"Pakistan are favourites due to the psychological advantage after the CT final" : Sunil Gavaskar

Some quotes from Salaam Cricket show:

"The competitive atmosphere in an India-Pakistan match creates extra pressure, some players can take it and many can't. Players who perform in those matches gain so much confidence that they can go on and perform against any team. This pressure is only accessible with India-Pakistan games" : Wasim Akram

"I was once facing Wasim and he dug one in short. Until then, he was pitching it up. The short ball climbed quickly and I managed to let it go under my armpit, but it surprised Saleem Yousuf and went to fine leg for a bye. As I took a single, I said to Imran (who was the captain) 'Yaar this kid can bowl fast huh'... Imran said 1-2 of the typical Punjabi galis to Wasim... saying that he was telling him to bowl fast but Wasim was more interested in swinging the ball" : Sunil Gavaskar

"On paper India is obviously the favourite for this encounter. India's batting is very good for these pitches but Virat missing out will give the Pakistani bowlers a psychological boost" : Wasim Akram

"Pakistan is the favourite because of the psychological advantage they have after beating India in the CT final. You don't think about the previous game but it always stays at the back of your mind and creates some uncertainty. Virat's absence will be crucial as well" : Sunil Gavaskar

"Coming from England, maybe Virat Googled Dubai's weather and say 42 degrees and decided it's better to rest" : Wasim Akram :ashwin

"Fitness is paramount for Mickey Arthur and that's why Pakistan is a very good fielding side. We never heard that before or said it before but this Pakistani side is one of the best fielding sides we've had in a long, long time" : Wasim Akram

"For 7 years after I started playing cricket, my waistline was the same. In 1978, we went to Pakistan. In Lahore, the lunch room was near the dressing room. The aroma of the food would come in so no matter how much you'd control it, you'd go in... and of course have the dessert. When I came back (to India), my waist increased my 2 inches just due to the Pakistani food. Again for 4 years, I maintained it then we went to Pakistan in 82/83 and again the same thing happened and my waistline increased. Since then, it's been the same because I haven't been to Pakistan" : Sunil Gavaskar

"In the Leeds Test in 1987, Imran bhai had taken 9 wickets in the match and the last batsman came out to bat. It was Graham Dilley and he couldn't bat at all. I had 5 balls left in the over so Imran bhai said to bowl outswingers. I bowled and he missed all of them. Then Imran bhai came on to bowl and cleaned him up with an inswinger... later on I came to realise that it was due to his 10 wicket haul (that he asked me to bowl outswingers)" : Wasim Akram

Agree, a very easy win for Pakistan coming up. Anything else will be the biggest upset of century

Not just psychological . Pakistan are just a better team. Better bowlers, better fielding, better fitness and better coach and captain. Even batting wise there's hardly any difference. India winning is a huge upset.

I respect wasim’s cricketing acumen but honestly some of his real time commentary is just a bit kooky. This bit about those players being able to handle pressure of India Pak game doing better everywhere else is a myth. For much of the 90’s while Pakistan had the better of India, wasim and co were being regularly pummeled by South Africa and Australia

Who to believe? :13:

All of the pressure is on Pakistan. This must be the first time in a while where we are the favourites against them. Let's see if we can cope with it.

Ok I'm getting tensed now. We never do well when we go in as favourites.

bhai ye buhat ziada hogai hai..

As per people who put their money where their mouth is, India has 56% chance of winning, Pakistan has 44%. From ODIs perspective, this means fairly closely matched teams with hardly anything to chose between.

Oh the pre-game declarations :yk

Nothing mean zilch in Pak v IND. It's not like Indian XI will role over for CT champs :yk

Momentum, psychological advantage - no cricket pundit talks about these two terms as much as Mr. Gavaskar does. Having listened to his commentary for over two decades now, safe to say he absolutely loves these (and his favorite '1s into 2s' , follow the basics etc). He is the expert and an ATG, so I can't even say he isn't right.

Ok I'm getting tensed now. We never do well when we go in as favourites.

