Okay, so I followed this years Psl draft, and quite honestly it has been the weakest draft of psl till now even with foreign players being more open to tour Pak now.

I may not be the only one who thinks that there were too many big foreing names that went undrafted and many smaller names got picked up.

Just for example, in place of Tom Abell or Joe Clarke, we could have had Dwayne Bravo, Thisara Perera, Morne Morkel, Evin Lewis or someone else.

Drafting on basis of categories ensures that domestic players of different categories, big and small could be accomodated and the likes of newer, emerging or those on sidelines could be developed and be given a chance but why do the strategy makers put oversees players in the similar categories when the goal is to put the best show available.

A franchise league doesn't really have to develop foreign players, foreign players are there for adding some sheen and starpower in these leagues and to raise the standard of the competition.

I am no expert on finance and economics, but what are your opinions about it. Would like to hear that. :)

It’s because of budget. We can’t afford more than the draft categories allow. Tom Abell and Joe Clarke are “steal” picks with the remaining money that each franchise has.

That's a big problem.

Precisely. That’s why the broadcasting deals that are being announced these days, plus increased interest from sponsors, plus sponsors coming into first class and list A cricket, all of this is a big deal.

I don’t actually care that much about PSL to be honest, but we need this top notch kind of money to set up a functioning grassroots system.

Personally, I feel that this Draft model needs to be changed. As things stand a lot of players miss out on selection due to unnecessary rules. Obviously the budget aspect comes in but something needs to be done.

Does having Tom Abell and Joe Clarke raise the standard of PSL or Pakistan cricket?

Joe Clarke would have been playing for England if he hadn't been involved in a sex scandal

Definitely. Not as much as David Warner etc playing in the IPL obviously, but there’s no point comparing. within the limited budget we have, these guys are actually very good.

Joe Clarke was involved in a sex/rape scandal (he was part of a whatsapp group or something) otherwise he was rated ahead of Tom Banton for the England team. Tom Abell is very good and has all the modern innovations.

Obviously, we can’t compete with IPL, but these guys are top notch international picks from the pool available based on pure ability (not based on reputation).

I just don’t want it to be a pensioner super league, and actually be Pakistan super league. Ronchi scoring for fun when even his own family won’t pick him for backyard XI anymore. Ravi Bopara transforming into Kapil Dev.
