It was seven years ago to the day that Pakistan cricket was in absolute turmoil as the PCB banned Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf 'indefinitely'; Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for a year each; and fined Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal.

No matter how many problems Pakistan cricket faces nowadays, it will be difficult to compare to the chaos of 2010. Truly one of the worst years in Pakistan cricket history.

probably one of the biggest setbacks in Pak cricket history, 2009 and 2010, horrible times

Ijaz Butt used to hand out life bans and show cause notices like toffee only to do his famous U-turns. In case some posters are too young to remember the Ijaz Butt era - this was the most unstable period in Pakistan cricket history. His media statements could confound even the most insane, aloof and illogical people.

This was a man who was reportedly asleep in one ICC meeting.

He accused England team of fixing after spot fixing scandal in 2010, saying there were "loud and clear talk in bookie circles".

Ijaz Butt even once said "Shane Warne should be hanged upside down" after he made a correct prediction about a World Cup match.

He boasted of delivering "mazaydaar gaaliya" to Lalit Modi, saying "galiyan khane ke baad jail chala gya". And who can forget this encounter:

What a character Ijaz Butt was. I don't think you can find another man like him in international sports administration.

The ICC even gave him a medal in 2010 in view of his services for the ICC and the game of cricket LOL.

Everyone who criticises and bemoans current Chairman Shahrayar Khan should pause and reflect at this thread.

Ijaz Butt wouldve horrified the Trump administration in his spectacular mismanagement. Thank God Twitter wasn't around in those days!

Dark days they were indeed...

Ijaz Butt should be charged with War crimes !!

2009-2010 will probably be the most horrific PCB administration era EVER.....but you know what I said the same thing during the Pybus/Miandad musical chair era as well and somehow PCB topped that almost a decade later; with PCB you can never really hit rock bottom and I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if we muck it up even worse than this somewhere in the future

We need to bring him back for 6 months to get rid of some of our TTFs. Current chairman is too polite to sack/drop anyone

Why was Rana Naved banned? Was it due to the Oath-gate scandal?

Also - why was Kamran Akmal fined? Yes I remember he dropped catches and missed a run out during the Sydney Test but poor on-field performance surely cannot constitute a fine.

One of the worst days ever.

Excessively harsh on YK IMO and MoYo (who although was a rubbish captain could not be helped responsible for that mess). Glad those bans were overturned quickly though.

Unfortunately - those bans ended the career of Naved Ul Hassan and Sami as well IMO.

Ijaz Butt was by far the worse chairman we ever had and makes SK look like a genius.

Never saw such gross mismanagement and decision making not to mention damaging relationships with other boards under his tenure.

As everyone here is accepting that he was the worst ever. I remember how many in media were appreciating the fact of a former cricketer being a cricket chairman when he was appointed in 2008. Many were advocating for his appointment even years before he was appointed.

I used to watch a lot of cricket shows back then and almost everybody was ecstatic on his appointment. They all were literally emphasizing how this is the best thing to happen in Pakistan cricket and now the first class structure will be improved along with the team reaching certain heights.

As it panned out, this guy is the worst PCB chairman I can remember of. Someone called him a buffoon too (I think Malcolm Speed). The only good thing his stubbornness did was breaking player power. During his tenure, every great was forced to bend down and eventually the player power no longer existed.

Make no mistake, this action caused the Spot Fixing scandal five months later.

The Sydney Test had already been fixed according to Mazhar Majeed, who confessed to fixing it.

But the "indefinite ban" on Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf deprived the team of its middle order, and led to them being dismissed for under 100 three times in four Tests against England.

In the circumstances, with the CEO having effectively lost the matches before the team even arrived in England, it was hardly surprising that the players turned to short-term enrichment plans.

I'm not justifying the fixing. I'm just explaining how the behaviour of Ijaz Butt incubated it.
