Ofcourse no one expects them to chase this down but a 300-350 will be a good effort.Need younis and asad to spend time in the middle it will be important fir future tests.I am still hopeful of a 1-1 draw.

I think it's too little too late. The demise of Sami/Shafiq/YK/Misbah and to a lesser degree, Azhar after the England tour has been inevitable.

Teams can only play so many games at home before they're found out, not only physically, talent-wise but mentally too.

The one thing I've always found with Pakistan is their inferiority complex when they play Australia. It's like the circle of life really :))

Honestly I've never seen Pakistan confidently play a test in Australia.

It seems they still think they are playing the great 2000s side

It's like folks are competing to put out one pessimistic take after the other. Pakistan showed a lot of character most of today. I know teams with bigger superstars that would have folded leak a cheap suit by now

What was optimistic about today?

That we played 30 overs for 70 runs and lost 2 wickets only?

Yes compared to 97-8 it looks optimistic, but in reality 70-0 would have been Pakistan's day to an extent. 70-2 just means that clouds tomorrow and rain will make our batsmen have to bat even harder to reach 200-300 runs.

Deep down, I am sure you are anticipating Pakistan is well placed to chase 490 runs.

But let's be realistic.

If we can get at least to 300 it would give me confidence heading into the MCG and SCG Tests that our batsmen are adapting to the conditions.

You know things are bad when losing 2 wickets in a session is considered to be a display of character and mental strength.

Don't know what kind of performance was expected from Pak team by fans as team is touring Aus after gap of 6 years. With players no experience of Aus conditions and their board agree to day/night test match first up.
I think only 3 players have played a test in Aus before.

I don't anticipate a win. But considering the amount of over the top drivel was used to describe Pakistan's performance yesterday, I would think the narrative is that Pakistan had a far better day today..

Mentally they're as fragile as Arsenal as the fag-end of a Premier league season. It happens too often to ignore it, yet nothing is done :|

Don't think it was OTT at all tbh. They got rightly slaughtered for an inept display of fragility and defensive cricket. Amir/Sarfraz showed more fight today than any of the players have done in the last month.

I take one look at the thread and the usual subjects, and it seems like drivel to me.

Yeah, I know what you mean :|

You would think that the posters here think there is a Pulitzer to be won in wallowing in self pity. I call the the John Steinbeck syndrome. Everyone wants to write a weepy tome about The Great Depression but there can only be one 'Grapes of Wrath'

To some Cricket is everything, and you can see that in their posts. They still live by the Glory days of Imran Khan, Miandad, Wasim, Waqar etc. So anything short of that is depressing or nigh-on the end of the World as we know it.

All of those guys under achieved and not just vs Australia. Too much irrational negativity here for my liking. I guess everyone has their own coping mechanism

If they have any pride left, they should be able to score at least 300. They are not winning or even drawing this test. The best they can do is reduce the margin of loss.

We need two big partnerships, play couple of sessions without loosing wickets, the match to 2nd session of last day, that's what will take us to the next match. We need to bat 130+ overs to show ourselves that we can bat... 2 hundreds will gives us lot of confidence for next two matches... Beauty of test cricket is that, we can still gain a lot even with a loss...

Yeah spot on, use this a learning curve.

Azhar is batting well out there, important for YK to get into form along with Misbah and Asad.

What's the news on the rain at this point?

Is anyone staying up for this?

I might just watch the morning session and then make a decision.
