Afridi said he doesn’t know about the current situation, but “students can study at home if the situation is really not conducive. This reporter contacted the cricketer talked to him on a WhatsApp call.

Former Pakistani team skipper Shahid Afridi Thursday asked the Kashmiri youth to "continue their education in every circumstance" and study at home if the education institutions continue to remain shut.

For those who are into cricketing career, Afridi said, if situation is not favourable for playing cricket in Kashmir, then I don’t have words to say anything.

Asked about any plans to visit Kashmir to meet the youth who admire him, Afridi said that, “ “In Sha Allah plan banega...jab waqt hoga... bilkul aayenge...Chakar lagayenge. (In Sha Allah there will be a plan, I will come. I will surely come one day to Kashmir.

“First Kashmir issue will have to be resolved. You people are struggling hard for freedom. Once Kashmir gets freedom, I will love to come there.”

Afridi said the present situation is not good in Kashmir. “Once everything turns normal. Kashmir issue will be solved. We will come definitely,” he said.

About any plans to extend Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) operations in Kashmir, he said, In future, we will definitely start working in Kashmir as well. We work for humanity. But as of now our focus is on my nearby areas of my native place where people need more assistance. We are working in these areas presently.

Afridi asks Kashmiri students not to shun studies

Says will love to visit Kashmir

Good message. Education is very important. Move away from militancy. There are so many online sources for education these days. You can even download these classes for viewing offline later.

This is a good message. Do everything you have to do, but not at the cost of studies. Babasaheb Ambedkar gave the same message to the oppressed class in India. To dress well and to study well.

Perhaps the Gandhi way to achieve independence is the only viable option.

I know many Indians don't seem to take pride in Gandhi as he would probably be seen as an appeaser of minorities by today's standards, but his ethics and non-violence protests still seem to have won more admiration from outside India than someone like say, Bal Thackeray who was far more aggressive.

Not sure about pride but some minorities backstabbed him so sympathy is obviously there.

We should develop Pakistan first and foremost. Priority at the moment is education, jobs and health care in Pakistan. When our own house is a mess it's silly to worry about something that is disputed. He can visit the current IoK if he is still alive when it becomes part of Pakistan.

It depends on the person tbh. Gandhi was far more popular than his equally charming but violent contemporaries like Bose. You cannot compare the popularity of the namesake Gandhis in the current political space with the original Gandhi. I am sure even you can spot the difference.

It says independent, not part of Pakistan. Also, he says the following

He most likely means independent of India. What I am saying is that we should not bring up Kashmir in everything. It is good that he is working on his "nearby area's" meaning KPK. He should work in other parts of the country before venturing in to what is IoK. This considering that many Kashmiris indeed want complete independence.

Which means never ever

That is ruthless and peaceful protests are the way to go. Disown violence and even then if the Indian government is brutal, you will have the support of the world. A single violent incident will derail the progress again.

Perhaps the Gandhi way to achieve independence is the only viable option.

What else has worked in modern history? Gandhi and MLK have proved and showed the path to the rest of the generations. Civil disobedience, protests are the way to go and will work only if they are peaceful. Like I said, there is not much pressure on the Indian government from UN because of militancy in Kashmir. Violence against a much bigger, stronger opponent will never work in the long term.

I know there arent many fans of Israel on PP but that is a very good model to follow for Kashmiris. If you all consider yourselves fighting for a common goal, realize one important aspect. The only way you can see eye to eye and garner support of international community is only if you are stronger. You can never have more weapons or better soldiers than Indian army. Make your community extremely productive like Israel did through education. Take advantage of India's growth and prosperity. If there is a Bangalore or Gurgaon why can't there be a Srinagar that's a hot bed of innovation and prosperity. That is the only way to be more influential.

Kashmir freedom aspirations are tied to Islam.

Kahsmiri Hindus do not want to be independent or join Pakistan. Its only Kashmiri Muslims that want to separate from India. All of this driven by Islam. No matter how much people tell you it is about Indian brutal military presence, the military would not exist if people were peaceful.

When the separatist movement is driven by religion, it sends out a wrong message to the world that where ever Muslims become majority in a part of the country, they want freedom. UN will never support such movement.

That is what I'm reiterating that it needs to be peaceful first. Violence against a much stronger opponent doesn't work. As far as the motivation for independece being religion, I have no issues with that. Religion is part of culture.

The irony is the hindu kashmiris don't want independence because they want to stay with a hindu majority India.

So if the muslim kashmiri seperatist movement is because of religion, so is the Kashmiri Hindu's sympathies with India.

But Hindu Kashmiri’s were brutally thrown out of tier own lands by Muslim Kashmiri’s long time back.

By the way India have one of the biggest Muslim population in world so Kashmiri Muslims will not be out of place here.If still they have problems they are free to migrate like their counterparts from Iraq/Afgan/Syria does.I don’t think Indian Govt stops even Hindus from living country.

This settles it. Afridi is gunning to be Prime Minister someday. Afridi vs Imran Khan will be a mouth watering contest!

Forget about the guy, none even knows here that he is saying these things. And please dont compare the guy with imran khan.He has never been using kashmir for his political motives.

Fair enough too. Most overrated piece of land is Kashmir. Too much attention has been showered onto it for decades on end, and both countries should ignore it for some time to make up for it.

Likewise on this side of the border. Even at best, it's just boring to see on the news each day and every day.

Sure, that's why I have never made any attempt to compare them, I was only talking about Mahatma.

Great to see Afridi advising Kashmiri kids to focus on their studies (and hopefully become Software Engineers, doctors, accountants when they grow up) instead of taking to terrorism and throwing stones at security forces. Hopefully these kids will do better in their lives than their parents. A growing Indian economy will offer them unmatched opportunities to do well.

Also, lovely to see some Pakistanis turning into Gandhi fanbois. After all, as Gandhiji himself said: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

It would be nice to see more Indian fanbois of Gandhi too, seems today they prefer the lunatic fringe who incite communal violence rather than the peaceful tones of Gandhiji.

If Gandhi were alive he'd probably supporting the colonized Kashmiris for independence.

A country of 1.3B will always have all kinds. Vast majority of Indians are peace-loving. India is lucky to have Gandhi's guidance.

I'd say Gandhi would have been super amused to learn that in some countries people like Hafeez Saeed are called social reformers / spiritual leaders.

As far Kashmir, he'd have launched an agitation for peace and parked himself in Srinagar till progress was made.

Same people who no longer have pride atleast will have sympathy for Gandhi because of backstabbing by certain people to get a separate country for minorities.

Apologies, I don't know Indian insider politics that well, can't really tell who you mean when you talk in riddles. Which parties have sympathy for Gandhi and what does it have to do with backstabbing from whoever to get a separate country for minorities?

You only wrote this comment

If they didn’t take pride as you say (there is no proof ) but atleast they can have sympathy for him for his dream shattered by backstabbers who wanted desperate country.
