Pakistan finished off the fourth ODI in style, with Shoaib Malik hitting back to back boundaries to conclude a domineering victory over Sri Lanka, who had managed 173 against a relentless bowling attack in the match played in Sharjah on Friday.

The in-form Babar Azam hit a comfortable 69 off 101 balls. He was accompanied by Shoaib Malik (69 off 81). The two took the team over the finish line with a final volley of fours and sixes, securing Pakistan's fourth consecutive victory in the ODI series against a beleaguered Sri Lankan side.

They two had put on a solid 119-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the side home.

Muahmmad Hafeez had earlier been caught in the deep for 9 off 19 trying to hit a boundary against Seekuge Prasanna.

Zaman had been stumped earlier at 17 when he missed a Dhanajaya delivery that spun big.

Imam-ul-Haq — who had made a century on debut in the third ODI — was dismissed on two, leg before wicket, by Lahiru Gamage.

Earlier, the number one ranked ODI bowler, Hassan Ali, kept his streak going and took three wickets for 37.

Lahiru Thirimanne made the only notable contribution to the Sri Lankan innings, making 62 in 94 balls before being dismissed by Imad Wasim. Suranga Lakmal was not out for 23 at the end of the innings.

Shadab Khan took two wickets on his first two balls of the match, dismissing Seekuge Prasanna and Thisara Perera.

Milinda Siriwardana was caught in the deep by debutant Usman Khan Shinwari when he hooked Hassan Ali.

Back to back-wickets fell in the 11th over when Dinesh Chandimal was run out by Sarfraz Ahmed and debutant Sadeera Samarawickrama was bowled by Imad Wasim.

Shinwari struck early, dismissing Sri Lankan skipper Upul Tharanga for a duck on the second delivery of his first over, leaving Sri Lanka 2-1 in the second over of the match.

Niroshan Dickwella was caught facing Junaid Khan after scoring 22 off 16 balls in the fifth over.

Both teams played a debutant today, with Pakistan giving a chance to Shinwari while Sadeera Samarawickrama made his debut for Sri Lanka.

Shinwari replaced Rumman Raees in the team.

Meanwhile, Hassan Ali's five-for in the third ODI helped him clinch the top position in the International Cricket Council's ODI rankings. His teammate Muhammad Hafeez — who was reported for suspect bowling action in the last ODI — also continues to hold the number one spot in the ODI all-rounder rankings.

Should not Malik be the MoM in this case as he also scored same number of run, but quicker?

By the time Malik came in there was not as much pressure vs. when Babar came into bat.

Malik inning was crucial. I think the MOTM should have gone to Hasan Ali.

Moral Victory for Sri Lanka: twice they have denied Babar Azam a centruy and also broke his streak of consecutive centuries in UAE.

Believe me - if our batting had not clicked, we would not have won this

Nonsense, there was plenty of batting to come. It was Hasan who made sure the score was so low. He deserved it.

Babar has "Man of the Series" on lock down now.

Complete domination.

Averaging 101.00 for the series. :))

Onwards and upwards. 4-0.

Good to see the team showing a ruthlessness though the failure of the openers and the sloppy fielding was a concern.

Shoaib Malik should have won MOTM, even Babar Azam said that Malik scored the bulk of the runs in their partnership

They are chasing 174, not 374. :danish

Should have gone to the standout bowler. Which was Hasan as usual. If only to make up for not giving it to him in the last match.

Anyway, good for Babar to get a MoM award... after having made 300+ runs in the series.

Isn't it nice that we're arguing over MoM awards rather than match ka mujrim? :srini

This argument about MoM award feels so good

so do you agree that...

most deserving: Hassan
2nd most deserving : Malik

and then comes Babur

?

Babar Azam has won so many MOM awards in such a short career already and Misbah could not win a single one inspite of so many inconsequential knocks

I would put Babar and Malik's innings on the same level. I didn't see them but Babar batted against the new ball which is a plus for him while Malik paced his innings better, which is a plus for him though it doesn't really matter in such a small chase.

Semantics :malik

Two of Hasan's three wickets where tailenders.

When a team puts in a collective bowling performance, the one with better statistics generally wins it.

Half of the reason I wanted him to win is because he should've won the award in the previous match. :fz

Congrats fellas Abdullah719 shaz619 well played to Pakistan too good for our lot. Minnows gonna be minnows. Worst part is seeing Tharanga scoring runs and Perera taking wickets. At least Kapugedera got injured.

We gotta make changes
It's time for us as a team to start making some changes
Let's change the way we bat,
Let's change the way we bowl
And let's change the way we field
You see the old way ain't working
So it's on us to do what we gotta do, to survive
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat that's just the way it is

Some things will never change

Misbah took your team to number one in Tests; Remember to be grateful and dont lapse to your regular posting style.

I disagree, Sri Lanka are in fact a very strong team and they've shown glimpses of it in this series - with the talent they have at hands, they are ANYTHING but minnows.

This series just came at the wrong time, a time when a lot of good players were out of the team for one reason or the other. With Gunathikala, Kusal Perera, Mathews and Gunaratne coming back, I'm sure it'll be a much stronger side. Especially considering the rise of Gamage, Dickwella and that young offie who bowls googlies.

These SL selectors are way too obsessed with TTFs, no idea what Chandimal/Thirimanne/Kapugedera are doing there.

I actually agree with ExpressPacer that the team would look a lot better if Kusal/Gunathilaka/Mathews/Gunaratne were there. Mendis' loss of form has been a blow as well, it all went downhill for him after he copied Hasan's celebration. :sanga

Still, in a really bad rut this year... I think it's 4 wins in 25 matches or something now.

MoM's have absolutely zero importance for me, personally I'd give it to ones who either won you the game or absolutely changed the rhythm of the game. Unfortunately, it's being given to the most run scorer or highest wicket takers...who are not always meant to be appreciated.

:))) you legend , KingKhanWC what you think of the lankan remix lol

The win in the test series shows that all hope is not lost when it comes to lankan cricket and there is some talent, they just need to build some momentum to get their confidence up; when it's down even the better teams fall

When was the last time Pakistan whitewashed a non-minnow in an ODI series?

:salute

Actually they had exact equal number of runs scored in their innings.

Should have gotten shared MoM :srt

lol, nice poetry very encouraging .

Lanka look down and out, a win in the last game will be a big shock to even them imo.

2pac Changes remix ft SL_fan :))

Lanka have a tendency to look absolutely dreadful but they can also shock you as we saw in the Champions Trophy when they beat India, there is potential there and moving forward their board need to do a better job getting the best out of their resources

Potential is there no doubt but SLC and co will make sure that none of it will ever be realised. That's the bottleneck. Rubbish domestic set up but still no sign of things changing due to board politics (votes), no consistency with selections (good luck trying to rebuild with TTFs given countless chances), no forward planning or direction, substandard coaches and support staff (drove Ford away so don't even have a proper head-coach atm), only one of the top nine without a decent T20 league still, below par facilities, corruption and mismanagement, the list just goes on and on. Once Herath retires sadly that might well be the final nail in the coffin. When you look at the competition the players are certainly up against it.
