The Question is Simple.

In the event of a victory against arch-rivals India in the finals of Champions Trophy, would you rate it as the most cherished and memorable National triumph for Pakistan Cricket ?

Would you rate it higher than the 92 WC Victory or the T20 2009 Finals in England?

We are aware about the nostalgia associated with 92 WC and Cornered Tigers of Imran which is still mesmerized to this day by the fans and the players who look forward to witness a similar triumph in their career.

Would the victory on Sunday be remembered for generations to come like the 92 WC Victory or T20 2009 which captures and unites the entire Nation?

If Pakistan goes on to defeat India and win the CT, would you rate it higher than 92 WC and T20 2009 victory?

Higher than 2009 T20 WC, but lower than 92 ODI WC.

1) 1992 ODI WC
2) CT 2017 ( If Pakistan Wins)
3) T20 2009 WC

What makes CT special is that India is in the finals or the victory well be memorable but nothing can ever surpass 92 win IMO, because it was the first of it's kind and anything else after that would always be something which has already been achieved before.

Achieving something for the first time is special. Only a Victory against India in an ODI WC Finals can surpass it for me.

Yes, I don't remember much of the T20 world cup in 09, and I didn't watch the 92 final live. So for me this would be the biggest win in pakistan history that I have witnessed.

Lol @ some Pakistan fans who were claiming how this so called CT Finals is biggest India-Pakistan match ever even above the Mohali Semis :))

But for themselves the WC Finals are more special.

Wouldn't be above T20 WC, that was still a world cup. Champions Trophy feels more like a warm up tournament to see where things stand before the ODI world cup. Nice to win, but the world cup is better, and even if you win the Champions Trophy, you never really feel you're best in the world if you didn't win the world cup.

Even a T20 world cup, when you win, you feel you're the best in T20s. So yeah I'd rank Champions Trophy below. We haven't won a tournament for some time though, would mean a lot to Pak fans if we pulled it off.

92'
17'
09'

I would rate this as the 2nd biggest cricket match I have watched as of yet

1st India pak semi
This match

Yes & No. Yes for this generation because what the 1992 generation doesn't realize is that none of us saw the 1992 WC final. I was 2-3 years old at the time.

And by guessing the average age of PP posters. I would say that most of us saw first cricket world cup in 1996 or 1999. So while our elders constantly romanticized the 92 tournament & we are shown 92 WC Centric interviews even in 2017, it did not register with us the way it did with the people that watched that tournament alive.I must say I am jealous of the people who watched 1992 WC live especially the final. Most of my generation remember the 1999 WC tournament & 2009 T20 because that was the peak that we enjoyed as Pakistani Fans. Hence you will find many posters here saying that bar the final 1999 WC was the best for them. I too share the sentiment.

So in a way today's teens will have something to cherish about rather relying on old interviews and highlights of old pak team.

No because nothing and i mean nothing beats World cup. CT is second biggest trophy & winning it would be special but it doesn't beat the glory & the feeling of snatching the ultimate prize of them all.

In terms of significance 92 triumph is unmatched but if we win tomorrow then it ease the pain of Jo'burg 2007

If we win then it would be the greatest victory I've ever seen and also the first time seeing my team lifting an ICC trophy.

You didn't see even Pakistan lifting T20 WC in 2009 ?

Wow, then this finals would be very special for you.

Yeah my first one was the 2011 WC, one of the best ICC tournaments I have ever seen with one of the best Pak sides ever. This final is giving me memories of Mohali 2011, how I was so disappointed that day.

Why didn't you watch 2009 T20 WC Final?

Because I was young at the time to be watching cricket, started from ICC 2011 WC and have literally caught up with everything to do with Pak cricket and cricket in general.

How many actually were alive and saw the 92 moment live in their day? I think for young kids this moment would be the happiest as a cricket fan.. For older folks ofcourse 92 would be on top..

This will be ahead of 92. This team is going to beat India in the final and this team doesn't comprise of any star .

How could you even afford to miss T20 Win in 2009 ? That's just pathetic.

Because I was young at the time we lifted it? I wasn't even born when we won 1992 so I'm not as happy as you are at the fact that we snagged those trophies. If it makes you feel any better I've watched the highlights on youtube.

Well said I was only 1 year old during the 92 WC and my first real memory of cricket is Wasim Akram ripping out Damain Martyn's stumps in the Aussies vs Pak group match in the 99 WC.

For our generation the 2009 WC was the first major tournament victory that we witnessed with our own eyes.

I actually started watching cricket in the summer of 1992 in England - after the World Cup cup win.

But I still remember vividly the day we won because my dad and so many of my relatives were celebrating that Pakistan had won and achieved something spectacular but I had little idea what it was but soon understand.

