If you had a machine to teleport a player from a bygone era (at their peak) to today where they would have the benefit of improved fitness, coaching, equipment etc. to see how they fare in the modern game - who would it be?

Many names come to mind and the obvious one would be The Don to see how that average would hold up in this day and age.

Some other candidates could be:
Glenn McGrath - phenomenal stats especially the economy rates - how would they look like in an era where batsman are much more willing to take the bowlers on

Any of the great Windies quicks

Brian Lara

For me personally though

Runner-up: Wasim Akram - A genius who could make the ball talk. Could he outfox the batsmen the way he did in the T20 era? Or would he too suffer at the hands of the Warners, de Villiers and Kohlis like the top bowlers of today?

My pick: Sir Viv Richards - SR of 90+ in an era in which it was unheard of and against skilled quicks without a helmet. How devastating would he be today when batsman are given the license to go berserk and with ridiculous equipment, conditions and rules that make even ****** batsmen fearless? I am truly disappointed that I missed out on watching Sir Viv live.

More than one the obvious answer is Bradman.
It would be interesting to see Hobbs Bradman Sobers and Richards all playing today to see what happens.

Mohammed Zahid at his peak, injury free! He could put God's fear in some batsmen's mind with his extreme pace and ability to swing it as well.

Batting wise, Wasim Raja or even Majid Khan at their absolute best, they would smash all the pretenders of today also known as bowlers!

Asim Kamal (Although I've seen him play from start to finish) but WTH.....I just want to seem him play.

For the kids who've never heard of the great man, he was basically the Fawad Alam of the previous generation :P

Although in all fairness, I wouldn't necessarily mind Faisal Iqbal as well :D

Now you are just asking for too much :D

I would love to see Mohammad Asif back. What a magician that guy was with ball in hand. Spectacular to watch.

Viv Richards
Srikanth
The 80's allrounders
Bradman
Quartet
Wasim
Waqar
Sobers
Spin quartet
Mushy
Qadir

The entire WI mob of the 1980s.

Sir Viv, Greenidge, Lloyd, Holding, Marshall, Garner.

They would have made merry smashing all the current teams into oblivion.

I would actually like to see don bradman. With all the hype and the stats surrounding him it would be interesting to see how good he actually is.

Most menacing fast bowlers of yester years in the likes of Ambrose,Walsh,Marshal,Holding,Hadlee,Imran,Lillie etc.I am eager to see how they going to bowl in the batsman dominated era and today's pitches.End of the day i just want to compare it with steyn's stats:ab

After watching this pop gun Windies attack vs England - I'd want to see Curtly Ambrose.

Saw Sir Viv. Saw Sir Curtly. Saw Lillee, saw Sir Richard, saw Imran, saw Marshall.

I want to see...... Keith Miller.c

suffer at the hands of the Warners, de Villiers and Kohlis like the top bowlers of today?

Warner has Ashwin, de Villiers (had) Afridi, Kohli has Anderson, Amir...

Every batsman but Smith has a bogey bowler in this era.

i'd like to see the first test that was played with all the modern gadgets, speed guns, slow mo cameras and what not.

that'd settle a lot of hypothetical debates and what not. a chubby w.g. grace ambling in between the wickets would be fun to see.

The greatest cricketer to have ever lived, Sir Garfield Sobers.

was going to say the same thing. I would add Hutton, Sunny, Greg, Barry and Pollock. From the bowlers I would like to see Dennis Lillee, Marshall play against todays players. Will get owned so badly that all this talk about Current players being useless would come to an abrupt and awkward end.
