ISLAMABAD: The federal government will deport teachers affiliated with Pak-Turk International Schools and Colleges as Islamabad awaits the arrival of Turkish President Recep Teyyep Erdogan.

Erdogan will arrive on Wednesday on a two-day visit. He will also address a joint session of parliament, his thrice such since 2009, the most by a head of state.

According to interior ministry sources, the government has ordered all Turkish residents affiliated with Pak-Turk to leave Pakistan by November 20. Immigration officials have also received orders in this regard.

The sources told that currently there are 23 Pak-Turk schools in Pakistan, where 108 Turkish citizens are working as teachers and in other capacities. The total number of these teachers and their family members amounts to 400.

Ankara had asked Pakistan in August to close down institutions run by Fethullah Gulen, the US-based religious leader accused of masterminding and backing the botched coup attempt in Turkey.

In Pakistan, Gulen runs a network of schools and Rumi Forum, an intellectual and intercultural dialogue platform, in addition to having business stakes. His organisations and businesses have been operating in Pakistan for decades.

It's so Ridiculous that they are being shut because one man says so.

Erdogan has been a massive disappointment recently and his recent purge of anyone that opposes him from the media to the judiciary shows how much power hungry he has become.

Erdogan is becoming more like a Dictator and Nawaz Shareef i guess want to follow him and enjoy all the powers but unfortunately Pak Army isn't like Turk Army...

Fethullah Gulen is the biggest enemy of Erdogan atm who believes he was behind the attempted coup. Pakistan can hardly refuse considering the close relationship between both nations.

But they are working and helping our kids here from decades this isn't the way to treat them our govt should have tried to find another solution.

What's worse these people have only been given 5 days to leave.

They must have bought homes, cars, furniture etc etc in Pakistan, how are they supposed to sell that off and get going within 5 days.

I doubt if Erdogan was open to negotiation. It is shame even in one child's education is affected but I guess Pak will not allow relations to suffer with one of their main allies because of 23 schools in the country.

They will remember that's how Pakistanis paid them back for their services.

That's absolutely pathetic and sad, is that how we reward them for their services?

To be fair to Pakistani government, i heard they have made every effort to convince the Turkish authorities but they are adamant so couldn't do much considering Pakistan's relationship with Turkey.

Oh well We need Turkey more than they need us. This is what happens when you have leaders like Nawaz. Other countries just push around whenever they feel like.

It's remarkable how quickly the Pakistani government can act when a bit of pressure, this time from Turkey, is placed on them.

Yet when it comes to Saudi and other Gulf funded schools, which do more damage to Pakistani society than any Turk schools do, they are unwilling to act.

Funny really what one Skype call accomplished. Without that call, Erdogan would be on trial, the teachers would stay, and Pakistan would be forced by the Turkish coup leaders to deport any Turk sympathetic to AKP ...

Truly appalling considering the education crisis in Pakistan. This is how we pay respect to those who teach our children.

The issue unveils itself, education is the last thing our politicians think about.

Allies stick together, you should know this from India'a longstanding relationship with Russia, and indeed Britain's longstanding co-operation with America and Saudi Arabia.

On the surface Fethullah Gulen doesn't seem to pose any political threat to Turkey so I have no idea what is behind the witch hunt of this fellow, but you can only speculate that he is in fact stepping on toes behind the scenes and causing turmoil in Turkey.

Shame on Nawaz sharif the feckless loser.

We should all apologize to those teachers for this treatment by our govt. Erdogan is acting like a dictator.

According to PMLN Imran is a yahoodi agent but i wonder if they know Erdogan's govt relationship with Israel and the size of trade between both countries? Compare that with the trade size of both brother islamic countries...

That wouldn't mean India would had closed "schools" funded by USA,Britain just because we were close to Russia.
That's the point of democracy there will always be capitalist and socialist, left and right wing groups and opposition can be made to them.23 schools is too high a numbers.

Its sad, education and that too ones promoting free speech are valuable to a country.Hopefully Erdogan can atleast sponsor education in Pakistan.