Nothing will beat 1992 but I will rate this CT win above the 2009 20/20 win because this will be against our arch rivals in a final.

I don't think it can be in any way bigger than the World Cups, we won an Asia Cup a few years ago, no one remembers it anymore.

If we happen to win, it will rank far above the other trophies. I mean just look at the amount of fun the Indian Media and Sehwag made of this team, with comments about how far Pakistan was behind the rest of the world, couple that in with comments that even Bangladesh is a better side than Pakistan e.t.c, this will be a huge moral boost for the nation no doubt and will keep Pakistan Cricket alive in front of the entire world that we are still surviving in spite of all these problems.

Lol I would say this is lower than even 2009 T20 WC, much less 1992 WC (which will never ever be matched).

It will be a great win, but no need to inflate it's significance artificially.

It would be the greatest win I have seen, as I wasn't born in 1992 and this victory will surely be bigger than 2009.

Are you kidding me? Look at our rankings when we came to the tournament, there was even talk of whether Pakistan would qualify for the 2019 WC, look at the amount of fun Sehwag and co made fun of the Pakistani team.

Pakistan in 1992 was still a decent ranked side with so many talented players. Even in 2009 we had a squad of very good players and were a decent ODI and T-20 team.

This victory if it does happen in the final will be us rising above everything else.

Lol no

What kinda question is this

I'm an Indian but nonetheless always been a fan of Pakistan cricket.

If Pakistan wins it should surely be a bigger win than 2009 WT20, but nothing can still beat 1992 WC.

More than 2009 T20 Final, but less than 1992 WC.

People saying T20 is more important because it's a world cup, I think that;s just a customary title.

There is and can only be 1 REAL world cup, and this is the official 50 over world cup.

This t20 WC only came to light 10 years ago, ICC champions trophy has more history and the way our ODI team was completely dead pan and like a fish out of water against major ODI outfits like England (4-1) loss, Australia (4-1 again) and then the embarrassing loss to india in the group stages leading up to our dream run will make this all the more sweeter.

As for folks saying 2009 is a greater title because 2009 was a dark year, bhaijaan, every year since then has been a dark year more or less.

I only vaguely Remember 92. Obviously I've reviewed it since but I only really remember my brothers watching it whilst I had to go to sleep. I was only small at the time.

So yes this will be my biggest moment in limited overs cricket because I'm living this

Why would this be above 92?

Simply put

World Cups > Champions Trophies

It'll rank 3rd...won't beat 92 or 09.

All the best to PAK. This win would rank higher than 09 simply because we may have not even qualified!.

Great to see this string of matches we have put together.

People really need to get over the Sehwag thing. It's banter.

Jut because it's unexpected doesn't mean it's a bigger win. I will enjoy it but World t20 was more important, and if you think this is more significant than 1992 you're just a kid. Pakistan were dead ducks in that tournament and even getting through to the knockouts was a miracle.

That is not the entire story. Definitely above 09 as that was T20 and this is ODI.

Probably above 92, as who are we kidding? For Pakistanis, to beat India in the final to win a World tournament sure beats losing to India in 1992 and then going on to win the tournament.

1) 1992 WC
2) 2009 T20 WC
3) CT 2017

While I didn't watch the 92 WC (wasn't born!) I'd imagine it ranks #1 due to the event's value. It's the biggest cricketing event and has been for decades.

Same applies to the T20 victory in a lesser sense.

This would be a major win against an arch-rival but it's not a World Cup.

Yes if we win today against india.

92 was the flukiest tournament victory ever for any mediocre team. Lost to literally everyone+ rain.

2009 we peaked at the right time but we used to be one of the top T20 sides back then

2017 we are 8th ranked side, we had to qualify for this tournament by competing with lowly ranked sides and running away from zimbabwe series. we just lost two openers who would have been opening for us in CT if they werent banned. New captain and no expectation of even playing semi finals.
If we manage to beat India today then i would rate this victory better than the past tournament wins.

How does it feel boys to witness our first major 50 over trophy since 1992 WC and probably first in our (most people on PP who i think are aged 20-30 like me) lifetime?

I am over the moon right now and I am sure we all be telling stories about this match to our kids in coming years.

As I posted earlier this would be the biggest win for me ;) and that it was, I will remember this for the rest of my life..

It's greater than 2009 but below 1992. World Cup > Champions Trophy > WT20.

This is what winning a tournament does. The excitement and euphoria that lifting a trophy generates cannot be matched by any Test series win. If Pakistan wins a Test series in Australia or South Africa, you won't see people going crazy on the streets, TV channels paying tributes and social media in overdrive etc. Apart from some cricket nerds, no one will give two hoots.

I won't trade this Champions Trophy win with any Test series win. It is among the top three moments in history of Pakistan cricket and will be cherished forever.
