I think we won the champions trophy in 2017 too but this is the moment for me. Absolutely cricketing gold.
 
Watching Azhar Ali throw his hat on the ground still makes me a smile after all this time.
 
Damn that moment. It was magical, unbelievable!

I already miss the ever reliable Younus Khan. I always loved watching him bat in Tests esp against the spinners.
 
I swear I was on the verge of tears and then proceeded to scream like a Maniac when Yasir got that final wicket. This game was freaking stressful !! :danish
 
Fantastic players both. Sad to see them retire but good that they left with a win in their last game.
 
I believed firmly we were doomed never to win a series in the WI.

Was home alone that day and preceded to scream at the top of my lungs when Gabriel had that brain fade.

One of the most exciting Test matches I have ever seen.

It was also Yasir Shah’s 25th wicket on his last ball of the series.
 
Thank God, finally. After losing to New Zeland and Australia 0-5, Misbah won against the test minnows and became a legend.

Younis should have played these 2 years too. His early retirement cost Pakistani test balance badly. Micky Arthur's monopoly is questionable on this decision.

Two years since two greats of the game have retired.

Pakistan is badly missing them.
 
Well done ! Misbah went out on a high and at the top. Truly deserved it. He also batted well and averaged 50 odd in that series .
 
Pakistan are still struggling to find middle order consistency and leader since these two left.

Mickey Arthur: I really don’t think there is anything I could have done to prevent them from retiring. And to be brutally honest, instead of looking at it that way, we should perhaps celebrate their careers. It was the right time for both of them to leave as I did feel that there was a lot of new young talent that needed to play in their place. But of course, in order to do that, we would have to go through a period that was going to be tough for us in terms of finding replacements for these two batsmen. All in all, it was the right time for them to go and we celebrated their careers beautifully. Both were legends and will always hold that place in the game. Younis Khan with over 10,000 runs to his name was quite the professional as well and to see both Misbah and him go together was tough for us.

However, what that meant was that we had the opportunity to back Babar Azam, and for guys like Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali to stand-up and be counted, and for Haris Sohail who I feel has phenomenal talent, to come into the team. I feel that Haris needs to get himself into the peak of his ability in terms of fitness but his skills are amazing. It was important that once Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan departed from the scene, these young players were given a chance to play and establish themselves for the sake of Pakistan cricket’s future.
 
West Indies couldn't hold their nerves.

It was a good win. Great way to finish career for Younis and Misbah.
 
Our glory days. What a great finish and farewell to our most successful Test captain and second best only to Imran Khan.

Just horrible and sad what minnows we became as soon as Misbah left.

Thankfully, the team is being rebuilt and we just won our last two Test series by total domination. More to come.

Not last two series, as the BD series is not completed. But your point is valid - the recent results have been dominant, albeit against BD and SL.
 
Still remember how sad I was for Misbah and Younis that they couldn’t finish on a high and then Yasir Shah’s over happened!

Man I remember that moment so distinctly... It was so tense and nerve wrecking and euphoric when Shah picked up that wicket. I was posting ball by ball on PP and iirc [MENTION=53290]Markhor[/MENTION] was proper bricking.


It has to be easily in the top 10 cricketing moments of the last decade.
 
I was just glad they finally left after hanging on for way too long past their sell by date. Anybody could have beaten this mediocre West Indies team.

But if its any consolation to Misbah fans, he's back to haunt us yet again. :misbah
 
My super loud scream is probably still echoing around in my room.
Still remember that night. There were murmurs that last over was not going to be bowled cause of bad light/rain. So that was the last ball of the match.
It was as fairytale as it could be.

Gabriel gets too much criticism for his attempt to slog. He probably thought it was the smartest thing to do given the way everyone was clustered around. Safest not to risk getting caught.

Great commentary from Fazeer Mohammed. It is a shame that we do not get to hear more from him as broadcasters seem intent on hiring former international players.
 
Beautiful memories, you don't always get such fairy tale endings in sport or in your career especially as a Pak cricketer; glad they got to leave on a high.

Considering how even the best Pakistani players go out in the most disappointing fashion, watching Misbah and Younis retire on top was wonderful to see.
 
It was a great Test series. Pakistan were the favourites and recorded a routine win in the First Test in Jamaica. West Indies and Shannon Gabriel bounced us out on an uneven pitch in Barbados in a seesawing Test.

The Dominica match itself was tedious for the first four days due to the slow pitch and outfield, but the match truly came alive on the fifth day and produced a nerve wracking ending when it seemed Pakistan would not get over the line, until Gabriel's moment of madness.

The Champions Trophy win came a month later, so it was a terrific summer for Pakistan cricket.

I don't think it was that bad, unlike the downfall of our ODI where we plummeted like a lead balloon once Misbah took charge.

We weren't outplayed on those UAE defeats and could have easily won both but Azhar did not know how close it out when we were so close to winning. We also drew in England which was a good result.

