Outside the Fab 4, is Jos Buttler the only man is this era who can challenge Virat Kohli?

Was just reading about Rob Key podcast and in the podcast they asked the question, Virat Kohli or Jos Buttler?

We hear that Smith ,Root, and Williamson are the only players who can challenge Kohli . These are in a similar mould. Buttler presents a different challenge. Able to play 360 degrees versus pace and spin , also picks up length brilliantly.

So can Buttler challenge Kohli or are the English pundits wrong?

I'm not sure Buttler can challenge Kohli due to Kohli insane work ethic, but I think after Kohli that Buttler is the best LO batter in the world.

What do you guys think ?

Buttler is as good as de Villiers, who challenged Kohli admirably for a good 3-4 years before running out of gas.

Buttler’s best is still to come, and he is certainly capable of challenging Kohli not in terms of volume of runs and stats (Kohli has too much of a head start) but in terms of impact.

He needs to bat at 4 or 5 in Test cricket, but not lower.

In a one-off game? Sure. Over the length of a series/tournament? Maybe. Multiple years, tournaments, formats & a whole career? No.

He is not a good Test batsman though. His best is yet to come in ODI format though.

He is. Give him a consistent run and he will fly. He has been held back because of ECB’s conservatism. They brought him back last summer and he has already played a few breathtaking knocks.

I think he is already one of the most impactful players in the world. He is probably going to get better. He will never be as statistically as good but as a match winner, he sure can in the future.

In LOs, yes absolutely and dont think anyone else comes close to challenge Kohli apart from Buttler(Rohit is there as well though).Root is very good but Buttler will be closest competitor to Kohli in ODIs.

In tests, however, there are guys like Smith, Williamson and Root and a few more who will be mentioned above Buttler. He is turning 29 now, one hundred in 30 odd tests probably not a good output IMO.

In tests he has improved when he has come back into the team in 2018. I expect him to improve further.

Clean striker. Roles are different for them . KOhli is a consolidator plus finisher. Buttler's role is finishing big. Kohli has slightly modified his approach. He is not super aggressive like he was before. HE is playing more responsibly.

I believe Shai Hope will be as good as any by the end of this World Cup.

Apparently Babar Azam is the 2nd best batsmen in the world after kohli Jos butter has no chance he still has a long way to go should learn a thing or 2 from Babar and imam

Whats up with multiple ppers forgetting how to end a sentence and the usage of "This Type Of Capitalization Where Every First Letter In Every Word Is Capital”?

Makeup of the Eng side means that Jos has and will evolve as a very different player to Virat.
An inns of 50(30) from Buttler is a good day for England especially if Root/Morgan are holding inns together at other end.

The same inns from Kohli would be seen as a missed opportunity for India

A good WC for Butler and a mediocre one for Kohli ( again!) will tilt the argument in Butler's favour as far as impact is concerned. Statistically Kohli will be ahead obviously.

Buttle is obviously there only to create impact. That is his designated role. Kohli's role has more responsibility. Impact will be there. But it will be a different kind of impact.

Butler is not the cameo finisher that you see in many teams like Pandya(wannabe), Russell, Miller etc. He does an extended impactful, explosive role. He has 8 100s which is more than Dhoni i guess who has done it in more than 300 games.

Buttler can be a good test batsman but he won't even be better than Root . The fab 4 of Smith, Kohli, Williamson and pujara are beasts in tests. Buttler and bairstow are high impact ODI batters though and stand out even in this English odi lineup. England , Pakistan, SA, SL don't have test batters of the calibre of the fab 4.

Buttler is more of an impact player who is mighty effective in his role as a middle order enforcer. He is more like Gilchrist or Jayasuriya where he has a specific role to play and might not be as useful if asked to play differently. Kohli and AB are much more well rounded players whose game is suited to a variety of roles and situations.

No one can challenge Kohli , his temperament and work ethics is far better than others.

Butler will fail in test cricket he hasn't have the ability and technique to survive in test cricket???

He will struggle you are judging him wrong he is a good odi player thats it??watch him dancing like snake when play against in asia particularly vs india

Immam is 3rd
Fakhar is 4th
Haris is 5th in pakistan😂😂🤦🤦
not in this world but in pakistans separate world

Ugh.

What?

Not good enough - I mean sure, he's good in one off matches.

But he's not a batsman you can rely on, and is nowhere near the class of Kohli, Smith, Babar Azam, Root, AB.
