A new era of T20 cricket under a new regime begins in Pakistan. Really looking forward to this tournament and keeping a close eye on how things unfold considering the new management and selection committee. The doors will now hopefully be open for every deserving player in Pakistan cricket to show what they are capable of and make strides towards the national side. World Cup 2024 is the goal, and a new hope under Shaheen glimmers, as long as the selection of the national side is honest in accordance to batting positions and deserving bowling options

Some questions that I am seeking answers too in this tournament…

1. Will Amir and Imad play? A lot of talk sitting outside…the ship may have sailed for them for One Day cricket but both are capable to represent Pakistan in the shortest format.

Less talk, get your regional gears on and put your money where your mouth is!

2. Will we see a re-invented Babar Azam? At number 3 perhaps? He’s seen very closely how the big boys of white ball cricket play when batting in the powerplay (Rohit, Warner, Marsh, Head, DeQock, Ravindra etc).

Will we finally see the unshackled, unrestrained Babar Azam?

3. All eyes on Abrar Ahmed. Everyone wanted him to play in the squad, well here is your chance to show why everyone was crying for you to be a part of the XI instead of sitting on the bench. Will he prove the management wrong by displaying white ball skills that we have been yearning for since Ajmal was banned?

4. All eyes on Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, what positions will they bat for their regions? Pakistan see them as middle order batsmen apparently

5. Asif Afridi, Salman Irshad, Zaman Khan…time for you boys to make your mark now. 3 excellent T20 bowling prospects.

6. Haseebullah, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Abdullah Shafique, Sahibzada Farhan, Muhammad Hurraira…Are you boys ready to step up and play like the big boys? Pakistan cricket will move forward if it’s young guns are willing to break free. All players listed are capable of playing safe runs, safe approach 50s…but can they now take it to the next step and cut loose? Saim Ayub is fearless, and everyone wants him! can we see these boys ready to be fearless as well?

7. Mohammad Harris, time to dominate, break records. 13-15 ball fifties, 30-40 ball hundreds…that’s what you can achieve if you go for it son. Go for it!

8. Arshad Iqbal, Ihsanullah, Shahnawaz Dahani…Next World Cup in South Africa, a huge opportunity for Tall pacers.

9. Sufyan Muqeem and Faisal Akram…BIG DEMAND for left are chinaman bowlers, are you ready to step up for the call?

10. Aamer Jamal…A new hope in the pace all-rounders department. Will he be allowed to express himself in both Batting and Bowling the way an All-Rounder should be allowed to express themselves?

11. Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, a big opportunity for a proper Test Class/FC level spinner to break into the Pakistan side and deliver 10 crucial overs like Maharaj delivers for South Africa..are these two ready to take up the challenge and finally provide Pakistan with a proper spinner’s option for the 2025 Champion’s trophy?

12. Mubasir Khan and Omair Bin Yousuf: Two highly exciting, talented middle order batting prospects with ability to power through. Massive opportunity for you two to now show what you are made of in this new Dawn!

13. Iftikhar Ahmed, are you gonna show that you can actually claim to be the strongest power hitter with performances you are capable of playing in T10, so why not bring that game into T20 and actually tear the roof down for once!

14. Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah…you boys have big daddy power, but you boys are batting too low to make that count. Step up, bat in the top 4 and show us that you can still offer a lot to Pakistan cricket.

Some of the few things that I am looking forward to. Maybe you guys can also highlight what you want to see in this tournament.

we have to fast track abrar to the limited side and fast track sufyan and faisal as chinaman bowlers are rare and once they have control they can take wickets on any pitch. dont rate salman arshad at all.

What kind of Tracks will we see?

The World Cup is in West Indies, slow and low tracks are probably the way to go. Not the absolute highways we have seen in the past 3-4 years at home.

For .5 I meant Abbas Afridi, the pacer from Multan Sultans…not Asif Afridi the spinner. He is decent too btw

Amir has clearly said he is not gonna play any international cricket. Imad must play as W20 is on the way

Azam khan , Harris , sharjeel , Nawaz , shadab all need to perform

You've certainly made this tournament more exciting with this post. I'm surprised that you made no mention of Sharjeel.

