With Usman Shinwari becoming the latest Pakistan paceman to go down with an injury, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector, has stressed on the need for the national team to have a rotation policy for fast bowlers.

With the workload of fast bowlers, especially the ones that play multiple formats, a constant source of debate around the world, Inzamam hoped Pakistan would have a system in place to ensure the attack remained strong in the lead up to the 2019 World Cup.

“Fast bowlers used to get proper rest after every series earlier, but nowadays when there is a gap, players go for leagues around the world and don’t get proper rest,” pointed out Inzamam on Monday (November 6). “I am discussing ways with Mickey (Arthur, the chief coach) as to how we can preserve our fast bowlers and avoid injuries.”

Apart from Shinwari, the latest young man to make a splash at the international level, there have been concerns around Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali, who play all three formats and need to have their workloads managed.

Hasan suffered side strain after playing the first Test against Sri Lanka recently and had to be left out for the second, while Amir missed the five-match One-Day International series against Sri Lanka after suffering a shin injury in the second Test.

Inzamam also stressed that with the team doing well on the whole, there was no need to look beyond the current crop. “Our team has been doing well so I don’t think there is any need of changes in the team, and we want consistency in selection,” he said.

Usman Shinwari has hardly played any international cricket, he was being rested or getting the most rest as compared to all others. Wahab Riaz has been the one that has had the bulk of the workload and eventually his legs gave up.

In the case of Usman Shinwari, it would be really dissapointing to see a talented prodigy not getting the best out of his career due to him being a crock. Dont want to see a Shane Bond or Shoaib Akhtar situation once again

Rofl joke of a statement

A changing top order, fledgling middle order in crunch situations overall the most unstable and poor batting lineup in the cricketing world does'nt need changes as they need 'consis-tancy'. One bad tour and then Inzi will replace TTF with another TTF or tainted Salman Butt/Umar Akmal.

As far as bowling workload is concerned, why does'nt chief selector Inzi send a Ghulam Mudassir or Mir Hamza
both have been selected as reserves for the squad. I'm sure Teammanagement esp. Arthur will not employ Hasan or Amir in every match. Why is Inzi hell-bent on including Wahab Riaz into the squad? Wahab Riaz is the worst spray gun in cricket having the worst econ. rate plus holding 1st, 2nd and 4th record of conceding most runs in ODI format.

Inzi himself confessed
this chief selector is the biggest problem for Mickey Arthur and Sarfraz, compared to competing with any other nation.

You and Mickey Arthur should stop running them into the ground then

Pakistan has played lesser cricket than Zimbabwe this year.

There shouldn't be a workload issues

Should look to rotate the bowlers than instead of playing our best team even when the series is won.

Looks like Ul Haq has sold you the idea that Shinwari got injured for 6 months after 6 days of work load!!!!!!

Don't know how Shinwari got injured but my point is that Pakistan don't rotate the squad in general.

Why are they letting them play silly leagues like the T10? If you want to protect your fast bowlers stop them playing pointless leagues around the world and compensate them.

Isn't it the job of the chief selector to ensure the bowlers are being rotated and given rest?

Also why is the PCB sending the likes of Mohammad Amir to play county cricket when he was already carrying a back injury.
