"Our team in 2007 ODI World Cup was best in the world. Even better than 2003 and 2011" : Virender Sehwag

Do you agree with the above bizarre statement of Sehwag?

I don't how matches from the 80s.are relevant here. In the naughties, India defeated Pakistan in 3 out of 4 odi series as well as the famous 2003 wc clash. Just before the 2007 wc, they thrashed Pakistan 4-1 in their own homes.
Yes Pakistan were better than India in the 80s &90s but with rise of dhoni, sehwag and yuvi the trend was reversed.

This Pakistan team if fully available and fully firing (in my humble opinion) was better than India’s:

1. Salman Butt
2. Imran Nazir
3. Younis Khan
4. Mohammad Yousuf
5. Inzimam ul Haq
6. Abdul Razzaq
7. Shahid Afridi
8. Kamran Akmal
9. Rana Naveed
10. Shoaib Akhtar
11. Mohammad Asif

India had batsmen only, there bowling was decent

Pakistan had a good batting line up, and very good bowlers. The Akhtar, Naveed and Asif 3 man attack was the best pace trio in the world for me in White ball cricket
I don't know about Rana. He had two very good years in 2005 and 2006. He was basically finished after that. Replace him with Umar Gul and this was a very good team for the time.

Low IQ comments like these is why Sehwag was never considered for captaincy role.

Yep agreed. But in my opinion India's 2003 was the best even miles ahead than one in 2023.

Because they showed dominance in SA back then rather than being home bullies with doctored pitches.
lol 23 games of dominance in odi

2023 Indian team is the best team ever

Only reason Aus even won is cause pant jaiswal and Hardik dint play.

Combination was good one back then. India even lost its premiere batsman vengsarkar during the WC campaign. But enough ball rounders helped India pull off a miracle.
Not a miracle. It’s a myth

Best team won. Win vs w.indies twice and won in 85

More legit than 2019 win of the Anglo frauds

A big issue with Indian & Pakistani fans is we just judge by reputation. We look at a team line up & think this team must have been world beater - without checking if those players were actually in good form at that point of time

Like I have always seen Pakistani fans claim their 2003 WC team was top tier team. In reality that team was packed with players like Wasim Akram ,Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar who were well past their prime - and actually retired after the WC. Or players like Shahid Afridi & Abdul Razzak whre were struggling for form during that period

Its same with Indian fans & the 2007 WC team. How did that team lose so badly. May be bcoz those players were not in good form at that point of time
2023 was the goat Indian team and easily one of the strongest every odi teams in history.

They only lost the final cause 3 key players were missing.

Lol is Jaiswal is even on the squad? And Pant is not that great so far in LOI.. Hardik yes but then Shami wouldn't play and may be India won't reach final.. India lost fair and square not due to someone not on the XI..

Pant is Aus killer
He is way better than sky
So is jaiswal. Way better than any opener we have
So yes it will make a huge differnece

And Aus has a bad record when they play vs pandy
Pandya loves beating Aus.

Naah. That Pakistan team was good only on paper

I mean India had a horror run of form in 2006 in ODIs - losing badly everywhere & yet they thrashed that Pakistan team 4-1 in Pakistan with half-fit Tendulkar & novice bowlers. In the 5th game ( dead rubber) India dropped many key players & still won so easily

Rana Naveed , Sami, Asif & Razzak got treated like club bowlers in that series by Dhoni & Yuvraj
That's rather harsh. In the 9 bilateral ODI series Pakistan played before the 2007 World Cup, we won 5, drew 2 and lost 2.

We beat India (A), WI (A) and England (H) before the 1-4 loss at home. Afterwards we toured a strong Sri Lanka and beat them 0-2. The only other team that won a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka between 2000 and 2007 was Australia.

So a decent body of work was being built. That's what made the 2007 campaign so upsetting.

LOL, bro thinks IND got knocked out by the unbeatable Australian team. Bro, you got kicked out of the tournament by baby tigers, when the likes of Shakib, Tamim and Mushfiqur was in their infant stage - literally. Sehwag as a player was great to watch, but his mouth man, always annoyed me.

he himself was in awful form before the 2007 WC and was picked only because Dravid wanted him. He was dropped again after the 2007 WC. 2007 WC team was by far India's worst in among all WCs played in this century.

I think 2007 format was quite unforgiving. One upset could've knocked a team out and that was exactly what happened to both Pakistan and India.