I wasn't so optimistic but clearly there were many who felt we would enter a golden era under Sarfraz, they said give him some time but all he did was spend time eating Korma Biryani's [MENTION=141557]Chief Destroyer[/MENTION]
 
Wonderful moment for misbah and younis khan and excellent from the west indies player who shook thier hands
 
I didn't enjoy this day because I felt Younis Khan was underappreciated for what he achieved for Pakistan cricket. Pakistan fans will realise this when they see Babar Azam retire with a sub-50 average in red ball cricket.

Misbah wasn't even half as good as him and was also an inferior captain.

Younis Khan was the captain and with his tactical nouse, the brain behind Pakistan's success in the 2009 WT20 win.

Younis Khan should have had a farewell test for himself.

Those six weeks in the summer of 2017 were incredible as a Pakistan cricket fan. Truly an emotional rollercoaster.

It took a few hours for the adrenaline to wear off after that final wicket.
 
Two stalwarts getting the perfect send off !
I remember the immense coverage cricinfo gave as well to the series and this specific test .

Shows the respect and adulation these two earnt in their careers .
 
Shannon Gabriel gave us that series right at the end.

One of the many epic test wins during that period.
 
Windies were a very mediocre side. Pakistan just made it hard for themselves to make it more unbelievable than it should have been.

Imagine Misbah lived a quiet life after that, maybe even his biggest critics would have warmed to him a bit. He’d have a much better legacy.

Looking at this beautiful moment though all these years later, I just feel like Misbah was a bit of an attention seeker, he had to retire with Younis didn’t he, couldn’t allow a personified ATG to have his moment, Misbah had to take it away from him, he wanted to sort of make it seem as though he was as big a player as Younis Khan and what he had done for Pakistan. The guy even got the players to pick him, I mean Misbah did ok, but did he deserve that special treatment?

Did he deserve to go out with Younis Khan?

I am not so sure. And knowing what Misbah is like now, I don’t think his intentions were pure.
 
What I hate more than anything else is to try and bracket Younis and misbah together.

Younis in an all time great and Misbah is a world class fraud

Had misbah never come back as a coach, no one would harrass him or attack him or clown him 24/7 on twitter.

He'd be remembered as an amazing test captain, and for odi his biggest fans could have run behind the excuse of not having PSL superstars which sarfraz's odi team had the luxury of aka fakhar etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still test misbah apart but his fans could hide behind a corner.

But as a coach, he sealed his fate and dug his own tombstone. His biggest defenders have to now deal with dozens and dozens of violent crowds all over twitter, or any social media in general. I don't think his biggest supporters on PP realise how cruel twitter folkes are to Misbah.

Theirs no more running behind psl or the excuse of misbah playing with a nothing team when

A) He decided to have a no 1 ranked t20 team lose almost every series constantly minus Zimbabwe even though we still lose a few games against Zimbabwe.

B) Have an iconic trio of kushdil shah, Asif Ali and Chacha as your lower order who were never even apart of the og t20 setup? No one knew who chacha even was? Asif Ali was mainstay but he had gotten booted 3 series ago? On what basis did he come back?

C) Have shehzad, Akmal and imam open? Again based of what? These 2 clowns were bang average in PSL? In fact a burnt out corpse of a kamran akmal did better then these 2 goobers?

D) and who told misbah to bring these faheem ashraf's, Nawaz lullei bazi into the t20 side? Faheem had been booted out? Nawaz wasn't even in the picture? He was in the picture for odi before being discarded? What basis did he become a reserve or replacement for imad?

Misbah was a clown coach, no offence. Sorry to all those who respect misbah. Theirs one thing praising him for salman butt fiasco, another praying him as your god and worshiping his shrine.

Red ball test cricket doesn't excuse anything. He can be torn apart as a coach and an white ball captain. Sorry boys.

Younis is overall not respected as much as he should be. Not just in Pakistan but across the world but I don't think this damaged his legacy or his exit at all. I mean Younis announced his retirement after Misbah announced his.
Younis maybe could have played on but there were rumours that Inzi told them it was time to move on.

I meant Misbah’s legacy, his behaviour after retirement doesn’t do him any favours. Even some casuals once said to me, they use to see him as a cool, calm, chill type guy, but after being coach the guy got drunk on power and lost his marbles

Misbah took revenge on his critics through the coaching stint, the best example is sending rookies to Australia and then justifying it by saying to us ‘Well you said I don’t pick young players didn’t you’.

Like what the hell dude 🤣🤣🤣

This just sums up who he is as a person to me it’s kinda hilarious but the man played with peoples futures and livelihoods due to his own pettiness and you’ve just summed it up in your post there.

Younis is overall not respected as much as he should be. Not just in Pakistan but across the world but I don't think this damaged his legacy or his exit at all. I mean Younis announced his retirement after Misbah announced his.

If I am not wrong, Misbah had given his resignation to Shahryar Khan after the dismal Tour to Australia but Shahryar refused and convinced him to play the series against WI. He announced he would retire after WI series before the squad departure. Younis had insisted he would like to play for an additional year or two if he would be made captain but Shahryar refused. Around the tour match just before the first test, Younis announced that he would bow out of international cricket as well after the series.
@Saj posted it back then as well that younis had pitched captaincy or retirement clause.
