Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund following talks in Monaco, according to Sky sources.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu is understood to have concluded talks on a five-year contract for the forward on the Mediterranean coast on Thursday.

Barcelona are unlikely to confirm the deal until it is signed but Sky Sports News have been told the move is agreed in principle and could be worth as much as £110million.

Dembele has been a primary target for the Catalan side this summer, along with Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as Barcelona look to bring in reinforcements following Neymar's £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said last week Dortmund would not wait until the last few days of the transfer window for a deal to be agreed, insisting the 20-year-old would be staying at the club if their asking price was not met.

Dembele joined Dortmund from French Ligue 1 club Rennes last summer. He scored six goals and contributed 13 assists in 32 Bundesliga matches during his first season at the Westfalenstadion.

Overpaid

So this is for potential lol

Hopefully it mean they will leave Coutinho alone. I would have sold Coutinho for £130 million two months back when they should have made a bid if they wanted him so badly. It is all about timing, now they are forced to over pay for Dembele.

I was also in favour of coutinho being sold

But Barca were taking the mick with the offer and silly instalments and add ons as part of the fee

Barcelona close to Dembélé deal after agreeing €150m fee with Dortmund

Barcelona have confirmed they have reached an agreement in principle to sign Ousmane Dembélé from Borussia Dortmund, with the France forward now expected to become the second most expensive player in history in a deal that could be worth €150m (£138.4m).

Talks over Dembélé, who has been suspended by Dortmund since 10 August after he missed a training session, had broken down after Barça refused to meet the German club’s valuation. An offer worth more than €100m was rejected two weeks ago, with Dortmund insisting that they would not accept less than €150m for the player they signed from Rennes last summer for a 10th of that cost.

However, it is understood that after weighing up a fourth bid for Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona officials instead opted to return for the 20-year-old, with a deal worth an initial €120m with up to €30m in add-ons finally agreed on Thursday.

A club spokesman confirmed to the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo that negotiations had gone very well, adding that an agreement in principle had been reached. Sources close to the player are also confident that Dembélé – who scored six goals in his debut season in the Bundesliga – will now complete his move to La Liga, with the forward expected to be unveiled over the weekend.

€150m

That's a lot of money, but there's still plenty left over from the Neymar deal.

I reckon Barcelona are one or two really good signings away from being able to match Real Madrid in terms of quality.

That's nuts.

Dembele is a top-tier prospect but this is crazy money.

Barca President (Bartomeou) have lost face to the fans due to failure to keep Neymar at home; now he is certain to lose next election; these are all desperate effort to save face. And, if Pep can buy Messi, whole Barcelona will bast like a fire cracker. Messi knows that he has very little to fight with this team, even against Athletico, therefore he might leave for ManCity - Barca management desperately needs to bring players to keep Messi, Suarez comfortable, otherwise if that decay starts, with in couple of windows, they'll become a upper mid table club. This is very common in club football.

A few things -

1. If Barca didn't make major signings they risked losing Messi for free as he was waiting to see who was added before renewing.
2. Dembele at 20 is better than Neymar was at 20. He is not as flashy as Neymar but still just as effective.
3. Barca still have plenty of money for Coutinho ... about 130M plus player sales.

He is not overpriced or overrated....football marketing is growing as years so these are usual prices

He's just 20 and is much more mature of his age

As compared to most players of his age is he can dribble, shoot, pass and control the ball with both feet equally well and has got searing pace too

I don't want to see him at barca but he an be a ideal replacement for neymar

Ousmane Dembele: Barcelona agree £135.5m deal for Dortmund forward

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele for a fee that could rise to 147m euros (£135.5m), making him the world's second most expensive player.

Barca will pay an initial 105m euros (£96.8m) for the France international, 20, who has agreed a five-year contract and will undergo a medical on Monday.

The deal is eclipsed only by Neymar's recent £200m move to Paris St-Germain.

Barca revealed that his deal will contain a release clause of 400m euros.

Dembele has not featured for Dortmund since the German Super Cup on 5 August. The German side rejected a bid from Barca for the forward earlier in August, with the player then suspended for missing training.

Dortmund said they rejected Barca's approach because their offer "did not correspond to the extraordinary footballing and additional value of the player and the present economic situation of the European transfer market".

With regard to the fee now agreed, Dortmund said in a statement that the payment of add-ons "was agreed up to a maximum total amount of approximately 40% of the fixed transfer fee".

Barca have failed with three bids for Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho, with their most recent offer of £114m turned down last Friday.

