ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India will conduct a joint military exercise in August this year for the first time since 1947.

These exercises are part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Peace Mission 2018. Russia, China, India and Pakistan will take part in the exercise, with the mission’s primary focus being counter-terrorism operations.

but but but, pakistan is "atankwadi state" , :sree
i think thats what Indian govt told thre people..

Pakistan is what some refer to a "jelly" state. By nature and design, always quivering and shaking, threatening to fall apart, but cohesive enough to muddle along.

And its not the state or its people that are atankwadi, its that its military calls the shots, and they have chosen to play with atankwadis.

So India...

PM hold hands with Pak PM like a bride and groom smiling down the isle.

Both nations continue to trade.

Indian army officials sit and watch Pak military parade(first time ever).

Joint miliatry excercises to take place.

But they wont play a game of cricket? ConfusedIndia.com :sachin

SCO military exercise is not exercise with "Pakistan". Its a multi nation military exercise.

The OPs habit of saying half truths is well known.

The arch-rivals will conduct this military drill as part of a larger multi-national military exercise in the Ural Mountains of Russia.

Its a multi national military exercise.

Trade rules are guided by WTO.

Indian Army officials watched the parade?

No its not confusedindia.com rather its consistentindia.com

We are following our cricket template. We can play in multi nation tournament against Pakistan or multi nation joint miltiary exercise but will not take part in a bilateral cricket series or joint miltiary exercise.

If it's an enemy state then India can refuse.

Rules are broken or sanctions are applied under these guildlines regularly by some nations.

Yes they watched the Pakistan day military parade.

Haha good observation. Let's see each others military skills and fielding skills but only if others are involved too.

1. Why ruin relations with a ally like Russia by not participating in the exercise held in Russia with Russia as participant?

2. Why break rules and give Pakistan a chance to approach the WTO? The trade is very small in numbers.

3. Indian Military officers watched Pakistan day parade? You mean the defence attache and diplomats?

Because you may have forgotten, Pakistan sends people to kill your citizens but if rules and keeping an ally happy is more important than the lives of your people, your choice.

Why dont you google and find out who went to watch and why?

Pakistan does that thats why there are no bilateral engagements but certainly India wont sacrifice multilateral platforms for Pakistan.

The defence attache and the diplomats attended on personal invite of Pak Army Chief. I wonder if he will also invite the cricket team?

I appreciate your honesty, others would for the sake of their citizens.

Why would the PAC invite the cricket team? I dont understand.

1. Which country sacrifices relations with a ally to spite a enemy?

2.PAC personally invited the Indians. First time.

US has done it recently against Russia over Syria. Not an ally nation but a highly important one in terms of global relations. Many more examples but fine, India has it's own policies.

Sure, Indians came.

The policy regarding cricket is confusing for everyone apart from Indians when they are happy to engage in many other ways.

India not playing with Pakistan shows their state's enmity towards Pakistan. It has nothing to do with any principle. This only helps Pakistan and they can't stand that.

Other than talks on Kashmir and playing cricket , India is ready to engage with Pakistan commercially. It wants trade with suits them, it needs transit trade etc.

Which Transit trade is occuring?

Will Pakistan not take India to WTO if India stops trade?

Russia and US are always rivals and never allies. India and Russia are age old allies.

They engage only on multilateral platforms or where the law demands as such.

India wants transit for Aghanistan-India trade and beyond. Not happening currently.

The second question is only based on distant imagination.
You need to notice that India actually wants to enhance trade and not merely keep it open. Because if it happens it is going to be huge surplus in their favor.

All is done to keep the sheeple nationalists voters happy.

1. India has long left that route and now goes via Iran and NSTC.

2. India actually has not encouraged trade even though the balance is in Indias favour and its not huge considering Indias total trade value globally. India is bound by the WTO rules to allow trade. India breaks that rule Pakistan will take India to WTO. If india doesnot abide by WTO rules India wont be able to drag another country if that country breaks rule againist India.

I am aware of the geo poltical situations around the world.

If you think it's not strange India wont play Pak in cricket due to believing Pakistan is behind killing it's cizitens and continues to do so but are happy to do the other things I mentioned, nobody can persuade you otherwise.

Back on topic, India and Pak would be wise to settle their differences and join the SCO together.

This whole line of argument on "consistency" is basically a straw man. Nowhere has India ever said they'd be consistent just for the sake of being consistent. India, like every other country, is trying to optimize the outcomes in its favor. And why wouldn't they? And who doesn't?

Your constant crying that you're playing XXXX sport, but not cricket doesn't mean a thing. India will do what it wants to do, and doesn't have to explain anything to anyone. It can allow rice export today, and ban it tomorrow. It can allow visas to artists today and deny it tomorrow. All these are tactical steps, and hopefully designed to drive to certain outcomes at any given point in time (and can change over time).

Managing international relations, especially with an enemy state like Pakistan, is a complex thing. What Pakistani posters here are looking to do is dramatically oversimplify it. But that's not how it works.

Crying? lol. I find it hillarious . I didn't even think of consistancy but find it laughable a nation cries and whines about Pakistan killing it's people in the past , present and will do in the future so wont play a game of cricket but is happy to have it's military sit and watch Pakistani missiles driving by which were designed for India.

I know it's embarrasing for Indians to deal with but chill with the excuses, you're only making it more funny. :)

You seem particularly proud of Indian defense attache getting to see your Chinese-made firecrackers. If that's what pleases you, be it. What does that have anything to do with anything else?

My overarching point was India can do whatever it wants without having to justify its actions to anyone. And that stands. Everything else irrelevant.

I dont actually give a damn if Indians came to watch or not.

Sure but then dont try to justify not playing cricket when you interact in a much more serious level regularly.

You do care because you've mentioned it multiple times across multiple threads. Literally no one else cares about it, but you clearly do. Else why bring it up?

To re-iterate: India doesn't need to justify anything. It can engage seriously on one topic and not engage at all on something else. It all depends on the merit of individual cases.

A very childish approach and Thankfully not the way other civilized nations behave - if they did, we would be living in a jungle.

1. Via Iran is way too long and expensive. India is forced to rely on that route. So, basically it wanted but could not get it and thus had to leave it.

2. The Indian High Commissioner was talking about increasing trade only some days back. The trade growth between countries stagnated around 2012-13 because Pakistan wanted progress on bigger issues.
Wanting trade with India when India does not allow it will make a Pakistani government look very bad domestically. So, i don't believe that Pakistan would take India to WTO for this.

This is the indian dream. Unfortunately for them, its far away from the reality and their government keeps on making a fool out of them while they drink the saffron kool aid.
