"Pakistan keep going back to Hafeez & Malik. Look at the future, go with youth" : Nasser Hussain

We can persist with Hafeez if he can somehow find form as he can play the modern ODI brand of cricket, whereas Malik needs to be sidelined for the remainder of the WC.

Connections - I scratch your back and you scratch mine.

I recall someone telling me that one particular player has played Pakistan quite a few times due to family connections in the Pakistan army.

Afridi is highly connected in the Pakistan Army

Persist with hafeez? Till 2023 world cup? The guys been a failure for 15 years!

Hafeez can play the rest of this World Cup, but needs to be discarded immediately after the tournament. He's almost 40 now, not only will age catch up to him, he needs to step aside for younger players.

Even Hussain, who's a neutral can see what a handicap this is to Pakistan cricket. But alas, the selectors have no shame. They must also be deluded if they think we can compete against the best with a couple of mediocre uncles hogging the spots.

A minimum SR requirement of 100-120 needs to be set for Modern ODI batting and bowlers need to be trained on modern death over bowling.

There's a lack of spin options and I do not see Hafeez continuing after the world cup, it's not as if he's lost form he just isn't consistent right now. I would still back him to be batting in the lower order.

Yeah that's what I'm saying, he should play the whole tournament but after the world cup he should be booted out.

The culture is the problem.

Seniority rules and some of these senior players have a lot of backing outisde of cricket.

Therefore the coach, captain and selectors are under pressure to pick them.

Terrible state of affairs.

Spot on!

I remember Javed Miadad saying to Afridi that I'm your senior, as if to say you don't have a right to say anything to me because I'm your senior no matter what rubbish I blurt out

We need to make changes to our odi team after the world cup. Sarfaraz, Hafeez, Wahab and Imad need to concentrate on T20s only. Fakhar would be my choice for odi captain, My team for next series:

1. Fakhar Zaman (c)
2. Abid Ali
3. Babar Azam
4. Rizwan
5. Hussain Talat
6. Khushdil Shah
7. Aamer Yamin
8. Shadab Khan
9. Amir
10. Hasnain
11. Haris Rauf

12. Saud Shakeel
13. Umar Khan
14. Shaheen Afridi
15. Shan Masood

i like you put Aamer Yamin in there with Khushdil shah.. both , i think, are great prospects... not too excited abt Hussain Talat and Rizwan playing together.. too 1 dimensional players and missing Harris Sohail? and captaincy to Fakhar? nah replace Hussain and Rizwan with likes of Umair Massod/Umar Siddiq for keeper and Hussain Talat for some1 like Umar Amin or even Ifthikhar Ahmad (he needs to be tested on international level and he is a canny spinner) and need to bring in Naseem Shah in the fold as well... also need another leggie (NO Yasir Shah)

Mohammad Hafeez has been terrible in the World Cup.

Terrible with bat, ball and in the field.

About time Pakistan moved on from him in ODIs.

Nasser is probably disappointed along with Graeme Smith at not seeing PK in the SF’s.

They have a soft spot for Pakistan cricket.

Its a shame that Nasser can see that but our selectors dont. I am hoping against hope that better sense prevails and both Malik & Hafeez are never considered for selection again in any format.

He’s been terrible all his career, seriously speaking - even if you give him the benefit of doubt within 1 year of his career we all knew this guy was never going to make it at this level and was going to be an ordinary batsman averaging no more than 35 at any level in this era where batsmen averaging 50 is equivalent to them averaging 40 in the 80s/90s era. So question arises WHO decides that this guy should play for Pakistan for the next 15 years and counting, Is he that good that he carries on playing till the day he decides he’s played enough and wants to spend time doing other hobbies?

My passion for Pakistan cricket has halved primarily based on how such mediocre players ended up having more secure positions in the team then even some of the legends I grew up watching.

Just think how many potential Babar Azam’s, Haris Sohail’s and Fawad Alam’s have been wasted at the expense of this failed batsman.

why is pp so obsessesed with Talat, he is a nothing player and that has been proven with his magnificent 2(14) and one digit scores against South Africa.

Hafeez was excellent against England. I know he was dropped but that was still a great innings, but other than that he has given his wicket away too many times after getting a start. He's too selfless to retire, I hope he's dropped for the next series. We can keep him in T20's

He should retire from all formats. There are plenty of younger guys who should be given a chance.

Hafeez and Malik are 20 averaging batsmen in old money. I wonder how many players with such records have played for almost 20 years?

Anyone disagree ? I’m genuinely curious what others think, am I being unfair and overly harsh.

Picking Hager’s makes zero sense considering he can’t ball , does not make it into the side just purely on batting

100% spot on with your comments. Hafeez has played international cricket for 17 years and his performances have been mediocre overall. Yet he keeps getting picked.

Ive called him the symbol of medocrity numerous times and thats what he really is.

Can't really criticise the uncles as they never picked themselves. Clown Misbah needs to go.

I wonder if this is a good-bye series for them. To be able to play at home one final time.

Hafeez has been a decent lower order t20 batsmen and has had an important role in our t20 successes. He was pretty ordinary in test and Odis but I do believe his quick 30s and 40s have been the missing link in lower order against Sri Lanka and Australia

Look there's no doubt he has had a mediocre career and I believe the reason for that is he was never too technically sound and wasted himself playing the role he did for all those year. However, in the last couple of years since he started coming down the order and changed his approach to being an aggressive quick scoring batsmen has benefited the Pakistan team. I think if he can continue to score those quick runs for Pakistan both against pace and spinners down the order Pakistan team will do really well. I don't believe Imad Wasim has reached the level that Hafeez is at yet when it comes to hitting the boundaries and taking all kinds of difficult bowlers to the cleaners.

I am dumbfounded however at Malik's selection. Can someone tell me what value has he added? I fail to see it.

Hafeez has been in dreadful touch ever since the WC in all the the T20 Competitions he has played.

I genuinely thought that Misbah was finally phasing out this great duo, but he could could not get the job done.

I'm sure there are plenty of other potentials who can play that role or be taught to play that role. Why are persisting with someone whose career is longer than a couple of pHD's?

Because we haven't seen any great lower order batsmen coming out of the domestic circuit for t20s.