Good list. I would like to add Arafat Minhas in there provided he gets a chance. Pathetic that someone like him didn't feature in the Pakistan cup unless he has an injury.

I wrote him off initially (shouldn't have as he's was just a kid). Saw him play recently and I must say I was very impressed. Still has plenty to work on, but he's got the right attitude when I comes to batting and bowling. In fielding he's as good as any in Pakistan.

One for the future.

He looks a proper prospect for ODIs, a player of his profile is so much needed for Pakistan. PCB is pathetic for not giving him an opportunity in this season. Hopefully he will perform in Asia cup u19 and U19 world cup.

I agree he has far more potential then the like of shadab, qasim Akram and nawaz. He performed so well last year where it was hard to get into the 1st 11 but this season with more teams he can't find a place. It's a joke. Pathetic from rizwan to bench him the whole season in Psl too.

let's hope it's better than the 4 day stuff and 50 over tournament. The standard is awful and get worse. The fielding was comical for the most part although Peshawar took some good catches yesterday.

This new set up is awful. We have gone back to the rubbish which gave us nothing in every sense.

The players pool is rubbish in comparison to last which has reduced the quality from last year. When the likes of saad nasim are scoring a double ton tells you the standard.

Saad plays for a Sunday league team and looked very average against Taxi drivers. The standard is horrendous. Some loser blamed IK for not sorting it out in 3 years, 2 of which were under covid restrictions.

He is the big daddy opener of Pakistan cricket. Best attacker of Pace in the powerplay. No nonsense approach

People have agendas. If they were honest with their country they would never go back to this set up. It's a shame because the previous system was giving youngsters a chance along with much better quality cricket with better coaches.

This set up is ridiculous. Some of the guys from PJL looked quite promising and hardly any of them is getting a look, considering the amount of awful players which are currently playing.

We don't have quality players to have so many teams.Take Peshawar for example they were struggling with a keeper as Rizwan were away with the team. The made Amir Azmat keep if one of the games because the other keeper was that useless. Amir Azmat probably never kept in his life.

Only domestic tournament worth watching is PSL otherwise the standards are pretty low.

If all the matches of this tournament are not broadcast on a TV channel or the YT channel, then this tournament will not mean much. PCB has been poor with the broadcasting system. How can we take a domestic cup serious if it is not shown anywhere on TV or live stream.

Ideally all those things you mention would happen.

Sadly it's likely that players and teams will continue to play it safe.

Oddly enough Domestic Cricket was being covered and shown in HD quality before this new domestic setup came in.

On the discussion of this system. What is the point of half of the Pakistan not playing first class?. it is the most brainless system ever, and no other country has such a system. Hanif cup or trophy is a huge waste of money, the scores, catches and wicket aren't in the record book. What is the whole point of money being wasted by PCB. At least 2nd XI of 6 teams made sense because players could be promoted. If PCB are not okay with 6 teams, just reduce the whole 18 number to 10 teams and those 10 teams should cover the whole Pakistan. The hanif cup and trophy altogether be scrapped.

Looking forward to it. Hopefully some fresh new performers come to the fore instead of the same old.

Let's hope that this tournament separates the boys from men

Expecting big things from Sharjeel, Saim, Omair, Danish, Sarfraz, Shan, Saud, Mir Hamza, Dahani and Abrar

Expecting a flop show from Rizwan, Babar, Shadab and Iftikhar

Well i was hoping the same especially when the world cup is next year but just realised all test squad wont be playing.

I am sure this will be broadcasted on YT it always does

I think Babar is playing the first few games

So most of the Test squad should be playing the initial games

The schedule of the National T20 Cup is not good because major players are heading to Australia to play the Test series. So, what will people enjoy at the stadium?

Is that scheduling for real? So teams in the top group are playing 4 matches in 5 days?

PSL isn't starting next week so can anyone explain why the schedule is so incredibly crammed and to basically complete this tourney in a matter of 7-10 days?

Everything about this domestic has been the absolute worst we've seen since the system revamp. Too many awful teams, awful pitches, awful squads & selections, lack of young & exciting talent, awful broadcast & marketing of the domestic season at all. I wonder why Pakistan struggle to produce great players... its because of mediocrity like this.

Let's hope we start to see some young talent appear because the QA trophy was absolutely awful. The National Cup one day Cup was also terrible with the fielding standards that would embarrass club cricketers.

