What's new

Pakistan (167/5) defeat Bangladesh (146/8) by 21 runs to win the first game of the Tri-series

Can honestly say that BD is a worse version of Pakistan when it comes to T20, 167 can only be enough against BD and now Mohd Wasim have become the Brett Lee Starc.

Who would you want to open? Let's hear the names.

If you believe that 40 without loss in 6 overs is the best T20 pair in the world right now, we can just quit while you are ahead.

Their defining moment.

Helped Pakistan win the series when Wood was playing those matches with 200 plus chases.

If they could hit 200 every game you wouldn't be complaining right, but that's not a realistic expectation. As someone mentioned earlier, it's a team game. Others have to step up, can't always leave it to your top performers.

I mean we literally defended 165 and 140 a week ago in Lahore.

Maybe the quality of bowlers helped them.

The powerplay made the difference for BD

They missed 10-15 runs in the PP

This guy just brutalized Haris Rauf lol Why is he batting so low down the order. He could have made some usful runs against buffet stuff upfront

Rauf goes against the team, when they leak runs, he is tight and when others are tight he is leaking, anyways he is one of the few things going right for the team.

Poor last over there, not a single yorker. He should work on that. At the moment he only bowls back of length or slower one.

What does that even mean? Not all matches are won by 100 run margins. The other team has come out to play as well.

Well as I said, if you want to bury your head in the sand and assume Pakistan are a very competitive side against top teams you can just wait for the T20 World Cup.

Wasim will be an asset in sub cont tests with his reverse hope we don't discard him based on poor T 20 output tests especially in subcont will be his strong suite.

I usually enjoy NZ coverage due to the picturesque grounds. Very pleasant atmosphere. But today coverage was a let down.

Please don't say fixers like some Sharjeel.

I would try Asif.

Heck even Shadab.

But its useless naming names, when the "Chosen Pair" refuse to entertain any thought of a break up.

I have no such delusion. We are a long way from being a top side but Rizwan is not the reason why. The middle order being the worst in the world is though.

And we did make it to the semifinals of the last WC.

Broadcasting quality was pathetic to say the least. They even did not know the names of players. Dahani was bowling and stats of M.wasim was showing one time. Cameraman don't know where the ball is going and ball remain lost most of the times. The pak-England series was way way better than this.

BD t20 is pure comedy. Makeshift openers idea was meant to give flying start, both played old ODI style as openers, playing for themselves. Stupid idea to begin with. Sabbir is flashy but not there in the head, little early fame got to some of them. Miraz opener? That itself is an insult to the opening position. Stop confusing yourself And the team. Put Soumya Sarkar and Liton das opening set for next dozen T20. Best pair possible.

Fantastic English from Rizwan, seems to have really worked on his speaking skills as well. Babar really needs to learn from him

Based on what. No seriously, why do you think it will work. You want to put Asif against a pacers who will be able to get swing first up and bowl short too, when he has shown absolutely no ability to bat at all. Let's not forget he can't seem to bat more than 5 balls when he is promoted up the order and he can play spin as well.

Shadab bats for Islamabad at 3/4. He should be batting there for Pakistan no question. But he is again not an opener, not does he want to be.

Thats the truth.

Infact, if you remove him, other batsmen will chip in with 20s and 30s and Pakistan would still end up with 160 to 170.

I know the reason.

I can even tell what it is.

But most fans refuse to acknowledge this at all.

Rizwan seems to be more consistent than Babar recently. Is Babar really the "King"?

A good Rizwan and Babar partnership is like wishing for Afridi to go past 30 runs in a match. Happens once in a blue moon.

One of them should let the opening position go and make the middle order stronger. In the powerplay Fakhar/Asif Ali/Haider Ali can do better as openers.

We got good batsmen but our captain is not good at utilizing them on proper positions.

People don't acknowledge it because there is no merit to it.

Good news for Pakistan that you have found another reliable batter in Shan Masood. Now if Fakhar gets back in form, you suddenly have a team that can do very well at the World T20.

Nurul Hasan | Losing captain - Disappointed, the wicket was good, but I think we need to improve in a few areas. The bowlers did well, but we can tweak in a few areas, but then we lost too many wickets in the middle. Litton and Afif batted well, so did Yasir, they're some positives. Taskin bowled well and took a few wickets for us,

Babar Azam | Winning captain - I am very happy, winning gives us a lot of confidence, we started and finished well. We were happy as a batting group, our plan was to get around 50 runs in the batting PP. Shan (Masood) and Rizwan batted well, he stayed till the end and took us to a good score. The wind was a factor and the bowlers used it to good effect. Every match is a big game, we will look forward to the opportunity of playing against good teams.

Mohammed Rizwan | Player of the Match - Always nice to do with the bat for Pakistan. We just kept things simple (himself and Babar), it was a good batting track to be honest, the ball came on nicely and we did really well with both bat and ball. I always use spikes, but it was a bit slippery today. We play well with each other (himself and Babar), I always believe in hard work to get results. They were big boundaries on one side, but we played each ball on merit. One boundary was long, so we did have a lot of running as well.

Usual memorised statement that’s the mantra of this side “we keep things simple”. I.e. who cares about improvements

Despite the incapability of Bdesh we still made a match out of it only 21 runs

wasnt impressive at all..where is the Bangla big boys Tamim..mush and Saqib etc we would have lost the match if they played. 110 for 2 after 15 overs I mean who bats like that it was not even a PAR total and if Yasir had come earlier who knows he is defo a big hitter

Mohammad Rizwan underlined why he will be a key weapon for Pakistan at the Twenty20 World Cup, top-scoring in a 21-run win over Bangladesh in Christchurch on Friday.

Rizwan maintained his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 78 as Pakistan posted 167-5, before restricting their opponents to 146-8.

It was the opening match of a week-long tournament, which also includes hosts New Zealand. All three teams are using it to prepare for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

The world's top-ranked T20 batsman, Rizwan batted through the innings in cold conditions at Hagley Oval, tallying seven fours and two sixes in a chanceless 50-ball knock.

It was the 30-year-old's 21st half-century in the format, continuing his form from last month's T20 series against England, when he compiled a series-leading 316 runs.

His average in the format of 54.34 stands alone among the top 150 run-scorers. The next best is India's Virat Kohli (50.84).

Rizwan's best support on a tricky, two-paced wicket came from Shan Masood (31 off 22 balls), following an opening stand of 52 with captain Babar Azam (22 off 25) while Taskin Ahmed (2-25) was Bangladesh's best bowler.

Rizwan said being patient after being sent in laid the foundation for a winning score.

"Early on the ball was a little bit grippy but me and the skipper decided to keep things simple," he said.

"We did very well but I thought we were 10 to 15 runs short on this kind of pitch.

"After that, the bowlers bowled very well to the plan."

Bangladesh's chase tailed off after Liton Das (35) and Afif Hossain (25) put on a slick 50 for the third wicket from 34 balls.

Some late hitting from Yasir Ali (42 not out) restored respectability while speedster Mohammad Wasim (3-24) enjoyed late success with the yorker.

Players from both teams regularly slipped on a surface made hard by unexpected weather conditions earlier in the week.

A cold blast left ground staff sweeping snow from the covers and outfield on Thursday morning.

Temperatures hovered around a relatively warm 12 degrees Celsius (54F) throughout the match, the earliest ever staged in a New Zealand home season.

New Zealand will play Pakistan on Saturday and Bangladesh on Sunday, both at the same venue.
