PM announces Rs80 cut in petroleum levy, lowering petrol price to Rs378 per litre

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a Rs80 per litre reduction in the petroleum levy on petrol, a day after prices were raised by Rs137 per litre, saying the move would bring the petrol price down to Rs378 per litre.

Addressing the nation in a late-night speech on Friday, the prime minister said he was speaking at a time when conflict in the Gulf had led to soaring fuel prices across the region, with a sharp increase in oil prices also affecting Pakistan.

Described the situation as a “harsh reality”, he said it was dimming the kitchen fires of the poor, creating immense difficulties for farmers, and posing new challenges for ordinary citizens.

He said the government had made every possible effort to utilise limited national resources to promote public welfare and reduce the difficulties faced by citizens. “Through careful savings and prudent use of resources, we tried to shield you from the storm of inflation,” he added.

The prime minister said that international oil prices had witnessed a massive increase, while inflation had also affected even the world’s strongest economies, adding that Pakistan was likewise being severely impacted.

“Over the past three weeks, I did not consider it appropriate to pass on the daily increase in oil prices to the public, as I am fully aware of the challenges faced by the common man in making ends meet,” he said.

All our esteemed posters were expressing glee at some random videos of queues at Indian petrol pumps or some LPG disruption videos.

Care to comment on this??
I dont see that the Pakistan government can do anything in this?? They are heavily reliant on fuel imports and IMF doesnt allow Pak to absorb costs like government. They dont have the refineries to process Venezuelan crude which is still 5-10$ cheaper or didnt make deals to process Iran crude may be due to US pressure.

@Bhaag Viru Bhaag This is what a fuel crisis looks like. Hopefully India can manage it well.

@finalfantasy7 care to comment on your own countries issue than scavenging news about Indian issues?😂

LPG Crisis Sparks Road Blockade In Dehradun, Authorities Struggle To Contain Public Anger - WATCH

Protests erupted in Dehradun over LPG shortages even as the Uttarakhand government rolled out a new SOP to streamline commercial gas distribution and boost supply.

Residents in Dehradun blocked the Shimla Bypass on Friday (April 3), protesting against the shortage of LPG cylinders and mounting daily hardships. The demonstration led to traffic disruption, with commuters stranded for hours. Police reached the spot and attempted to pacify the protestors while working to clear the blockade and restore normal movement. Locals alleged that repeated complaints over supply issues have gone unaddressed, triggering public anger.
India’s LPG imports dropped sharply in March, creating a big supply gap even as the US and Iran stepped in to help make up for some of the shortfall caused by the ongoing West Asia conflict.

This protest comes amid the Uttarakhand government introducing a revised Standard Operating Procedure for commercial LPG distribution to manage rising demand and maintain supply balance. Food and Civil Supplies Secretary Anand Swaroop, as per a TOI report, said the state secured an additional 6 percent quota for commercial LPG after promoting PNG. Combined with a 20 percent central allocation, the total commercial LPG quota has increased from 40 percent to 66 percent.

The new SOP aims to ensure transparent and priority-based distribution to avoid shortages in key sectors such as the Char Dham Yatra, tourism and industry. Oil marketing companies will supply gas based on market share while keeping District Magistrates informed. The daily distribution has been fixed at 6,310 cylinders across categories.
Hotels and resorts have been allocated 1,500 cylinders, while restaurants and dhabas will receive 2,000. Other allocations include 300 cylinders for government guest houses, 200 each for homestays, self-help groups and dairy units, and 1,250 cylinders for priority sectors such as pharmaceuticals and hospitals. District-wise, Dehradun accounts for the largest share at 31 percent, followed by Haridwar and Nainital at 13 percent each, with the rest distributed based on demand.
