Quotes from Mohammad Hasnain via PCB:

“It’s a little cold here and we failed some difficulties initially because of that but thankfully we have adjusted now’”

“Today in the match we all bowled well and hopefully we will bowl in the same way and help the side win matches”

“My fitness is much better than before and I am working with Azhar Mahmood on my bowling and I have learnt a lot from him”

“The way I bowled in today’s game was based upon what Azhar Mahmood taught me and I applied that learning in this game and I bowled much better”

“Pace is natural to me and that is the reason I have been selected so I am trying to improve my pace further”

“I want to bowl better and in an attacking manner to get wickets”

“This is the first time I have come to England, and this is my first experience of English wickets”

“Wickets are good and the ball is swinging also so its really helpful for me”

With Hasnain's action, there is no reason why he can't get a bit of natural out swing . . if he can get the ball to move even the slightest of bits, he becomes a WHOLE different proposition!

If his bowling plan was based on what Azhar Mehmood taught him, i would be a bit worried. He is bowling way too many short deliveries for these conditions. What is Azhar teaching him lol

I'm not really too sure on whether Hasnain will be successful or not, majority of fast bowlers who tend to do well are from Punjab or the odd guy from KPK, I rarely seen any from Sindh who can hold their own but good luck to him.

PCB should have taken early initiative and get Pont over to help with some slight technicalities with these guys especially Hasnain, he can get a lot better with the help of him.

We already have someone with pace who gets natural outswing

But he is sitting at home

Azhar Mehmood is teaching him how to terrorize batsmen

Harris Rauf?

If that's who you are referring to, then yea . . I don't quite understand how they chose Hasnain over Haris . . Hasnain perhaps was a bit quicker than Haris on average, but like you said Haris seems to have the ability to swing the ball . .

The only reason I can think of is that Hasnain played under Sarfaraz so that went in his favor!

Yup.

What good is the pace if it doesn't come with all the other stuff?

We saw how Hasnain's pace was carted around in UAE of all places v Australia

If he can bowl fuller off stump line in England with his pace he can be very handy in early overs. Of course in death overs yorkers, bouncers variations etc

What has that got to do with anything lol

Cant with with some people. The same posters that are begging for young players to be selected are the same posters that are slating Hasnain.

Give him time! Hes a young man and will only improve. Even if he doesnt play, this experience will be beneficial for him when you add it to the raw ingredients that he already has.

He will be a great success in sha Allah.

Important that he bowls the right length and doesn't try to bowl too short as some young bowlers tend to do in England.

Yup.

Hasnain is a wildcard who was selected solely because of his extra pace. He will probably only be used as an alternative option rather than a mainstay. Haris will be polished and then picked in 1-2 years as his skills which are more conventional don't bring anything different to the side right now.

My biggest worry for Hasnain is the awful seam. It needs some serious work to get it to a point where it's allowing the ball to move.

Rauf should have been selected in place of JK in my view.

Exciting prospect, has work to do though.

Yes young players should be selected but not for such a huge event. If they wanted to select a new player should have selected Haris Rauf who can actually make the ball talk.

He has to play at old Trafford against India and unleash those short balls.

You can't go to world cup straight ( almost ) from street cricket.

Well that would have made Hasan Ali the only bowler with 50plus wickets. Bowling is about adjusting to conditions and bowling in partnerships, don't think youngsters would know how to do that without any List A or FC matches under them. Junaid is overly criticized here on PP even though he adapts better than most seamers plus his seam movement is ideal for England. Maybe in 2-3 years you can make a case for Shaheen, Hasnain, Haris, Musa etc being the first choice but atm Hasnain is there only as a surprise package IMO.
Plus Junaid has a good record against Chris Gayle, hoping he can put us to a good start by sending Gayle back in the first few overs if picked.

People are hyping harris here.
He is good prospect but he is older than hasnain. Pcb should stick with hasnain because he is just 18 and lot more quicker. He will learn

Junaid is old and past his best

Happy for him Shaheen and Rauf.

Just please educate them to stay away from shady people and shady deals.

