I am not clinically diagnosed with OCD but I think that I have it. I believe I have serious case of OCD and I end up wasting a lot of time because of it.

Do you have OCD? If yes, how do you cope with it?

Just found about the term. Felt like I was reading my life story.
I am making sure to be adamant in not succumbing.
No other choice.

Very old thread. I made this thread 3 years ago. Nobody responded.

Anyway. My OCD issue has improved; alhamdulillah.

I think exposure therapy works. You have to face your fear sometimes.

My brother had/has OCD. It got really bad a couple of years ago. There are different types of OCD, the one my brother had forced him to wash his hands and everything around him constantly. Even the smallest touch made him uncomfortable. Everyone had to change their habits and behavior to accommodate his OCD, It really disturbed the whole family. Thankfully he seems to be over it to a large extent now.

We didn't have a doctor or therapist treat him because he refused. Anyone that has OCD needs to occupy themselves with something to take their mode off their urges. I think scientifically OCD happens due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Don't take that as fact because I'm no expert.

The thing is I believe it was mild. But leaving family behind has made it worse.
I was an athiest and became religious. So obsessions are high.
Further my religion has many gods so take up lot of my time.
Fortunately it has not affected others uptill now.
Do you suggest I discuss with family or not??

I don’t think it is a mental illness.

I think it is a coping strategy for some sort of trauma.

I have “quirks” and occasionally become fixated on particular tasks, but not to the sort of extreme degree which would characterise OCD.

Glad to hear it.

I know little about this but Im the opposite generally.

Good to hear that you've gotten better.

It's very common and a lot of people have it to some degree. Some have mild obsessions/compulsions, some have it to an extent it hampers the quality of life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Exposure and Response Prevention) is very successful at treating it.
Some anti depressant drugs are also used to treat it.

I have seen people continually checking their blood pressure or pulse hoping that it is all good. That included me and it was hard to get out of that habit. You can call it as being a hypochondriac, but there is more to it.
