What exactly is Asif Ali doing in the slips, Babar Azam should be there.

Result is a dropped catch.

Pakistan fielding suffering a lot after Rixons departure. We did better against England but seems back to normal now.

Today, anyone standing in the slip would need hands of stone to survive. It's so damn cold in Taunton that the fielder risks breaking his fingers if he even catches one in the slips, especially the ones sliced hard.

Should use hand warmers!

At this level, you need to catch those.

They must have been practicing for the majority of last 9 odd days in such cold in any case

This is a grassroot problem. This has being going on for decades. Dropping dollies is a norm. I will never forget a dolly dropped by Tanvir against Bangladesh in 2012 T20 WC. That dolly takes the cake everytime.

I think Wahab must be unpopular with his teammates, that's why they keep dropping off of his bowling.

The domestic sides don't set minimum fielding standards and hold players accountable for failing to meet those standards. They should drop any player, regardless of ability, if they cannot do the basics.

It could well be the cold weather for our guys.

This always happens in key games. This is signs of not being able to handle pressure.

Cold weather is hardly any excuse on this level. I for once also grew up in Pakistan and when we play cricket here in April May temp is around 10-15 degree and even in sunday league people take catches. May be it is painful but they are professionals being paid to play.

At least 5 catches have been dropped off wahab's bowling. He should have had 8-9 wickets this tournament thanks to pathetic Pakistani fielders and I m really furious at Asif today if I were in position of wahab I would have given him something

Fielding has clearly regressed since Rixon left the team. He was a tough task master.

Pakistan were knocked out of the World Cup 2011 and 2015 due to fielding, and it seems the trend looks good to continue the next 40 years. It´s 2019 and a team still hasn´t got an as basic thing right as fielding, whereas other teams´ fielders very regularly take catches and save even sixes by stepping over the boundary in the air. This must be very hurting and hard to take for the die-hard fans. Poor, very poor from the whole system.

Patethic fielding by Asif Ali and Malik today and they didn't even make up for it with the bat. Thank you very much

Asif ali has to be one of the worst fielders going around. However on the brighter side our ground fielding was much better during the second half of the australian innings.

Players running with wooden legs and fielding with buttery fingers. The fielding was sub-par, not at the level of a World Cup tournament

Would really love to see some in-depth analysis of every single run we have given to the opposition through misfields and overthrows. Also, a note of dropped catches, and how much the batsman went on to make.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I very strongly believe if our fielding was up to Australia or England's standard we would have won a couple matches in the England series and also have beaten Australia yesterday.

Matter of fact starting on Sunday vs India I'll keep a note of the misfields and dropped catches and how many runs it costs us, will be good to see.

Pakistan as Fielding Unit, How can they improve?

As I mentioned in other thread Pakistan should look for skilled players rather than picking up players based on reputation. In todays match we lost because we made big mistake by opting to bowl first because as we all know how bad chaser we are. If you are brave enough to bowl first then you got to have a good fielding unit. Rohiat Sharma was given a life because of wrong throw and he capitalized the chance.

So what PCB can do to fix this issue?

Make batting paradises & lush green outfields in domestic cricket where players get more opportunities to dive & catch the ball.
Introduce financial bonuses against each catch & run out scored in domestic matches.
Fielding trials should be compulsory for any domestic/youth/franchise team selection.
Use international standard balls in domestic cricket (not the heavy in weight sialkoti copies of kookabura)

Pakistani Fielders Bandages

Can someone explain to me as to why Pakistan is the only team with just about every fielder having their fingers heavily strapped?

There are a 1-2 in other teams but Pakistani fielders seem to the majority.

When I catch, I need to be able to be able to feel the ball so my hands can close around the ball.

Doesn't this affect the feelings of the hands?

Noticed this also. Imam has both hands completely wrapped up. Soft players, mentally and physically. Can't win when players take the ball as a bomb. Pathetic.

Pakistani players are not used to the colder climate and not with the best techniques hurt their hands and fingers more often than others while training. Also due to general lack of fielding culture hands are not that strong as compared to some other teams who are training correctly since early childhood most of our players play soft tape ball cricket for first 10-15 years of their life and are scared of a cricket ball for life.

I asked the question after carefully watching Indian and Bangaldeshee fielders, most of them have no strapping whatsoever.

Out of the 3, I would say that Pakistan has colder climate

Are the hands wrapped because of hand injuries sustained in practice?

You ignored the rest in my post about bad techniques and not proper training from an early age. I don't know about Bangladesh, but India and SriLanka got decent primary cricket culture which is missing in Pakistan.

De Kock dropped on his first ball by Wahab. Pakistan's poor fielding in this tournament continuing.

A tough chance dropped by Shadab at point, but Wahab should have taken that easy catch earlier in the innings when Hafeez was bowling.

Pakistan’s poor fielding in the history of Pakistan continuing. Always been a bad fielding side i guess.

I associate fielding with the fitness levels of the squad. And whats with the bandages and tapes. Is the fielding coach killing the guys in fielding practice?

Tapes are used so when the ball hits your hand it doesn't hurt.

Poor effort by Amir - should have taken that catch of van der Dussen in the SA game

Mohammad Amir's drop off Miller - tough chance - infact had it his hands then dropped when he hit the ground

Awful fielding by Pakistan once again.

If I could count they have dropped five catches. Could cost us?

Whats happening here!

Sarf drops a hard one off Wahab for van der Dussen

Then Amir drops an easy one off Miller

Mickey Arthur needs to be fired for conning the nation for the so called fitness crusade he promised

One of the worst fielding side in this tournament...they could have sealed the match by now

The thread should be renamed to lack of fielding because Pakistan is not doing any almost the quality of local Sunday league.

Fielding has been atrocious ever since Grant Bradburn replaced Steve Rixon

is this what Mickey has done, made us unfit and the worst fielding side in the world!

Fielding seems to get worse and most players struggling to move around field. They need to lay off the fast food

Pakistani fielding is a great comedy show. I was literally laughing on the floor watching today’s match. You guys need to seriously invest in youth cricket and infrastructure to improve your fielding. Senior team coaches cant change the bad habits you pick up on your junior days.

It's getting from bad to worse. 6-7 catches dropped plus lousy fielding helping opponents run 2 and 3 easily against a demoralized South African. They have not caught anything in slips all series. Whoever this fielding coach Bradburn is needs to be booted out mid series no need of him as this team is dropping everything.

The worst fielder in the team is Shaheen. Surprising considering he is one of the youngest. He should be dropped (pun intended) on this basis alone.

He's an embarrassment in the field, really is. Can't catch, can't do ground-fielding either.

I just hope the dropped catches today don't come back and haunt Pakistan when it comes to NRR.

absolutely dire, beyond logic. cant even explain it.

can fairly imagine either of kane or taylor being dropped early against nz, and they will put pak to the sword.

I want to know who the fielding coach is, seems like some random joe off the street has been appointed. Atrocious performance.

Grant Bradburn
Pakistan's fielding coach since Sept. 2018 [after Rixon exit]
Off spinner, played for New Zealand making debut against Pakistan in 1990.
Was coach of Scotland cricket team.

Can someone him ask why every Pak player hands are bandaged? They are dropping sitters and easy catches. while there hands look bruised

They were doing fine under Rixon's danda approach. They need a hard taskmaster.

Also needs to be desire to improve from within. Fielding just isn’t about technique. It’s about commitment and hard work.
