India will be focusing on a multilateral agenda at the high-level UN General Assembly (UNGA) session that begins on Tuesday and let Pakistan be a “one-trick pony” on Kashmir if it wants to, India’s Permanent Representative Syed Akbaruddin has said.

The UN works best on the basis of multilateralism and “India’s positions based on partnerships get a great resonance”, he said on Sunday at a news conference while replying to a reporter’s query about the possibility of Pakistan raising Kashmir at the UNGA.

He said: “If some body else would like to be a one-trick pony, it is for them to regurgitate that act. We’ve handled this act many times in the past and are confident we’ll do so again.”

“Solo players in a multilateral context have neither a past nor a future” and get “no resonance in such matters”, he added.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Islamabad would bring up Kashmir at the UNGA and give “unequivocal support to the cause”, Radio Pakistan has reported.

Pakistan has been raising Kashmir at all UN forums, regardless of the topic of the meetings, but no other country has joined it in making it an issue or even talking about it.

During the 2017 UNGA meeting, Pakistani zeal produced a major embarrassment when its Permanent Representative Maleeha Lodhi was caught out trying to pass off a picture of a wounded Palestinian girl as a Kashmiri.

Akbaruddin said that even when India talks about terrorism, it does not treat it as just a bilateral issue but deals with it in the international context of havoc it wreaks around the world, for example the Boko Haram in Africa, and terrorist groups elsewhere.

Led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the UN session, India will focus on five topics: reformed multilateralism, climate change action, health, development and peacekeeping, he said.

Fresh from India’s launch of the world’s biggest public health insurance programme, Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will be joining the Indian delegation to represent the country at a high-level event on Ending Tuberculosis and on Non-Communicable Diseases.

Sushma Swaraj is scheduled to address the UNGA on Saturday at the morning session scheduled to start at 9am Listed as the fifth speaker, she will likely speak around 7.15pm (India time).

Qureshi’s speech is set for Saturday’s afternoon session, which will give him an opportunity to react to Sushma Swaraj’s address.

If he raises issues relating to India, the nation would have a right of reply which could take place towards the end of that session or Monday’s session.

Customarily a junior diplomat exercises the right of reply at the UNGA high-level meeting.

Who cares?

We will continue shouting Kashmir to our grave, as that will sort all the problems in Pakistan.

Keep raising the Kashmiri's voice, it's a moral imperative more than a patriotic duty, who anyway themselves are since few years pretty active on social media with all its impact on the masses, even a head-of-state as relevant as Erdogan touched upon this issue with India last year.

So India does not want to raise an issue of genocide carried out by its own army and government? I am so surprised by this...it's like Israel not wanting to raise the issue of the Palestinian state...surprising.

First, do not let people who do not want anything to do with Pakistan or want to return to Pakistan have any voice to speak for Pakistan.

Pakistan problems aren't tied to Kashmir issue, Pakistan can and should continue to highlight atrocities and oppression by Indian Army in Kashmir, Pakistan's economic problems are due to bad governance and incompetent corrupt leaders, it has nothing do with Kashmir, speaking for Kashmiri, and supporting Kashmiri.

It doesnt matter what I want or dont want.

Just because you reside in a country or outside it shouldnt be the reason your opinion should be rejected.

Actually the more people hate me, the happier I get.

If everyone loves you, you are probably following the dumb, driven cattle.

Sure but those who state they will never return cant then claim to have a say.

India doesn't want Kashmir highlighted because it knows of it's human rights abuses so tries to brush it off. Pakistan has a moral obligation to raise this on every occasion.

I dont mind Pakistan raising it.

If everyone accepts it is just a symbolic gesture which will do no good for another 50 years.

Personally speaking I would raise it on all forums, just to see how seriously Pakistan is taken with regards to this issue.

Did anyone ever think the Soviet Empire would collapse and the Berlin wall come down? Every empire feels invincible but the oppressors will be defeated.

I really hope so.

I want this issue to end so we can look forward to better things.

I also dont want Indian atrocities on poor Kashmiris because they are humans after all.

People seem to think because I want Pakistan to stop fooling itself that it will get Kashmir completely that I dont care about Kashmiris.

I do care.

But I think Pakistan needs to accept that there will be no solution that gives Kashmir entirely to Pakistan.

So do i my friend, and I have often said that the 2 countries could make Kashmir independent and that way neither loses face. But we have a PM that asked for talks not surrender and the Ind govt, which is beholden to the Hindu fascists throw it back in PK face. Ind govt scared of peace as their own existence will be threatened.

I think India at the moment has many other pressing concerns so it cant be bothered to negotiate Kashmir or talk about it.

Plus the problem is most of the Muslim world and even thr United Nations believes its Pakistan and India's internal dispute and no country could be bothered less about it.

Which is why I fear that a stubborn stance on Kashmir as we already see from many Pakpassion people is just going to keep the sufferings of Kashmiris longer.

This isn't High school nor you and I are 13 years old teenager girls, so it has nothing to with hate.

No one know you personally and no one hate no one here.

and that quote about "everyone loves you", a dumbest quote, no one is ever liked by everyone in this world.

Your opinion isn't rejected it is criticized. Just like you are entitle to your opinion, (which was not realistic and would never happen without dialogues, which you seem to be having an issue) everyone is entitle to criticize it.

Pakistan will do well to adhere to already signed agreements with India before coming with a unsolicited offer.

India didnot ask for an offer. India is not bound to accept an offer thats perfectly acceptable everywhere. Understand that please.

Stop confusing Pakistan had demanded to talk.

No Pakistani anywhere had "demanded", try different approach.

First we have to improve life of ordinary Pakistanis before wanting Kashmir to merge with us. Life in Azaad Kashmir that is 2/5 of the valley needs a lot of work done in it.