Today PMLN leaders are calling Imran Khan an agent of Gulen. I guess they do have some short term memory issues. Maybe they forgot just 4 years ago back in 2012 Honorary PhD was given to Gulen by Punjab University as a gift by PMLN govt.

Each case is different depending on political situation of the time. I have no idea what sort of organisations Gulen runs or who backs them or funds them. You can't say what India would in Pakistan's place because they aren't in that place and never have been. India will always look after it's own interests and act accordingly, and you shouldn't expect Pakistan to do differently.

For my part I make no judgement on the decision, perhaps Nawaz Sharif is in the wrong and so are Turkey. But Pakistan has long standing relations with Turkey and a similar history, we can only presume Gulen has been seen as some sort of threat to Turkish stability and Pakistan has decided to stick with it's trusted long term ally.

Gullen is like a Ghost which the Turkish president sees daily.

Gullen might very well be a bad man who misuses religion but Erdogan thinks that whatever bad happens with Turkey in anyfield behind that is Gullen.

Like those mystical stories of a person dislocating big stones and finding pigs hidden behind them shoots them.

First of all what is the evidence that all these school teachers are followers of Gullen ?

What is the evidence that these school teachers were spreading Gullen's ideology in Pakistan ?

Did they recruit any Pakistani students for Gullen's agenda ?

I hope, wish & pray that these teachers lead a successful professional life in Turkey or any other place and they do not get victimised.

As a weak partner in this Pak Turk relationship we had to compromise. If you say No to Erdogan than forget about mutual cooperation, aid, loan, trade and friendship.

Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday passed a stay order preventing the government from deporting Pak-Turk school officials.

A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Ikramullah heard a writ petition filed by students and parents of Pak-Turk schools.

The petitioners maintained that the federal government had ordered the expulsion of teachers due to a political issue which the teachers had no connection with.

The writ petition mentioned that there were 26 Pak-Turk school campuses across the country, in which around 11,000 students were enrolled.

The PHC issued a stay order on the federal government's earlier order of expulsion of staffers and issued a notice to the federal government to clarify its stance on the issue.

The government issued an order to the Turkish staff of its schools to leave the country ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visit to Pakistan earlier this month.

The Turkish government believes that the Pak-Turk schools are part of a network operated by Fethullah Gulen, a political rival of President Erdogan, and has reportedly called upon Pakistan to close them down.

Turkey declared Gulen’s organisation a terrorist entity after the July 15 failed coup attempt in the country.

The next hearing at PHC will be held on December 1.

Good news finally some sanity prevails, Peshawar High Court issues stay order on the government decision.

LHC stays govt order to deport Pak-Turk school staff

LAHORE: As Turkish teachers and staff working in Pak-Turk schools leave for their country following government’s decision to not extend their visas, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday stopped the deportation of at least 107 instructors from Pakistan.

The government’s decision coincided with the recent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Islamabad during which he addressed a joint session of the National Assembly.

Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of the LHC directed the Ministry of Interior to submit its reply in the court on January 13.

“[As many as] 11,000 students in the country will be affected by the removal of Turkish Foundation schools…it is a violation of fundamental rights… to take away the students’ right of getting education,” advocate Asma Jahangir argued in the petition.

The court also directed the petitioners to formally request the interior ministry for extension of their visas.

The order came days after the Peshawar High Court stayed the ‘abrupt’ deportation of Turkish teachers and their families in Hayatabad, restraining the federal government from taking any action against them.

The closure of Pak-Turk schools has consistently been demanded by the Turkish government, which claims they are backed by the Gülen-inspired Hizmet movement.

Rule of law must prevail. Whoever went against the court order must be tried in court and jailed for a long time...... end of.

This would be a good opportunity for NS to kick a fuss and run and with it till the truth is out as to who planned and executed their deportation. But the coward that he is... will he though?

Any word from PTI chief about this ??

as he used to say nice things about Ardogan.