A lot has changed in our cricket now from the hay days. This team is mentally stronger than our past teams hence they should handle pressure of big games better I would reckon ..

Kohli also not playing is a big advantage for us. I think we will win on Wednesday.

180 run defeat was humiliating for India in the final, they will be up for this one.

50/50 game with whoever who bats first winning if they score above par.

Wait, Pakistan are favourites?

Pakistan traditionally struggle in a run chase against India, think Pakistan's chances improve dramatically by posting a big total and defendng.

Sorry but given the record since 2003, it is India who has the upper hand against Pakistan.

Pakistan will be favourites - it's a no-brainer.
I think Wasim is just being respectful - as he is always.
Gavaskar is telling the hard truth.

Pakistan's wins usually revolve around dismantling Indian batting for not much. If Pak bowl to their skill levels, it's their game for the taking.

Whats more concering is its not just the indian experts but indians fans as well who look like they already have surrendered and accepted defeat.

This is not fun man. :(

Pakistan are favourites in Asia Cup, says Sanjay Manjrekar

MUMBAI: Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar believes India are one of the main contenders to lift the ongoing Asia Cup, but tipped Pakistan as the favourites given the neighbour country has been playing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) regularly.

Pakistan have begun their Asia Cup campaign routing minnows Hong Kong by eight wickets on Sunday and have the added advantage of playing in the UAE, their "home" ground.

India, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, would start their campaign Tuesday against Hong Kong, which is a dress rehearsal for their marquee clash with arch-rivals Pakistan the next day.

"I think Pakistan start as favourites more than India, because they have been playing in those conditions (in the UAE) for a while now and it's a team which is on the surge.

"India, of course, are resting Virat (Kohli), which takes a lot of strength away from the team," Manjrekar said.

He was quizzed whether in the absence of Kohli, India were the favourites going into the tournament.

"India are obviously one of the contenders, but when you look at favouritism, (question arises) which team can be rated as the strongest.

"It's Pakistan because of where it (the tournament) is being played," explained Manjrekar.

According to Manjrekar, who donned the national colour in 37 Tests and 74 One Day Internationals, the wrist spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav has made the Indian team more balanced.

"India is a very good 50 overs outfit. India in the Test matches struggled a bit overseas, but if you look at their 50-over record, it's very good in all conditions.

"Earlier, India had batting strength but the bowling did not quite measure up.

Now they also have game changers in the middle, so the team wins more matches than it used to because of Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the middle. It's a more balanced 50 overs team in a long, long time," said Manjrekar.

India are trying to settle their middle order woes and Manjrekar insisted that Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer should get a look-in ahead of the next year's ICC World Cup in England.

"At the moment Ambati Rayadu, Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey are in the fray. Kedar Jadhav is also there, but I would like to see Shreyas Iyer get a look-in before the World Cup. K L Rahul will get (to bat at) number three, because Virat is not there," he said.

"We will have a look at him (Rahul) and he is also another middle order option for India. So it is very important (to settle middle order woes).

"Because India need a couple of in-form reliable middle-order batsmen. So every match from now on would actually be about settling that (middle order) issue and most of the other areas are taken care of," he signed off.

Now they have come up with "knock knock neighbour", "knock them out". I thought they would be little respectable towards their opponents this time around but no , another embarrassment is waiting in the wings for them after "aane do" and " mauka mauka"...

Just saw the ad. India makes the memes, we take advantage of them :ashwin.

India were favourites against Pakistan in the CT final but no one expected Pak to win, not just that but absolutely hammer them.

Honestly I think it’s a 50/50 match. India still have plenty of quality players and match winners, even with out Kohli though they willl obviously miss him.

It may come down to batting first and getting a decent score as it’s not easy to chase big scores on UAE wickets.

Very true, Pakistan are overwhelming favourites. India without Kohli will struggle if the top 2 get out within 10 overs.

agreed !We are better team for sure , whatever the result of this encounter may be.

