On This Day: March 16, 2007 - Herschelle Gibbs hits 6 sixes in a World Cup match against Netherlands

It was on March 16, 2007 that Herschelle Gibbs became the first and only player to smash six sixes in an over in the ODI format. Gibbs achieved this feat while playing against Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2007 in the West Indies. The South African batsman hammered the Dutch bowler Daan van Bungee when he was given the ball in the 30th over. Gibbs scored a 40-ball 72 including 4 fours and 7 sixes during the course of his innings to help South Africa score 353 at the cost of 3 wickets in 40 overs.
