"Pakistan & India players should demand a lot of money": Chris Gayles take on the Indo-Pak game

Talking about the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India later this year, Chris Gayle has picked India, England, Pakistan and New Zealand as the four semi-finalists. On the much awaited Indo-Pak clash in Ahmedabad on October 15, Gayle has a rather different take. "Whenever those teams play, especially in a World Cup, the revenues they generate is humongous. One game can take care of the entire ICC event. Pakistan and India players should demand a lot of money for those games because those games are high paid games TV wise," Gayle told PTI.

"I don't control the board or the ICC. If I was in their position I would want a lot more," he said (laughing).

He also sees his long time RCB teammate Virat Kohli to dominate the World Cup at home. "Tough times don't last long tough players last longer. Virat is tough mentally as well physically. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't go to this World Cup and dominate. As players, we always go through phases where things seem a bit dull and you need positive energy around to uplift yourself. Once we get back in the groove, we know how dangerous we can be.

"I know India have not won an ICC trophy in a long time and same is the case with us (West Indies). We last won in 2016. Pressure will be on India as they play at home as favourites," Gayle reckoned.

How can they exactly demand more money for a single game?

They are contracted to their respective Boards and don't get paid for individual matches.

These West Indian cricketers seem obsessed with money.

Gayle is never been known for being eloquent with his words but he is trying to highlight how much leverage players hold in such negotiations and how they are not exercising it to their best ability. Cricket is still very behind in terms of players standing up for their rights and earning what they are truly deserve. Once players learn how much power they posses and these T20 leagues are expediting that process, but eventually boards will be forced to share a much bigger piece of the pie.

He's not obsessed with money, he is talking about wanting to maximize your earnings using the skills you have. I do not know a single human on this earth that doesn't think way.

Money money and money.

Life is all about money for Gayle. Demand more money? You’re playing for the pride and your country. Money is very important to keep your life running but playing for your country is a honor and money should be the second option. You have T20 leagues to make and demand more money.

Dude get out of money dilemma. Country comes first I think and money comes along with it but without any greed.

This guy has always preferred money over everything else. Of course cricketers would want to be paid handsomely. But his suggestion here is outright ridiculous.

How can players demand more money than what their match fees already are just for playing a high profile match? Any player making such a demand would probably be made an example out of by his board.

Imagine a system where each game's fees for players was determined by what is earned on that game.

If that was the case, Pakistan players would be poor all year and then wait for an ICC event (whenever that happens) with a game vs India to earn anything.

So basically Gayles proposal would end up hurting players.

Fans who keep downplaying India vs Pakistan rivalry won't like this statement from Chris Gayle. :inti

If the boards pick up on this idea we might see Mohammad Amir come out of retirement

who needs Amir when you have Rizwan flying off the next day after an International match to pick up $150 to play a local T20 tournament?

Pakistanis have to play for pride. And that's been their pitfall; the Roy Keane syndrome; " Oh look at their fancy facilities, why can't we have it?!"

Haha what a guy. How can we ever win anything with him in the team?