Now their media is hyping up our team so that we underperform and we feel the pressure. The truth is if India doesn't reach the final it will be a tragedy. Without a doubt they are the best ODI team in the world even without Kohli. Their media is under hyping their team since the last time their overconfidence lead to their team's defeat.

Indians never handle the favorites tag well, so nice try, but honestly Indians are a far better cricketing side regardless of the venue. Pakistan has improved but still a long way to go

I do not think Kohli would have made much difference. Pak is too strong.

Stop over-hyping us. IDK why but last couple of days everyone is saying Pakistan will win but i'm not so sure what changed so fast. India are only missing one player not 3 or 4 so why this change of attitude.

Bhai Pak strong hai to strong hai, nothing wrong in accepting the fact. India will give fight but still not good enough.

What comedy! Pakistan fans think India will win and Indian fans think Pakistan will win.

I am sorry to disagree with Pakistani fans though- Pakistan are favourites.

I think Pakistan fans are downplaying their own team because of their own nervousness and not wanting the team to be labelled favorites.

For the first time in many years Pakistan is hands on favorite to win this game.

If you say anything else, you are just lying to give yourself breathing space just in case the unexpected happens (which would mean India winning).

Scenario 1 : Indians say India is favourite to win. India's record in last 15 years is better. Pakistanis reply that their team will beat India and prove them wrong.

Scenario 2 : Indians say Pakistan is favourite to win. Pakistanis say that India is hard to beat and India's record in last 15 years is better.

Nobody wants to be called favourites.

That's not true. India has been labelled favourites in the past in games between the two sides and the fans agreed too but this time, Pakistan is the better team so they are favourites. Indian fans are not trying to avoid jinxing the team, they are just trying to stay realistic. This Indian team selection is horrible and without Kohli, the batting will struggle with a poor middle order.

This!

Pakistan are runaway favorites to win Asia cup, not just tomorrow's game. In case India somehow wins, it'll be a miracle!!

The last time we were favorites for a tournament. It was the Champions Trophy 2013, and we lost all 3 of those games in the group rounds..

You were never favourites for that CT. Only some ppers hyped that team. Your bowling attack was brilliant thanks to the javelin thrower :ajmal2 but the snail paced batting was always bound to flop.

I remember reading an article after we defeated South Africa in a warm up game (Quite comprehensively at that) saying Pakistan can on and win this tournament... I can't find it myself right now but I was obviously psyched hearing that in 2013

Not psychological.

It's just because Kohli isn't there.

I actuality think Kholi not being with team may help us reduce the margin of defeat from 180 to a respectable number this time.

Whats more concering is its not just the indian experts but indians fans as well who look like they already have surrendered and accepted defeat.

This is not fun man. :(

Be a pleasant surprise if we win this.

No Kohli for starters, which is 50% of our 'aura'.

I dont think these things have ever mattered in India Pakistan matches. Going by same logic India shoukd have smahed Pakistan in the final they had momentum of 3-4 successive wins against them.

Its all about who manages the nerves better on the given day and performs. Could be either of the two teams both are blessed with a lot of talent in this format particukarly

There is a reason Indians thinks that Pakistan has a upper hand. Not only because Virat decided to take off, its the selection of the team aswell. Pakistan is definitely the team to beat in this Asia Cup. The team is the most well balanced out of the lot.

Quite true, but we even managed to botch chasing only 260 at the WC in Mohali after a fine display by the bowling.

If you are chasing 260 with Hafeez, Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq in the ODI side, I back even Afghanistan to defend it in world Cup semi final.

Yeah that's the point, even now, Pakistan's batting is still unpredictable.

We won 2011 WC , we were one of the favs.

Though Pakistan has an advantage I find Rohit to be too good as a captain. It won't be a single sided affair like last time, we can expect a cracker of a game.

Well yesterday's game proved that this will be a win for Pakistan and India will struggle to put up a decent total.

bhai india missing kohli
have grandad dhoni
shardul trundler
axar is our darter!

indian media knows this is the worst team ever with shastri leading as champion of fools

Haan bhai kidher gaye saaray Pakistan are favorites... I told you we never handle the favorites tag well :)
