KARACHI: Pakistan's former captain and coach Javed Miandad has called on his country's Cricket Board to forget about playing India in the near future and instead focus on improving the game's structure.

"They don't want to play with us so be it. Our cricket will not die if we don't play with India. We should move on and forget about them," Miandad told the media at a function in Karachi.

The veteran of 124 Tests said there was no need for the PCB to "beg" the BCCI for bilateral matches.

"They haven't played against us since the last 10 years, so what? Has our cricket gone down? No we have done well. The Champions Trophy win is an example. Cricket cannot die in Pakistan. We have also survived without international cricket at home since 2009," he pointed out.

India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket since 2012 owing to political tensions between the two countries after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The former captain urged the PCB to manage its finances better.

"Today the PCB is financially stable but there is a need for proper accountability of where the money that comes from the ICC is spent.

"There is a need to reduce the administrative expenses of the board and get rid this army of advisors, consultants and employees. The PCB can easily function without paying such heavy salaries to an over-sized staff," he said.

While this is absolutely true, I don't think most Indian and Pakistani cricket fans understand the gravity of this matter. The PCB and Sethi aren't whining because they love India so much and want to play them so bad, the issue is the fact that Pakistan toured India in 2012-13 on the promise of a return tour. This was signed in the MOU. How people can ignore and casually forget that is beyond me!

It is very convenient for Indian fans to forget this but Pakistani's should know better. Once the final return tour has been made, I know for a fact that the PCB and Co. will be least bothered to convince India to tour, but as of now, PCB is within its legal rights, and correctly so to sue India for going against a signed agreement.

Good luck with that. :ashwin

The irony of Javed Miandad talking about PCB not wasting money on consultants.

Miandad has been milking PCB like a cow for years - who can forget his time as Director General when he had a cushy job with perks and privileges where he did nothing but sit and collect paycheck.

It is India who is losing out by not playing PK often. That W/L could have gone for a spin by now

That's been obvious but thanks to Indian propaganda all you hear is "PCB is dying to play India for the money"...The PCB-BCCI issue is one of principal where BCCI conveniently snaked on their agreement. Time doesn't stay the same however and once both nations do decide to resume relations, BCCI will have to deal with this...

Pakistan beat India in the last bilateral series played between the two countries. Not to mention, India got man-handled and thrown aside in the last big match the two sides played.

Sethi is desperate to play India so Pakistan can get a cushion on the W/L ratio. Will be difficult when India becomes a half decent team.

Miandad does not have the technical background or the integrity to be taken seriously on the matter.
