fixing, yet they never lost their rockstars' status. I am sure you would have a justification for that as well.

Hey just to mention that New Zealand aren't whiter than white when it comes to players involved in corrupt activities.

Lou Vincent and Chris Cairns spring to mind.

NZ ground staff have been guilty of publicly taunting Amir in the past also.

If you remember clearly, it was New Zealand who went the extra mile in humiliating Australia for the Sandpaper scandal, they went nuts on social media and the news.

Bunch of DHs if I’m honest, they have a terrible history of corruption themselves which is often overlooked

New Zealand are happy within their own conditions and can be so, but when they tour Pakistan in 2021 or whenever, the story will change.

There is a level of respect that you show to a visiting team, and frankly, New Zealanders think that they are on top of everyone else.

Can't wait for them to tour the subcontinent and get manhandled.

Sure but for what it’s worth they were banned to be involved in any cricketing activity at any level for fixing in counties or the defunct ICL which wasn’t even recognized.

Had they been given a red carpet welcome then yes they would have been hypocrites.

Personally no issues with Amir getting a 2nd chance, I was always supportive of it but you can’t blame others for pointing things out, it exists and Amir has to live with it. Simple.

I thought it was clearly the latter. An low-hanging-fruite joke about Naseem's fake age.

Yeah that's what I thought too. The australian commentators kept emphasizing his age when Pakistan toured there also. Back in the day, I remember mike haysman making fun of waqar's age. Heck , I think even Wasim made fun of Waqars age recently on sky sports.

I have seen Wasim make fun of Waqar’s age on interviews even on Indian shows. If they have that rapport that’s fine, if Waqar is uncomfortable with it then it is uncalled for. Afridi on the other hand seems to have that self deprecating humor when it comes to age and takes it sportingly.

As I said, New Zealand isn't clean when it comes to fixing.

I'm not sure where the red carpet welcome is from. He performed in domestic and was picked. No rose petal welcome or garlands as far as I can recall.

Fair enough. I am not disagreeing with your statement, however you can’t control the behavior of individuals. Criminal mentality exists everywhere, however they have a good system that weeds out corrupt people.

If you want me to bring equivalence here, I don’t want Azharuddin anywhere near cricket administration or A.Jadeja giving his smug holier than thou analysis on cricket channels either.

All I am saying is these guys have a lower tolerance for corruption than we do in our part of the world and that’s were the high more ground comes from and to some extent justifiably so.