Losing Asif and Sharjeel to greed alone robbed Pakistan of 2 exciting talents.

I think inexperience of Hasnain will be exposed brutally in WC.

If you can swing the ball at 150 both ways, you don’t need experience... the other guy who is facing the said 150 kph swinging balls does... and I am afraid such experience isn’t easy to come by!

We don't know yet if he even swings the ball unlike Haris Rauf who does swing it both ways.

Hasnain doesn't regularly bowl at 150, he hits 150 or gets close to it a few times.

3 overs 1 for 21 today against Leicestershire.

Learning his trade.

In England, even I can swing the ball.. trust me, he will swing it..

He is learning fast - a bad performance is also a learning experience.

His real test begins now, against the number 1 ODI team at their home ground. Let's see how he handles the pressure of big occasions.

He shouldn't play the T20I on Sunday, rather play 3-4 ODIs out of the 5 to gain more experience of 50 over bowling without being burnt out.

Four years ago, two-time World Cup winner Steve Waugh predicted young fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain would one day make a name for himself on the international stage.

Now the 19-year-old can prove Waugh right after his blistering pace earned him a call-up to Pakistan's squad for the World Cup.

Pakistan's chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, a member of the country's first and only victorious World Cup squad in 1992, called the young bowler a "surprise package", while legendary paceman Waqar Younis says he sees shades of himself in the ultra-quick, destructive teen.

Tall and with a wide smile, Hasnain has turned heads after first arriving on the national scene in 2015 and sending down balls at a blistering 150kph (93 mph).

Hasnain's rise to Pakistan's senior squad has been similarly rapid -- he made his one-day international debut within a week of leading the Quetta Gladiators to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) title.

"It's a great honour to represent Pakistan and the honour multiplied when I was named in the World Cup squad," Hasnain told AFP.

"I am on cloud nine and ready to make batsmen struggle with my speed. I love to bowl fast and that is my strong point."

Hasnain made his way to the international stage from the dusty pitches of sun-bleached Hyderabad in southern Pakistan, where he was mentored by renowned cricketing coach Iqbal Imam.

"Hasnain played Under-16 and Under-19 for Hyderabad and right from the start his pace has been impressive," recalled Imam, a former first-class cricketer who had played alongside Inzamam.

In 2015, he was selected in Pakistan's Under-15 team to tour Australia.

"I remember that at the Bradman ground near Sydney, Steve Waugh came to watch his son Austin and he saw Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasnain in action. He predicted that the two boys will make an impact at the international level," said former coach Mohammad Masroor.

Shaheen played for Pakistan in all three formats last year and is also in the World Cup squad, meaning both players can now seize their opportunity at the tournament in England and Wales.

He could also feature in Sunday's one-off T20 clash against England in Cardiff.

- 'Shivers down your spine' -

Soon after his 12 wickets in the PSL's fourth edition, Hasnain was picked to play for Pakistan against Australia in a one-day series in the United Arab Emirates.

Although he took just two wickets in three games, Australian batsmen were troubled by his pace -- a trait Pakistan's head coach Mickey Arthur said could be a game-changer for his squad.

"His pace is the most impressive and he has the potential of an international player," said Arthur.

"He could be the X-factor for us."

Former great Waqar also lauded Hasnain's pace, as well as his grit.

"He is very talented, has pace and bounce and the determination," said Waqar.

"I have told him not to lose his pace, which is his strong point. I wish him the best of luck."

Inzamam says Hasnain has the potential to keep the competition off-balance and the ability to surprise any team.

"I think he could be the surprise package and can at any time win us a match. He has express pace and can damage and can surprise any team," said Inzamam.

"I have faced 150kph in my career and it's not easy. It sends shivers down your spine."

Hasnain will first get his chance to shine in the five-match one-day international series against England -- starting on May 8 -- ahead of the World Cup.

"I didn't know much about Steve Waugh when we met," he said.

"But later I got to know that he was a World Cup winner, a great batsman and a shrewd captain.

"His words were inspiring and I want to prove him right. I know the England series is a big chance for me and then the World Cup. I will do my best to make a name for myself.

"I will, definitely," he added.
