On September 14, 2007, India defeated Pakistan through a bowl-out in a group stage match of the inaugural T20 World Cup.

The inaugural T20 World Cup was played in South Africa and this group stage match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan was played at Kingsmead, Durban.

The match between both the sides ended as a tie, and as a result, the game went into a bowl out, and India defeated Pakistan 3-0.

For India, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Robin Uthappa were able to hit the stumps while Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat all missed hitting the stumps.

In the normal match, MS Dhoni-led India batted first and was able to post a total of 141/9 in the allotted twenty overs.

Robin Uthappa and MS Dhoni starred with the bat after playing knocks of 50 and 33 respectively. For Pakistan, Mohammad Asif scalped four wickets.

Pakistan's chase never got off to a good start and the side found itself at 87/5. Misbah-ul-Haq played a knock of 53 runs, but in the final over, he was run-out and as a result, the match ended in a tie.

For India, Irfan Pathan scalped two wickets. This was the first time that MS Dhoni was leading India and he eventually took the side to the T20 World Cup win in 2007.

This was before I was a cricket fan, how do bowl-outs work? Are you able to bowl as normal? If so, how did NONE of the Pak bowlers hit the stumps? Embarrassing.

Gul and afridi did the bowl out from recollection

They came off fewer steps than normal and had no wicket keeper behind the stumps

India cleverly used dhoni to stand behind the stumps and aid the spinner to hit the stumps

It was a special win for us. Uthappa's 50 in that match is one of the underrated knocks of India's history. It was really top knock after the damage was done by Asif.

That was the beginning of the Indian era under MSD.

an ironic moment in cricket.. Pakistan.. a bowling team lost in a bowl out.. and out of all teams.. To India whose bowling was much maligned in the 90s.. a big lol..

India bowled with brains, short run-up and darted on to stumps. Pakistani bowlers bowled with a complete action and came running in like hawks, only to miss the stumps like parrots.

The bowl out is printed in my mind. It’s been 13 years gosh can’t believe. We were in our hostel and didn’t know whether to just celebrate what we were witnessing or laugh at Afridi and co’s comical effort.

This was Dhoni's debut match as a captain and he already outwitted the opposition. Pak bowlers were bowling at full run up where as Dhoni choose Bhajji and 2 part timers to just target the stump.

It was a fantastic tournament overall and a founding father of all modern T20 leagues we see today including IPL.

The bowl out became popular but actually the fact that India escaped with a tie from the jaws of defeat was way more spectacular.

It was a choke bigger than the final, Mohali, anything else.

real hero was jogindher sharma. Who the hell was he? where did he come from and just how?lol. so weird. What happened to him after?

Can remember watching this during iftari and having to explain to my Dad what a bowl out was.

Fourteen years ago, on this day, Team India kept their winning streak intact against arch rivals Pakistan in the World Cups in a thrilling encounter. The inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, when hosted in South Africa back in 2007, was a treat for players and fans alike as compared to the more serious formats of one-day internationals (ODIs) and Test matches.

The inaugural edition of the T20 internationals World Cup has fond memories for Indian fans. As a relatively inexperienced captain, MS Dhoni-led Team India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan through a bowl-out in a group stage match of the inaugural T20 World Cup, in Kingsmead, Durban. With both the sides scoring the same after the allotted 20 overs each, the match result was decided after a tense bowl-out. The Men in Blue defeated the Asian neighbours 3-0.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and restricted India to 141/9 runs at the end of 20 overs. Skipper Dhoni and Robin Uthappa starred with the bat after playing knocks of 33 and 50 runs respectively. Mohammed Asif was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, he scalped four wickets.

Pakistan’s chase never got off to a good start, as the Indian bowling unit kept the hopes alive, by keeping a tight length and not allowing the opponents take control of the match.

Misbah-ul-Haq top scored for Pakistan with 53 runs, but he was dismissed in the final over and the match ended in a tie.

Similar to a penalty shoot-out in football, the T20 format had bowl-out version in which sides make attempts at striking the wicket with no batsman in front of it. Team India’s Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Robin Uthappa hit stumps. While Pakistan’s Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi missed the target, resulting a 3-0 victory for the Men in Blue.

That was the day when the world started to admire the incredible cricketing mind of MS Dhoni.

Pakistan used regular bowlers who came in with their full run-ups, and Dhoni picked up random part-timers and stood right behind the stumps so that they could aim at him and hit the stumps easily.

This was the beginning of a new era for Indian cricket, and the first of many occasions where Dhoni would turn the game in India's favour with his unmatched thinking and understanding of the game.

Again the misbah effect. Match have easily won ,1 ball 1 run . Yuvi runout him. Misbah Played super innings but at the end match was tie. And it is dhoni's mastermind in bowl out.

Misbah was not entirely at fault here.

The whole team collapsed around him and he took us to a stage where we became favorites.

Yes, he bottled it at the last moment though.

Pakistan coach later said they did not know that a tie will decided by a bowl out. So hey did not practice at all :) :)
