Yes this is the equipment forum and padman shorts are shorts which have thigh,box and inner thigh pads sewn into them. padman shorts are better.

facing medium pacers, spinners etc -> padman shorts (not enough protection but easy to wear.)
decent cricket -> get proper thigh pad, guard etc.
