Pakistan a vicious cycle of selecting players who are on the verge of retirement age without having mentored any replacements or succession plans. Fawad and azhar are at an age where their reflexes can be lost in a matter of months.

In the past Misbah and Younis occupied no 4 and no 5 batting positions, but there were no replacements groomed or mentored for those positions, heck even Babar Azam had to learn on his own and was almost dropped if not for Mickey Arthur, so why make the same mistake again??

Azhar needs to move up to open and a few guys who can take over the no 3 position, and no 5 and 6 need to identified and stuck with. That way they can learn from the likes of Azhar and Fawad whilst they are still in the team. :ifti

The Zimbabwe series should be used precisely for this.

Azhar and Babar should open, with Saud and Kamran slotting in at 3 and 5. Let these boys get a kick start to their careers in relatively easier conditions whilst surrounded by Reliable batsmen before and after them.

I'm surprised why did not get any replies.

we have people that we can bring into our test team (Abdullah, Haider, Saud), we just lack the courage to give them the chance, Because the chances to score easy runs are always given to the seniors that are already in the team and after that that easy opportunity must be given to players that were dropped few years ago and now the media from their city (mostly one city) constantly beats the drum to undo that Ziyadti.

Salahuddin, Saud and Ghulam are the names that should be taking over.

Which Haider? He can’t even play T10 and you want him to play in Test team.

Precisely. Abdullah, Haider, Rohail, etc. are all exceptional natural talents, but slightly undercooked. Need to hone their games in FC and Shaheens/Pak A before being offered up a chance into the Test XI.

Particularly looking forward to seeing Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam. Both seem to have good techniques and solid temperament. And the former also seems to be good against spin, which is crucial for PCT at the moment.

Osman Salahuddin
Kamran Ghulam
Saud Shakeel

... Here are the answers. If they fail, then try next best ones on basis of deep stats.

Btw I have a feeling Ahzar Ali and Fawad are not going anywhere for 2 more years atleast

Seemingly normal sports teams things like planning and a long-term vision don't apply to a team like Pakistan.

When we try to test our bench strength we get hammered 5-0 by Australia. When we try to look for guys who can replace two of our recently retired test stalwarts we go through an endless process of trial and error; all while completely ignoring the guy with the best FC stats in the country.

That's Pakistan for you.

As far as test cricket is concerned i don't think Pak need to worry about their middle order for at least 3 years. Our test setup is probably the strongest out of the 3 formats.

As i mentioned earlier even though its a settled side we wont be winning test series against windies and will get hammered in 2020s

Kamran ghullam at 3
Babar Azam at 4
Saud shakeel at 5

Azhar ali should open

Yes as if the bradmans and tendulkars are going to retire, they should start planning. Have they done this previously anytime.

Well Saud Shakeel will come in for Fawad Alam.

Usman Salahuddin game is most like Azhar's but Kamran Ghulam and Ali Agha Salman offer more attacking prowess.

3. Usman Salahuddin
4. Babar Azam
5. Saud Shakeel

Kamran Ghulam and Agha Ali Salman who could do with one more runs filled season in domestic cricket.

So Azhar and Fawad are still there, struggling and still no replacements for them.

A few posters called for the inclusion of players such as Abdullah shafique and look at the difference he has made in the team already.

Yes we have been preparing by not testing new faces against zim ban and WI. With the silly excuse that test specialists like Azhar and fawad hardly play any cricket so can’t keep them out

No need to plan at all, the era after these two go would be much better..

Actually would be a better transition waiting to happen..

Plan? Prepare? They should just remove them and breath a sigh of relief.

This series should be the end of both Fawad and Azhar (Fawad particularly).
Agree.Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel can replace them.Pakistan needs to find a genuine all rounder preferably a fast bowler who can bat at number 6.

Niether should have been picked for this series. was ideal time to blood shakeel and ghulam. selectors need to learn from mistakes grow some balls and drop them now.

Fawad definitely needs to be dropped alongside Sajid,Nuaman,Hassan Ali

Azhar ali has been ok but he should only open.
