Options for dealing with Umar Akmal

He doesn't deserve to play. If he does make it back, it should only be to see if maybe opening would stick. It's the only place for a player who just wants to knock it out of the park.

Given what he has shown in terms of attitude, I would never have him back, but I'm sure he will come back.

Considering how many chances have been given to Asad Shafiq, it would be unfair not to have another look at Umar Akmal. Mickey may need to be sacked though as Akmal/Arthur combo doesnt work.

Why not A, B & C together? D is an outcome, so can’t put as a condition- guy can do every thing right, still might end up less than 600 mark for injury or other off field issues.

PAK is in desperate need of a player like Umar, may be Maksood as well. This Moha, Malik, Sarfraz, Asif ... 3-6 is not going to win PAK more than 2 games in WC.

Asif has no real performance tbh. Just a flat batted slogger hyped over his sixes in what we say tamasha cricket when it comes to Umar I think. Not saying Asif is bad but Pakistan think tank havn't got it in them to give people a chance to explore their strengths nor do the Pak batsmen want to prove anything. The guys fitness is such a joke that he cant run a 2 if his life depended on it.

This guy is such a conundrum.. he's clearly a better option than most of Pakistan's middle order, and probably one of the cleanest hitters in Pakistan. But I don't think we're past his fitness and mental issues either.

Don't know if I want him around the young core of Babar, Fakhar, Imam, Shadab, Hassan, Shaheen...

He's improved his fitness and if selected i believe he won't take his spot in the national team for granted

Hard to score runs when your team management is looking to scapegoat you for the team's failures at every available opportunity. He was clearly struggling for confidence in the last psl and the complete lack of support by Mccullam and Aqib further compounded the problems for him

The guys fitness is such a joke that he cant run a 2 if his life depended on it.

His fitness has improved slightly.


If I remember correctly It took place after 3rd ball of 11th over which Umar Cut to deep Cover who ran towards deep point to collect the ball. Don't think highlights will show this single.

I may sound bias towards him as I have always admired his talent but I feel that too much is made out of his weight even though he hardly ever drops a catch in the field. I think the lack of discipline in fitness was certainly affecting his batting none the less. Seems to be much more intent on not throwing it away so easily. Definite improvements unlike Ahmad Shahzad who although seems to be in the best shape of his life is still a mentally weak batsman.

Double standards. Imad and Sarfraz and even Yasir get into team despite obvious fat belly but UA has weight problem.

How hard is it for an international cricket in Umar Akmal do just do only those things relevant to him. He has the money and resources to

Have a personal chef cooking healthy, nutritional delicious meals 5-6 times a day

Have a personal trainer to work out 2.5 hours a day ie one hour of Cardio and one hour weights

3 hours minimum of batting practice with bowling machines

A 45-60 minute swimming pool session at night. These are 6-7 hours required per day. Let's say 2 hours for the 5-6 meals a day.

6-7 hours of sleep

Which leaves atleast 6-8 hours left. Is it very hard to maintain this schedule for 70-80% of the times for a professional cricketer

So what? Players go through bad form, it takes solid support from the teams support staff to give them confidence and back into the swing of things. The way the team management scapegoated him in public was just the easiest thing to do for them to mask their own failures and was extremely unprofessional on their part.

Didn't they check their stats before picking him. There is a reason why LQ dumped Mccullam because they didn't buy into his over rated reputation

Today opposing team captain was kamran , he was feeding him bowlers that he could hit. He was just helping out his brother , if a religious person like Inzamam can be biased towards imam so can Kamran Akmal who has been in max fixing and other controversies.

He has taken spots of so many deserving young cricketers , its because of people here on PP who support him even if he costs world cup
If he gets out bowled they say you know the pitch was really damp , if he gets caught behind oh that was a great ball , of he hits out its management problem they didn't tell him how to eat and go to bathroom , if he has discipline issues oh its his personal life he is great talent. They start always whining and complaining