Luis Suarez's transfer from Liverpool in 2014 is officially their most expensive purchase, at £75m.

However, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has previously that said "the overall cost of the operation" to sign Neymar from Brazilian club Santos in 2013 was "over 100m euros (£92m)", despite the transfer fee having been disclosed as £48.6m.

Dembele exploits attract Barca's attention

Last season, Dembele scored 10 goals and provided 21 assists as Dortmund finished third in the Bundesliga and won the German Cup, also reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.

He joined Dortmund from French side Rennes on a five-year deal in May 2016, having been voted Ligue 1 young player of the year for the 2015-16 season, when he scored 12 goals and made five assists.

Demeble made his senior France debut in 2016, the only goal in seven caps to date coming in a 3-2 friendly victory over England in June.

He was left out of the France squad for September's World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Luxembourg, with manager Didier Deschamps explaining on Thursday: "Ousmane hasn't trained for a fortnight and he's waiting to see if the transfer will go ahead or won't go ahead."

The second biggest transfer ever

2017 - Neymar £200m (Barcelona to Paris St-Germain)

2017 - Ousmane Dembele £135.5m (Dortmund to Barcelona, subject to completion)

2016 - Paul Pogba £89m (Juventus to Manchester United)

2013 - Gareth Bale £85m (Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid)

2009 - Cristiano Ronaldo £80m (Manchester United to Real Madrid)

I just wonder, by 2020, what'll be the price of this French team?

GK: Lloris, Lafonte, Areola
Backs: Varane, Mendy, Kurazawa, Sidibe, Digne, Umtiti, Zouma, Laporte
Mid-field: Pogba, Kante, Bakayoko, Tollisso, Rabiot, Bakayoko, Kongdogbia
Forward: Greiezmann, Dembele (Both), Lecazzette, Lemar, Mbappe, Martial, Fekir, Coman ...

Probably over a billion EURO.

A lot of money but he's a brilliant prospect. Playing with Messi and Suarez will help his development.

Ousmane Dembele 'won't give in to blackmail' as Barcelona tell winger he must leave in January

Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele says he will "not give in to blackmail" after the club told the Frenchman he must leave in the January transfer window.

Dembele is out of contract in the summer, meaning Barcelona face the prospect of losing him on a free transfer if he sees out the season in Catalonia.

The 24-year-old said on Instagram: "As of today, I'm going to answer honestly without giving in to any form of blackmail.

"I forbid people from thinking that I'm not committed to this sporting project. I forbid people from attributing intentions to me that I've never had.

"I forbid people from speaking for me or my agent, who I have total confidence in. I'm still under contract, I'm fully committed and at the disposal of the club and my coach.

"I've always given everything for my team-mates and also for all the fans. That's not going to change now.

"I'm not a man who cheats and even less so one who's used to giving in to blackmail.

"Love can certainly be a variant of blackmail."

Dembele's comments come after Barcelona's director of football, Mateu Alemany, said he wants to leave the club after refusing to sign a new contract.

Dembele turned down Barcelona's attempt to sign him to a new deal as the terms on offer were lower than his current contract. He was left out of the squad for Thursday's match at Athletic Bilbao.

Alemany said on Thursday: "With Ousmane and with his agents we began conversations in the month of July, during all this time, it has been six months almost seven months, we have talked, we have spoken, Barca has made different offers, we have tried to find a way for him to continue with us.

"Those offers have been systematically rejected by their agents. And today, January 20, 11 days before the end of the last term within his contract, it is evident, it seems obvious to us, that the player does not want to continue at Barcelona and therefore is not committed to Barca's future project.

"In this scenario, he and his agents have been told that he must leave immediately, because we want players committed to this project, and therefore we expect a transfer before January 31.

"The sporting consequence of all this, valued by the technicians and by our coach, is that we do not want to have with us players who are not committed to the project and who do not want to be at Barca and therefore the fact that he is not called up is no more than a consequence of this whole process.

"The club obviously is not the one that should determine this, it is the coach who has determined it, but he has our support and we think it is a totally coherent attitude."

Dembele joined the club from Borussia Dortmund for £135m - just weeks after Neymar's world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain - but has struggled with injuries for much of his time in Spain.

The 2018 World Cup winner has started just six matches this season and his only goal came in the Copa del Rey victory at third-tier Linares earlier this month.

Dembele's involvement has increased dramatically since Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman as manager in November, however, with all but one of his 11 appearances this season coming under the former Barcelona midfielder.