This is the first edition of the tournament played since the PCB 2014 Constitution was reinstated. The previous edition of National T20, which featured six sides, was won by Sindh who clinched their maiden title after defeating defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by eight wickets. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost out on securing a hat-trick of titles after winning both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 editions.

I don't know when we will actually have a coordinated system below where we assign young captains in our domestic cricket on the basis on grooming them for the future.

Also, what's Haris Rauf doing here as Islamabad's captain? Doesn't he need a rest/break from Cricket?

He seems to be needing a rest only from Test Cricket.

Harris Rauf captain of Islamabad over Imad Wasim

How does that work?

If they don't pick him He will end up playing in Australia t20 domestic tournament.

Surprised to see Asad Shafiq as Captain for Karachi Whites and Umar Amin as Captain for Rawalpindi

Look at Lahore blues for example, it should be Qasim Akram being groomed into captaincy, a player with plenty of future potential and has been one of their best players too but yet, its Hussain Talat, a player who is extremely mediocre in T20's and has no international future as a player being made captain.

And then when those young players come up to the international side and Pakistan team needs leadership & captains, there is no experience amongst them.

Asad Shafiq as Karachi's captain - says all you need to know about our domestic setup. Even domestically, there should be better players who can play T20's. Same for Yasir Shah.

Are those PJL players like Arafat Minhas even in the squads?

Is it me or Multan have the best squad?

T20 batsmen:

Sharjeel Khan
Sohaib Maqsood
Zeeshan Ashraf

Good keeper in Haseebullah

Decent spinners: Faisal Akram and Ali Majid (if that’s that right arm flat leg spinner)?

Lahore whites batting line up not too baD

Ahmad Shahzad
Tayyab Tahir
Umar Akmal
Muhammad Akhlaq

Good batsmen for this level

It was reported Babar was supposed to play some games? Who would he represent?

Ahmed Shehzad
Tayyab Tahir
Saad Nasim
Muhammad Akhlaq

Ahmed Shehzad
Tayyab Tahir
Saad Nasim
Muhammad Akhlaq
Umar Akmal
Ahmed Bashir
Muneeb Wazif
Amir Khan

Junaid Ali
Umaid Asif
Kashif Bhatti
Salman Irshad
Hunain Shah

I think they could have made the squads alot more fairer than what it actually is.

OMG the Arsal Sheikh is back!!!
Don't know about Arsal but his brother Shayan Sheikh is actually quite a good spinner and has absolutely dominated in the grade II season and can actually walk in to most FC teams. Or it could be the case of grade II standard being extremely poor and anybody who can roll their arm over ends up getting bucket loads of wickets , but again not all the spinners has dominated in the grade II season except Shayan.

Shayan being the 3rd highest wicket taker this season with 37 wickets in 13 innings at 17.48 a piece.

Arish Ali Khan is definitely one for the future but is not getting exposure in FC teams , Massive turner of the ball with good control.

National T20 Cup 2023:

Toss update:

Lahore Whites won the toss and decided to field first against Larkana at NBP Sports Complex, Karachi

Karachi Whites won the toss and decided to field first against Islamabad at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi

Multan won the toss and decided to field first against Sialkot at HPC Oval Ground, Karachi

Islamabad has set a target of 120 for Karachi whites to chase in their allotted 20 overs.
Karachi whites have scored 4 runs for the loss of 1 wicket after 1.3 overs till now.

Larkana Region has scored 137/8 against Lahore Whites.
Lahore whites have begun the chase just now with Ahmed Shehzad and Muhammad Akhlaq on the crease for them.

Amir the whinge should be playing this.

Where is he?
For what ? He will only play franchise cricket . He clearly stated he won’t be playing any international cricket . So doesn’t make sense for him to play this

Lahore Whites are cruising along against the Larkana region while chasing 138.
The score is 80/0 after 8 overs.

Karachi Whites are 92/3 against Islamabad Region after 13 overs.

Some seriously poor scores in the games so far. Is it the pitches or just a complete scarcity of attacking batsmen in the country? Even the ones scoring 50s have had terrible strike rates.

Muhammad Akhlaq is an underrated player

Love his approach and batting technique.
