This was the first test match in a series of 3 matches that would be played in Pakistan. Aside from Yasir Hameed, there were several other notable players that made their test debuts such as Mohammad Hafeez, Shabbir Ahmed, and Umar Gul.

Day 1 and the early phase of day 2 saw Bangladesh being restricted to a total of 288. Shabbir Ahmed was responsible for taking 3 wickets and gave Pakistan a strong start. The batting however collapsed as usual where Hafeez, Taufeeq Umar, and Inzamam were dismissed early on. The youngster, Yasir, came in and played some very elegant strokes to save Pakistan from a rather embarrassing collapse. He counterattacked the Bangladesh attack and drove Pakistan to a total of 346.

Habibul Bashar was the highlight of Bangaldesh's second innings as he scored his ton to give Pakistan a decent chase of 217. Yasir shinned once again as he got his second ton and along with Mohammad Hafeez's half century, guided Pakistan to a 7 wicket win. Pakistan would go on to whitewash Bangaldesh 3-0 in this test series.

Wow it's been 10 years. I remember going to my dads work during my school holidays and watching this.

2003-2005 there were high hopes for yasir hameed, but unfortunately they didn't transpire as hoped.

Wow! Was it a decade ago! I can´t believe either!

Remember watching one of the days' play live at National Stadium, Karachi with a cousin. Though the opposition was only Bangladesh, watching Shoaib Akhar run in at full flow was amazing.

this guy has to be the biggest batting disappointment for us since the start of 2000

OOH the fishermen.. he loved Bangla...
One of those pak batsmen that would bat @ a SR of 60 to 70 in ODIs... highly frustrated player he was to watch !

What an elegant stroke-player Yasir Hameed was; his drives were absolutely brilliant! It's a shame he had an annoying tendency to throw his wicket away after obtaining starts, often falling after producing short 20s/30s.

Hameed sucked, another minnow basher

I'm not sure how one can come to that conclusion, considering this was his record prior to his comeback in 2007:

He didn't perform brilliantly but I don't think he can possibly be labelled a minnow basher - he only played 3 Tests against Bangladesh in his whole career! Plus, he performed adequately against the respective sides of Australia and New Zealand (both on foreign soil) in Tests and was also able to acquire a score of 65 straight away upon his comeback, that too against South Africa at Centurion.

I really thought he could have been a great if he fixed his fishing outside the off stump habit...

did well for the first few years but then fell away

I still remember his cover drives. They were gorgeous to say the least.

the Bangladeshi team gave us too many false positives

oh ok, tbh the first time I saw him was 2010 tour to England, I just agreed with my dad cos he said he was a lulloo and just a fisher

I agree; I don't know why he was brought back for the 2010 tour in England, considering his failures during his international career in the past (as you say, a tendency to fish outside the off-stump).

14 years today, Yasir Hameed scored a century on debut.

Another one who didn't fulfill his talent.

I remember watching that live thinking we've finally found an opener for the next five years.

Sadly his fishing outside off-stump and struggles against likes of Irfan Pathan was to be his downfall.

Still think he could have been given a more consistent run in the mid 2000's. Was no superstar but made good 30's and 40's and was much more consistent than people like Farhat.

Was my fav player at the time..
I remember even Ganguly praising him.
His career was ended by weakness against spin. He was Kumble’s bunny..

And the fact that he couldn't play good swing bowling. Or fast bowling outside off. Or medium pace outside off.

An excellent player but then his form form declined.

I remember Yasir Hameed's debut Test. He looked so fluent. He scored two centuries in one Test.

It is a shame he was never consistent.

Still remember this guy. I feel bad for him as he promised so much! He, Butt, and Nazir are 3 talents which never fulfilled their promise. What could've been for Pakistan...

So much promise at start of his career - another one to add for Pakistan!

Underachieved.

He was a much better batsman than his numbers show and should have scored a lot more runs than he did.

And now we have Abid Ali and Imran Butt.....

He struggled against spinners. I remember Kumble getting the better of him a few times.

I really liked his style of batting.

Did he really tho? In tests he did nothing bar twin hundreds on debut and against the mighty bangladesh

He avges 30s in fc and list A cricket He was another player with technical and mental deficiencies who was exposed at the highest level

I recall watching him play some sumptuous cover drives against India in the Jeet Lo Dil series and thinking we have a next legend in place!
