How can a bowler who is playing his first match in a series be in this condition?

The man bowled beautifully and took two wickets. Fast forward 25 overs, with England having been on the ropes, they recovered and got on top effortlessly with Irfan unable to even bowl.

How can this state of affairs be sustainable? Even Sohail Khan for all his huffing and puffing bowled many overs and bowled well. Irfan cannot bat, cannot field and if he can't bowl more than 5 overs, really shouldn't be playing in a professional cricket team.

Humiliation. Shows how low Pakistani fitness standards are. Hopefully he has played his last game. He has no place in ODI or T20

why they side line amir after such a good performance. and select GUL and IRFAN.
Clearly two groups in team.

I think Amir is rested as series is lost and not sidelined. He has played non-stop cricket this entire series so rested

He should not play for Pakistan again. He is too old and unfit.

Our bowling stocks are so bad, even worse than our batting

He is 34 +officially (may be 36 actually).... to bowl at his pace in his age is an achievement in itself...
If he is playing than he must only bowl short spells (3 overs) and rest in between spells.

What fitness. are the selectors blind picking up Irfan who was not even playing any form of cricket back home. Shows you where it is wrong.

Irfan even in his short spell showed he is the same bowler he used to be. back to back red zone landing warnings. this is not something new with Irfan. It has been his issue in the past as well. I can't believe they pick these players blindly without looking at improvements. I mean these are same issues he was dropped and he has no improvements yet he is recalled.

With his height he should be bowling 170kph, he's a trundler

and he was not even playing any cricket. The selectors who picked him should be applauded for their job. It is so easy money for them. I mean they don't have to work any hard. just pick random players out of blue without analyzing their fitness, form .etc

When you look for short term solutions this is what you get.

The problem is the Pakistani team management and select is so useless that they will pick him on the basis of his 2 wickets rather than dropping him for being embarrassingly unfit for modern International cricket.

not played since June according to Nasser Hussain and he gets to play an Int. game straight away. voww

tonight I did feel sorry for Azhar. I mean he is given rubbish squad.

He is not fit enough to bowl.

Nasser is severely criticizing Pakistan's cricketing structure.

Forget Irfan for a minute. This speaks more about the selection committee. Isn't being fit not the first prerequisite for selection? This mistake alone should get the whole selection committee terminated! Such laziness and lethargy has been endemic at the PCB.

Stop this bashing of Irfan. Guy has hardly played any cricket for the past 6 months and suddenly gets called into playing out the blue unexpected middle of a series. He had fitness issues previously but PCB know that and if he ain't played no cricket for a long time how can you expect him to be in shape and ready to go.
Again Inzamam and PCB humiliate Pakistan more.

they didn't do any homework. they should have known he hasn't played any cricket for months. awful and incompetent selection committee no doubt.

I don't blame Irfan.

He's a tall guy who is aging and its not easy for him to maintain fitness. This shouldn't be a surprise and its happened in the past.

The fact selectors would even pick him in the first place is the real issue. You take a guy who has poor fitness issues and send him during the ODI series.

So now he had to contend with height + age + jet lag + new conditions. What an idiotic selection as everyone has already said.

This is expected from Irfan. The clueless lot at PCB haven't managed him well from the start. He's 35 now, no one should be surprised.

PCB have no shame anyway, but I'm sure Micky will make sure this doesn't happen again.

Could be the end of Irfan.

Lol! You say it like it's so easy. No bowler has ever managed to bowl anywhere near that. Height has nothing to do with pace. It's more to do with your fitness and body shape.

Mohammad Irfan is a Pro since 2010. Especially 2012.

He was rightly rested by Selectors.

He has 4 months to flatten his tummy, lose 10 kg weight, put Lean Muscle Mass and especially strengthen his calves, thighs and back.

But He came back with inferior fitness levels.

I was hoping him to bowl 5 to 10 kph fastest than last time but no he did not.

Similarly getting of the wicket requires peak fitness and agility plus he knows He has long strides so he shpuld have set his runup such than when he delivers the ball his entire foot is behind popping crease. Knowing he has had issues of running on the pitch he did not adjust his runup and delivery stride during off time neither improved his fitness.

# Dissapointing

For his height he is quite slow, a foot bowling at the same pace as khaled mahmud

Irfan still has a role to play. He was genuinely threatening.

Make sure he is fit for Australia. He bowled well there last time.

Who has to make Sure ?

He is a Pro from 7 years now.

He was given much needed Rest of 4 months to comeback stronger, fitter & fresh with revival of Pace but He came back in same shape.

He should be held accountable.

Should 7'1 pacer be carrying a Tummy ?

Did he Strengthen his Legs off Season ? Especially Calves & Thighs, Hamstrings ?

When Other teams give rest to players they come back like charged Up batteries and He ? Despite playing two 50 overs Club games and 1 domestic T20 game looked as if he came straight from his Bed.

Had he been Fit we would have Won the last match.

To be honest it is not his fault and I don't it's mostly to do with the fitness of Pakistani players.

I have a friend who is 6.11" and he constantly pulls his hamstring when playing any sports. It's merely because of his size. He is one of the most fittest guys I know and runs nearly as fast as Bolt!!

And yes....he does his stretches before hand.

Maybe he just needs to strengthen his hamstrings :haris

Honestly, I would rather have Junaid Khan than irfan.

Atleast Junaid can be useful with the new ball during the first few overs and has much better levels of fitness.

How is an injury-prone Mohammad Irfan still bowling at 36?

With the spate of injuries Irfan has been through, and his brittle body, I am very surprised to see a 36(looks a lot older than that) year old Irfan still beating batsmen for pace and bowling thunderbolts. Of course, I know his fielding is still the same. But anyone, that’s followed the CPL will be pleasantly surprised to see Irfan jumping around and bowing fierce deliveries.
